  1. they probably picked up from the movies..... there are a some english gems here and there. I'll try to find the pics this evenign
  2. and a warning somewhere in the mountains. what I don't get is that there aren't that many foreigners here, and most not even english, and yet this warning is in English......
  3. da, she is certainly looking sweet. Now to learn some real riding skills and do her justice.
  4. the cops are fun here. bribery is so rife. you see them on the side of the road pulling all the larny cars over. The basically demand money for nothing. if they spot a foreigner off you go and you gotta haggle with them.. apparently the trick is to ask for a receipt... fortunately I've not got a car so thus far it's not a problem. but it is entertaining listening to the folk from the ex-pat club
  5. Well, mayhap this becomes a weekly feature. Unfortunately I copied the wrong photos on my memory stick, so all I have right now is pics of a local hyena and some cops (love the hats)
  6. 1395 US for the frame.....and $400 for "customs brokers". that includes all charges\bribes\penalties, etc..... I asked for the original documentation and they said.... No. just like that. apparently they must keep the docs..... sometimes it's just easier to shake your head and walk away
  7. Unfortunately, I only rode from the shop to home, but it certainly felt good doing that. Still need to play with the shock setup and so on. If I can I will try to go for a ride tomorrow morning, maybe see if there some extra interesting bits I can do. There's a nice big hill round the corner, with a bit of a track going back into the city.
  8. Da, thanks. them cranks be middleburn. I thought yet another set of xtr cranks wouldn't differentiate, and the middleburns look nice. As to weight, I have no idea, but not too much. and seeing as I'm not the lightest person around, her weight is far less relevant than mine.
  9. Well. Finally it has been built. I'm looking forward to playing with her some...
  10. buddy. save your money and buy a titus. you'll never want or need another. it is that good. just about any other bike is going to be a case of "it's almost perfect"
  11. the sun is shining, life is good. most cyclists are friendly.... what more can you want?
  12. for my 2c I'd say custom. I've had custom wheels for some years now, and although I had some issues (user induced) with the ringle hub, I've never regretted custom wheels. That said I aint ever used a larny mavic wheelset, but at the price they don't bear thinking of. Just don't forget the wheelbuilder needs to know what they're doing too.
  13. perhaps it's time for some kind of breakaway league. independts not linked in any way shape or form to political bollocks wandering around there. anyone know some benevolent and brilliant folk for the role?
  14. Hope, with matching hubs (currently covered in a little mud)
  15. HOw about an Orbea. They always look quite nice. No idea about the ride.... but italian handling at a spanish price?
  16. presenting ...... my new toy and second love of my life (wink at the wife)
  17. twas a long time when we stood and admired your bike..... right so then this weekends mission is to go and get some cold weather riding gear. I don't think a plain pair o bib shorts is going to cut the mustard currently. and some spiked winter tyres, while I'm at it.
  18. It has arrived, in one piece. yay!!!!! pics later lads
  19. again??? you never saw me paint anything. it's not worth seeing anyhow.
  20. da, I thought the anodising was a good plot too. paint chips and the like are just never good. If you're anything like me, that leads you down the path of trying to paint it yourself, and that's a big no-no. Then you end up with a red yellow and green bike that looks k@k
  21. Well originally i was going to be very original and get black. And then I saw the grey colour, and that was real cool. Unfortunately they don't do that colour any more, so I'm back to anodised black.
  22. well, bythis evening I hope to have the frame, and i can put on the seat collar. but Idon't have any of the tools required to move my stuff over. so I'm going to have another entertaining discussion with Aleksander, the one bike mech I found out here who has the tools (let alone skills) to put the stuff on. anyone know what "anti-sieze compound" is in russian?
  23. I managed to catch the correct bus, just in the wrong direction. so I just stayed on the bus until I got back.... 3 and half hours later. Got a great drive through some really bad areas I'll post pictures this evening.
  24. dire is what it looks like. the love of crumbling grey cement is a true marvel.
  25. So..... I have now paid $400 for the broker to sort out everything. Apparently, they will deliver some time today.... I'm not sure whether I should feel relief or elation....
