  1. I'd offer some advice Minty, but last time I tried I spray - painted a bike red yellow and green. I know I know, style and taste was never my strong point: besides I grew up in Saldanha.....but can I use that as an excuse?? probably not....suffice to say better if I just watch from the sidelines. And occasionally yell meaningless inanities at everyone.
  2. I still firmly believe a "Guide to Having A Sense of Humour, Simultaneously!!" should be part of the new bike purchase goodies, along with "Pointing your bike Forward: Advanced skills for every competitor". And never forget "Zinn and the art of enjoying riding for ridings' sake"
  3. wow, I'm getting a strange feeling of deja vu.....
  4. Get Time ATAC's are the way to go....I can confirm that they work in dust, mud and snow. Simple & reliable.
  5. wow! This is really amazing hagar...I'm real impressed at how everyone is willing to help out. Best of luck to you and Bonnie. I look forward to yelling encouragement to the two of you next year.
  6. gparsons: definitely go for the hardtail first. Much better skills will be developed, then go for the full susser, can recommend a Titus Moto Lite. falling is part of the game, but it likely happens when you do something real stupid or real slow (or both), and you'll do both at some point.
  7. Go for a Marzocchi, they have revived the 32mm stanchion diameter XC forks... nothing could be better... maybe at your weight you should be less concerned about how light it is?
  8. hmmmmm, at first guess I'd say sounds like the rebound is too slow.... not sure if the fork has a rebound adjuster but if it does, try playing with it a little. if the fork hasn't been serviced in a long while, maybe a service is what you need. but! just save some cash and get a marzocchi... you will not regret it.
  9. alternatively, the government could encourage more comedies on the airwaves and get everyone to relax a little. maybe then people will learn to slow and chill a little.
  10. leave the weldtite chainsmax alone. it just isn't worth it. White lightning still works well. Pedros ice wax is also good (for me anyway) if you can get it.
  11. oh well, as jy dom is moet jy maar k@k
  12. pics like these make one wonder if we shouldn't just pay some drivers to be extra aggressive for a year or so, and keep ourselves off the road. Then maybe the dumb-@sses will be cleared out....... If only the world had a sense of justice: if you're deliberately stupid you get punished severly...... eish guys, if anyone knows these fools give them a good kicking from me... with real passion.
  13. hmmm, did not consider a full susser as making it smooth and manicured. I always thought it just got you through the rough stuff quicker. Single-speed might be hard core but I like the application of advancement more... then I can always say "I was going along at pace when (insert current component you want to replace here) fell apart, and was forced to go old school"
  14. don't bother with anything other than Time ATAC's. They work, always. Simple and reliable. You will not regret it.
  15. Plenty. I posted a thread called "Pics from Boratstan" somewhere around here. Those were some introductory pics. Hope the pic of the parking lot comes out okay. they have blocked off individual parking bays to stop other people parking in their bays...Kazakh solution is to park in front of the parking bay!
  16. Da comrade. I am working here. Reckon I'll stay through the winter, so I can get some snowboarding done. Tried ice skating on the weekend, didn't go well at all.... It's actually not too cold at the moment. It dropped to between 0 and -5, but unfortunately it wasn't cold enough up in the mountains for some good skiing snow...
  17. um.... okay...not exactly what I had in mind
  18. so our first snow of the season (was supposed to be rain) but hey. Breakfast view Lunchtime and Dinner time Damn it's getting pretty cold....
  19. even the Abominable snowman has been put to work!!
