  1. Sure and I allude to that versatility in the last paragraph of the above post. But even in your case it's still a road bike that can go country side. It's not a mtb which is what many seem to be buying a GG for. It's still a niche bike with limited appeal. Those chasing sub 3 CTCT will get a proper road bike. Those chasing xco XCM stage racing will get a mtb Some will have both Those fortunate enough to have n+1 will add a GG alongside the fatbike gathering dust in the garage And then there's You I mean come on.... An Alpina!!!
  2. I think of it as a question to the market: "Is this what you're asking for? Really, well ok here it is LOL..!? I can't see why they would offer a drop bar MTB XC bike which ultimately a full sus gravel bike is. This industry is its own worst enemy. Johnny T rode a drop bar MTB 25years ago so the idea is not new. I can't see the point of gravel bikes when an MTB hardtail will accept a very broad range of tyres, is comfortable, stable, load bearing and can be built nearly as light as a road bike! It just seems to fulfill a requirement for a bunch of okes who want to be different without actually being different. Gravel bikes are really just retro road bikes from the early post WWII era. That Airstreem Gravel is a really nice idea though because I'd love a road bike that can handle range of tyres and can be raced as well as ridden along lose surfaces simply because Cape Towns road are so k*k the comfort of the bigger tyres is really appealing
  3. Exactly. Hence I get Niner's tongue in cheek poke at full sus gravel bikes by fitting a RKT with drop bars. I'm going to swing a 29er HT into a GG bike and vice versa when red etap goes 12. Can probably do it now with X01 11
  4. So what you're saying is you would like a turn of the century mtb with 700C wheels....?
  5. you smaak jizzy bags nuh
  6. Pasop If she finds out you said anything bad about her.... boom............PK
  7. You sending me a Jiffy bag?
  8. Doubt the partner would know hey... Not sure that this is USPS or Sky scale doping where they lying on the bed next to other juicing it up. Probably just a case of flagging form and needing to get back up there to meet contractual obligations. WADAever it was another one bites the dust Fact that there's no excuse of Anemia or failing kidney's suggest it wasn't a health issue being poorly managed
  9. This ^ Key is to have a plan that both you and your team mate find achievable. IF not , it's going to be a far more humbling experience than it needs to be. Those who know, understand that just finishing is humbling enough considering what riders have to deal with everyday through the event
  10. Might be there, might not. Depends on whether I can buy an entry closer to the time having been unsuccessful in the lottery. Husband of my wife's pal rode Epic 2018. Had an "Epic" March. Rode tour of Good Hope as final prep, then sub3'd the Argust and then tackled the Epic after a weeks rest. His CTL was over a 100 before the prologue. This tells me two weeks of taper isn't necessary. Also CTL isn't indicative of your relative fitness, just that you have been consistent in raising your fitness from your starting point. I'd be more inclined to say that you need a PTW of >3.0W/Kg and a positive TSB (your form or freshness). I appreciate everyone will have different ideas on this so lets hope this part of the discussion flourishes. All good advice above especially the hygiene bits. He gave me some good tips on bike maintenance, riding kit, nutrition etc. I'm definitely in the natural food camp.
  11. https://support.garmin.com/en-ZA/ql/?focus=topics the above link should guide you. Where did you buy the unit? You can send it back to Garmin SA via the retailer for repair
  12. I have mounted the same unit left or right top or bottom. It doesn't matter if the screw is at the top or the bottom
  13. They mount above or below the bar and act as matchmaker for brake lever
  14. I've used the dual lock out as well as the single (RS-1) and RS Monarch XX. They work well but do need to be serviced. The plastic plate in the lever assembly seems to be break and then the unit remains locked.. During service this is replaced with a metal unit and then it works again and lasts longer
  15. 15% VAT + 1% handling fee + 15% duty worst case from what I understand
  16. Ok Checkers sorting it out. Can we put a sock in it now? [drum roll........and applause]
  17. there is always dispensation granted to people with disabilities. the hearing impaired would fall into this category. But how does the motorist know that the cyclist can't hear them approaching? Not everyone has access to Varia. Simple, Motorists need to understand that others lives is just as much their responsibility as it is the person. It is under this premise that more mature society's place the responsibility for life in the hands of the motorist
  18. Yes a newish curse that has emigrated from Wattbike culture
  19. I disagree. The attitude of motorists is that only their space is important. To heck with the busses, school busses, taxis, cyclists or anyone else using the road in a less grande manner than driving a passenger car /SUV /Fortuna /crossover etc. The presence of a cyclist is incidental because the same behaviour is directed at the little old lady who just pulled out of a side street in front of said motorist and is now driving 19km/hr below the speed limit. The same cyclist who ran a red light is going to do the same in their car. You won't change their behaviour while on the bike but you may if there is a ton of inconvenience while behind the wheel of their car. I have discovered that if I obey the traffic laws while driving other drivers start to do the same. I've seldom come across a motorist being positively influenced by a person on a bicycle
