  1. thanks for the feedback. put more stock in you guys advice than a GP who'll most likely prescribe antibiotics.
  2. Any tips for getting over a cold? I've had one on and off for about 2 months now, and every time I do some hard cardio exercise it comes back again. Starting to really depress me. I take vitamins, eat really healthy stuff etc, but the cold won't bugger off! Any ideas .. common experiences??
  3. You must be joking! What I would love to know is how much these stolen bikes get sold for and how they are used in their new life. Any info?
  4. Interesting. Hope this bugger gets put away for a long time. Our experience in Obs though is that criminals like this are out on bail very soon and get rightback to what they know best.
  5. I've never had a problem there, even seen a dodgy character. And there is always security in or around the parking lot - its extremely unlikely for car breaking to occur there.
  6. ORCA, do you have more info on this? Where did you get the update from? Hope to hell it true - I ended up doing a spin class yesterday instead of hitting the mountain. That's just wrong on a nice sunny afternoon!
  7. Great post, thanks for sharing. Bit tougher than tokai isn't it!
  8. Probably an hour of pain up, and 5 mins of bliss down!
  9. Fancy riding this? The Stelvio Pass is one of the highest Alpine Passes of Europe with its 2758 m. There are 48 hairpin turns on the northern side of the pass. The original road was built in 1820-1825 by the Austrian Empire to connect the former Austrian province of Lombardia with the rest of Austria, covering a climb of 1871 m. Since then, the route has changed very little. The 60 hairpin bends, 48 of them on the northern side numbered with stones, are a challenge to motorists.
  10. Hendrik, the point is I did it without resorting to rudeness .. and with far less of these: !!!!!!!!!! But hey, it's Friday so my mood is good to great. Peace!
  11. Ok, just for the sake of balance, here is my Rave about a LBS: The Epic Bike Shop in plumstead, Cpt, has done good things for me. Did a service and set-up at very short notice and got everything right. Very passionate about bikes, and all the staff are very active riders.
  12. Hendrik - bad news buddy: seems we live in a country where free speech is allowed. Even worse, people can express opinions we don't like! And that is my last word on subject (sorry, JaMMEx - you'll have your entertainment somewhere else!)
  13. I've got no agenda here, and am not trying to create a bad impression, just telling it like it is. And yes, I gave them feedback about the pedals not fitting and the guys reaction was "wow, bummer" although he was very nice about it. And the service was the last i ever got there because I moved away. I am expressing my opinions, not presenting them as facts, and offering a balanced viewpoint. Is this not allowed on the Hub, Hendrik?
  14. I've shopped there for over 10 years. Bought 2 bikes and numerous peripherals. My experience has been mixed: great service from some of the guys, and poor from others. REcently I was sold a pair of shoes with cleats that did not match the pedals i bought. Cost me a couple of hours and a return trip to the shop. My last bike service there saw my chain get lubed with some black grease stuff that got all choked with sand on my next ride. Their range of stock is excellent though, and prices quite fair.
  15. So this guy in the bakkie is parked by the HiQ, ready to throw stuff? Or is he driving past? I can't quite picture it ... Maybe his wife ran off (pedalled?) with a cyclist and he has sworn revenge on all of us?
  16. Easy tiger ... Well, (and I sense you won't like this), you need to download a flash Video Player (FLV player) to view the file that you've saved. They are free, easy to find on google, and is not a big download. If you are going to dowload a lot from youtube it is well worth it. I'll post a link to a good download site if you request it.
  17. There is an even easier way to record youtube videos: simply type "kiss" in between the 'www' and the 'youtube' - e.g. www.kissyoutube.com/234354etc. You will be taken to a new page where you can download the selected file. Kiss stands for keep it simple stupid of course. Try it - really works well.
  18. My 2004 GT 1.0 came with a Suntour XCR-PRO. I was realyl impressed: although its heavy, it was quite plush, and responsive, and the lockout was perfect. However, my wife has a Suntour entry level fork on her Rincon and it sucks! doesnt seem to do anything.
  19. Have Puma and Danish company Biomega come up with the ultimate folding mountain bike? The Down Tube wire is a structural part of the frame ? integrating the locking mechanism in the frame subsequently rendering the bicycle non functional if someone breaks the lock to steal the bicycle. Although the bike has a folding mechanism it isn?t a regular folding bike. It is made for quick & dirty type fold: Entering the elevator, the tube, the office. Puma Biomega Bike This "Urban Mobility bike" is one example of how designers are attempting to reduce bike theft. It's an uphill struggle, though. Figures from the British Crime Survey show that in 2005/06, a record 439,000 bicycles were stolen across England and Wales. Visit www.bikeoff.org and www.puma.com/bike for more information. http://bikesthatfold.com/images/stories/bikes/puma/puma1o.jpg http://bikesthatfold.com/images/stories/bikes/puma/puma2o.jpg439,000 bicycles were stolen across England and Wales439,000 bicycles were stolen across England and Wales
  20. No you didn't! That's what I was pissed off about: no steep descents and sharp turns. It's like the route designer left out all the best parts of Jonkershoek.
  21. Nice bike ... Well, after this feedback I have learned the following: 1. I am fit enough to do the long routes now 2. If it's a Fun ride, focus on having Fun! Thanks for the photos!
  22. Ya, the longer would have been better, but it had only two little stretches of single track, yet was only about 8 km longer. I spoke to some of the guys afterwards and they were also pretty disappointed with the route.
  23. Did anyone do the Jonkershoek MTB race yesterday? I was really disappointed by the route and organisation. When I complete the 25km route in just over 1 hour, you know the ride was too easy! The problem was that most of it was on roads, flat ones at that. There was only a short section in the forest, and no climbs! The marshalling was poor with very few of the fluorescent vest guys having any idea of which route was which. I am a bit concerned because i see a bit of a trend here. The race calendar is getting filled up with people wanting to capitalise on the growing numbers of people doing this sport, and their prime motivation seems to be money, not putting on a great event. There is no passion or love for the sport - just a greedy mindset. The result is races like Saturday's Jonkershoek ride! By the way, I notice it was organised by the local NGK, not a cycling club. What do you guys think - is there is a trend here or should i just choose my races more carefully?
  24. This is bit like re-inventing the wheel: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/6375259.stm It has been hailed as the first major development in bicycle design for 150 years. The Sideways Bike has a steerable wheel with a set of handlebars at either end. The cyclist sits sideways and operates a wheel with each hand, and pedalling makes the whole bike travel sideways. Its key advantage is that it's more manoeuvrable than a conventional bike, says its inventor Michael Killian, 46, a software engineer in Dublin. "The strange thing about it is it's very like snowboarding or sailing because you're moving sideways and operating on a different balance system in your head. "It's a front-to-back balance not a left-to-right like a normal bike. That affords you tremendous grace and motion. It's dance-like. "The advantages are in the motion. It's never going to win you the Tour de France. But it's mesmerising and entertaining."
  25. Are you near Cape Town? Chris Willemse CYcles has some great clearance specials on: Mongoose meteor elite for R5500, and also GT idrive full suspension for R5500. Those are serious bargains!
