    Jock 2013

Road works. It's quite short stages, but obviously with big climbs - is it all out racing or more social?
  2. Sheesh you of course know the idea of a "recovery ride"? Going max hr is just crazy! Can't really comment from a medical side, but a general trend is that people go too hard on softer/recovery rides and too soft on hard rides.
  3. Ok so taking into account what you said and reading through the constitution, it's clear to me that PPA's mandate is as wide as to DO EVERYTHING. This is what I have a problem with. Don't get me wrong, I actually think they are doing a good job, but narrow down the focus, because my feeling is that there is a mismatch between people doing things and who are capable and too much money. There is a big difference between "promote cycling and the interests of cyclists" which would include commuters on the one hand, and racing on the other hand. Jack of all trades but master of none?
  4. Dibbs on your zipps...
  5. Cheese mate, thanks! If anybody want to leave remarks, comments or just to diss me, you're welcome at https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/123934-relocating-from-the-pink-city-to-the-city-of-gold/ so that I stop hijacking this thread!
  6. Are you sure? Who would that be - Juniors, Elites and Vets not making the $ cut?
  7. 92km: 05h50- $ (Top Elites, Junior Men and Top Veteran Men) 05h54- # (Tandem) 05h57- % (Racing Women) 06h00– A Group; followed by groups B to X at 3 minute intervals.
  8. Moving to Jhb next month... (I should still start a new thread to introduce myself to the Jhb crowd!)
  9. I don't know if I should laugh or cry. Do I seriously have to stand in the cold and possibly wet from 4h50? I can't take a jacket and warm clothes, because where do I leave it? Looking forward to my last race in Cpt, but yoh, give a guy a break!
  10. Sorted - thanks guys!
  11. He found a team.
  12. Our Moore Stephens Subvet team is mixing it up with some or other team called Westvaal BMC...
  13. "due to sickness" He didn't get better.
  14. You interested? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/123820-5h30-rider-needed-for-dc/
  15. Hi everyone. Our team has had a late withdrawal due to sickness. Is anybody interested in joining us? We are aiming for 5h30. Our start is just after 7h00. Accomodation is available with us very close to Swellendam. We can try to arrange transport if needed.
  16. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_time_trial for some stats. The two fastest time trials longer than 20km are shown below. The Millar one is insanely fast! Greg LeMond 54,545 km/h Versailles - Paris (24,5 km) 1989 David Millar 54,361 km/h Pornic - Nantes (49 km) 2003 Remember, the hour record is done on a wooden cycling track.
  17. Agreed. Mercx and all of them did the hour record in their day, but I don't see current pros doing it. Imagine how Fabian would fly!
  18. He was disqualified because it wasn't a normal/standard bicycle. There's now two types of hour records, one with "normal" bikes (read older) and one with "other". You have to draw the line somewhere.
  19. And that bike doesn't have a UCI sticker on...
  20. Is he trying to do it purely on his own strength? Couldn't get that part from the article. Why doesn't he just jump from space and beat the sound barrier as well... or technically go faster than the speed of sound at ground level, but not faster than the sound of speed at altitude.

Let's not take away from all those who did the 94.7 - well done everyone! You'll see this capie there next year!

    2012 94.7

Yeah that's why Burry, Kevin and the likes win all the road races in SA. I wish they would give us "roadies" a chance
  23. Probably training too much with all those early morning 2h rides...

  25. I might not be with my team by that stage, but if I am I'll try riding and slipping it. It shouldn't be too bad as the local farmers use it. Then again...
