  1. Well put, walkerr! And thank you for taking the time to learn more about the background of cycling and administration as well as about PPA and CSA. If you are interested, you might find it useful to attend those respective organisations' AGMs. The dates should be on the respective websites.
  2. Eat healthy and then no need for any injections...
  3. I know it sounds bad, but also to note that they really only should do admin. Let the people on the ground do what's needed on the ground. They'll for example choose a South African Road Team (admin), but they won't really get involved in the nitty gritty work. I'm not giving an opinion whether they should or not.
  4. Sounds about right. They are having difficulties reorganising races and/or routes and it can only be updated on calenders once confirmed. In general there's many more races in Jhb, I guess because there's many more people that cycle that side.
  5. Walker you didn't really read much of what I sent? Did you read the 2020 vision? Did you read the balance sheets and income statements per month? Everything is there to the rand. If you want to go further and question specific line items, then please send CSA an email and come back to us. Listen, I'm not saying everything they do is 100% correct, but I believe a sport needs a body to control it. It's legislated and comes down from Government / Sascoc. Imagine the difficulty in managing the CSA, which is made up mostly of volunteers. Everybody wants something for them, but there sure are a lot of everybodies! If you're really interested you can actually become involved by attending meetings, etc. Fresh ideas are always needed in bodies and committees.
  6. Hot... or cold off the press... read all about it... http://www.cyclingsa.com/governance.aspx#36
  7. Come now guys, I don't see Spartacus moaning about "wheel suckers"! It was a good race so let's stay on the positive road...
  8. He could be in anycase, but not sure for what you want him prosecuted?
  9. I'll try to answer your questions in the order you asked: We need an organisation to organise cycling in SA Clients? Yes, not sure what your point is? Constitution The races are organised with CSA the overriding body, therefore if you don't belong to them, you don't get money.
  10. The 99er is a wonderful race through Durbanville and surrounds. It might look expensive, but as far as I understand, it's actualy a non-profit race. You must understand everything that goes into organising a big race like that. Fact is, everything is getting more expensive. Your father told you that and I'll probably tell my kids, "you know, back in 2013 we only paid R300 for the 99er" and the kiddies will sit and listen in awe. At least you still have a choice - you don't have to do it. So think of the positives you actually get out of the race!
  11. Where is the line between youngster and not? Chris Jooste Jnr finished 3rd at Die Burger. He's something like 17!
  12. I rode in $, but didn't really do any racing upfront. Wanted to take the last race a bit "easier" and take up everything. Some of you might've seen my splits from last year and below is from this year: 7km - 15 minutes - 28km/h - 1st Darren Lill and then the first group after him must have done around 13 - 14 minutes. 23km - 31 minutes - 45km/h 30km - 46 minutes - 39km/h 30km - 46 minutes - 39km/h 32km - 39 minutes - 49km/h 92km - 131 minutes - 42km/h
  13. Congratulations to everybody that did the race!! It was an awesome day and event. Keep those wheels turning and enjoy your holiday.
  14. There wasn't road closures last year. Although on the way back on the R44 you wouldn't have said so with the echelons spread across the road into the other yellow lane! You can go over Hels and if you're early and lucky you can park in the parking area next to the garage at the bottom of Hels on Stellenbosch's side.
  15. I always thought it looks like a Transformer robot and I get ready to go into battle. Then turning off I feel like a hero, because the Transformer has been defeated by the same sign with a strike-through!
  16. Even if I finished dead last in 2011, I would've still beaten NeverEnder, because he can't stay upright on his bike and takes a lie down over the train tracks...
  17. It wouldn't make that big a difference!! Your ascent would still stay the same and you would maybe ride a few meters shorter taking the inside lane. 200m climbing for 5km = 4.0% 200m climbing for 5.1km = 3.9%
  18. Make it higher. You'll very seldom hit your MHR on a training ride, and maybe your mind overrode your body in that you thought you can only go to 183 so you "stopped" at 182. There's always more in the tank! I had to up my MHR after hitting a higher number in an uphill sprint recently.
  19. If I split my first 30km further, the first 7km up to the top of old Hels was done in 15 minutes (28km/h) while the next 23km was done in 28 minutes (49km/h) - remember that is with the SE from the back, actual Hels downhill as well as generally down down to the 30km mark. Regarding old Hels: 5,870m (from where you turn right at the bottom) and 239m climbing = 4.1% gradient so not that steep, although some short corners are quite steep. Chappies from Noordhoek is about 2,400m and 108m climbing = 4.5%.
  20. Same as DC!
  21. Yes, let's all do that. I can't see myself standing there from 4h50 for an hour in the cold and wet.
  22. For your interest - my Burger from last year starting from $ and with a strong SE: 30km in 43m (42km/h) 30km in 47m (38km/h) 31km in 48m (39km/h) 91km in 2h18 (40km/h)
  23. Well done to NuWater - super effort! The results are on Racetec - http://results.racetec.co.za/results_by_event.aspx?RID=4418&EN=Sat%2024%2F11%2F2012%20Coronation%20Double%20Century%20%28202km%29 1st - NuWater 2nd - Focus / Craft 3rd - Demacon / EOH 4th - Hot Chillee 5th - Berge Farrel Design Daikin was definitely there.
  24. "Three years ago we had four or five professional teams and it looks like next year there will only be two." Not sure what he means, but teams competing next year in SA (there might be more): MTN Bonitas Tasol Westvaal NuWater
  25. 40 - 45km/h
