  1. Where exactly at 2pm?
  2. I don't think you can statistically "prove" that point, because both your sample size is too small and your sample is not a good representation of the whole cycling population. Don't worry, man. Just do your thing as long as it means no harm. Remember, everybody's different and might not have the same opinions and/or expectations than you.

    Rapha Festive 500

Perfecto! Really glad I went with. Met great guys & girls. Knee not better yet or is it a long term thing?
  4. Not sure exactly on what training level you are in terms of time, effort, etc., but it seems better training would be much better than trying to take shortcuts with supplements and the like. Do you have a heart rate monitor? If you want you can PM me your training for the last month and I can try to help out with ideas and opinions.
  5. So using your principle, should the other person greet back or not...

    Rapha Festive 500

Nice! Only did 25km this morning Will have to pull up my socks...
  7. And here I wanted to ask what was broken...
  8. New to Jhb, Leg Breaker, so can't really help out there. Why didn't you jump into a bunch and ask them about their rides (even if they went the other way)?
  9. My opinion is that you train too hard too often. Ride softer on your recovery rides or rest. You're not going to get stronger by going beyond threshold every day.
  10. How many "get-out-of-jail" noob cards do I get?
  11. Where/what dam? (Jozie newbie gives me the right to 100 noob questions)
  12. Where's Modders?
  13. Thanks Mark. And get well soon! Is there any way I can cycle there all the way from home, or is that not adviseable? Don't really like driving my car to go cycle.
  14. Afternoon hubbers. I want to do my first Cradle ride tomorrow, but have a few questions. What would the best route be for me to get there from Valerie Avenue, Northcliff, just off 14th Avenue? And how do you normally ride the Cradle in terms of which way around? Furthermore, is anybody going out that side tomorrow morning early I can join up with? Still finding my bearings and lungs here in Jozies.
  15. As long as we all know what we're talking about, because there is quite a big difference between different zone methods. Thanks for picking up that Bicycling uses the Karvonen method
  16. Is the Tygerberg MTB Club affiliated to CSA? In anycase, you don't need to belong to club anymore to get a CSA license. If you're having problems while joining on CSA, send them a mail or phone them.
  17. Instead of adding one by one, can't a Hub SA group/batch be connected to as friends on Strava?
  18. I can actually understand the talking and texting thing, because I've done it before and then for the life of me can't remember that part I've just driven! I think they've actually done studies of the brain to show how it affects you. But using the smartphone for other things, e.g. GPS, should not be illegal. Like the comment then what about touching or handling anything in the car. Another law with good intentions, but not thoroughly thought through. Maybe they should make a "drive" mode.
  19. Using the Karvonen formula gives different percentages to what Richard posted for zone 1, e.g. 114bpm / 60% of MHR while the Karvonen formula gives for zone 1 an average of 92bpm / 48%.
  20. I don't know why they want to complicate it. Using those formulas you work back to a range of maximum heart rate, e.g. my zones using MHR of 190 and RHR of 50 as beats per minute: Zone 1: 78 - 106bpm Zone 2: 106 - 134bpm Zone 3: 134 - 162bpm Zone 4: 162 - 176bpm Zone 5: > 176bpm
  21. This perhaps links to my suggested 2 tier system. The problem with drugs is that the doctors come up with mixes and concontions combining little effect drugs. That's why we're at the stage of having the banned list we have. That said, things like caffeine was banned before, but not anymore. But maybe you are correct in that the science has evolved in that maybe new studies can be performed to see what helps and what doesn't. The point is, it's not as clear cut as you might think if you take the whole spectrum from pro racing to commuting
  22. Thanks Andre. I saw the email and link now: http://www.pedalpower.org.za/blog/news/enter-now-for-ppa-summer-league-2013/ It's doesn't look bad. Rather, it looks good. The Voor-Paardeberg Circuit Race is as hard as nails. Bouckaert Soenen League great and longer race. Tour De PPA also interesting although a bit more flat. Another tough one is Lady Loch Circuit Race, although they could make it longer and Medallion Tour De Stellenbosch is also a good race.
  23. At the moment I'm only loading races and not training.
  24. Do I just go to My Profile and then copy the link? If so, I'm... http://app.strava.com/athletes/1063257
  25. Do you have the dates and races for summer?
