  1. I have one of my older bikes permanently on the trainer. Use a towel over the handlebars. I also have a fan on in the room. It cools you off while riding and dry's the sweat so very little gets on your bike. Before I had the fan there was a lot of sweat on the bike and floor.
  2. Got the Hero3+ for Christmas. Mine is going to be used for taking videos from my race car. Most of the guys that I race with, have a video camera on their car. I tried it on my bike and the video quality is great. Doubt I would ever use it in a bike race or to just go for a training ride. If you are going to use it for races just remember that the battery life is quite short, just over a hour. You can buy a bigger battery pack.
  3. Rolex Oyster Datejust. Also have a Tag Heuer Carrera.

    Time trials

I have been riding and racing road bikes for years so this may seem a bit of a stupid question. Riding through the Cradle I see a lot of time trial bikes. I never see time trial races. Are these only used for triathlons? or are there races for these bikes? I would be interested in riding time trials and could convert one of my bikes into a time trial bike. I do not want to do triathlons as my knee prevents me from running.
  5. The Tacx Fortius was a bit like that with wires all over the place. The IVortex runs of one plug into a power outlet. Everything else is run over ANT and a dongle in my laptop. I have spare bike full time set up on the trainer so all I have to do is switch on the laptop. It's all set up in a spare room. Time to start riding is limited by the time it takes to start the laptop.
  6. Stupid question what is a FTP number? I use mine quite a lot, had the Tacx Fortius before the Vortex. I live in Four Ways area in JHB, no chance of riding on the local roads, the only option is the Cradle on the weekends or Kyalami during the week. I have ridden both so many times it's almost as bad as sitting on a trainer. Kyalami is actually worse.
  7. I have downloaded - Les Calanche Di Piana - Cote de Puget I have been riding the Cote de Puget video for the last 2 weeks, my legs are dying. I hear what you are saying about using Catalyst but sitting on the training bike for a hour a day is bad enough, at least with the video's there is something to look at. With catalyst there is just a graph. How many hours a week do you ride on the trainer?
  8. Recently I bought a Tacx I Vortex trainer. ( I had a Tacx Fortius for a few years). - had anybody got a I Vortex ? - what is your opinion on it? - do you think that the wattage displayed is realistic? - when going downhill I get some ridiculously high speeds displayed, do you also get that? - what watts do you ride at in the mountains? - I have downloaded 2 of their videos which videos do you have? - for training I use the videos, what do you use?
  9. As a average fun rider I do not see the CSA doing a single thing for me. I lived in the WP and participated in PPA races there, these were properly organized and seeded. Have since moved to Gauteng, no PPA, the seeding in most races here is a joke. So I did not mind paying R250 to the PPA. Do I care abou a bunch of paraplegic cyclists winning medals, no not really. Means absolutely zero in my life. Cycling safety is a joke, at least in Cape Town they have cycling lanes. So what does the CSA do for me?

    Ninety Niner

Has anybody got the profile for this years Ninety Niner 108km route. Total ascent?
  11. He came past me going up Krugersdorp hill. I was in a low gear grinding up the hill, he was out the seat sprinting. Only realized who it was after the team car came past as well. It was hot in the Cradle and even worse going up the hill.
  12. Just ordered a new Pinarello Dogma 2013 frame. Should be getting it end January.
  13. He is talking about taking HGH for aging. Those are small quantities that will not result in any side effects except make you feel better. But even small doses will improve your performance on a bike and I guess that why it is banned. From what I have read, Lance got testicular cancer from overdosing cuortizone not HGH.
  14. Can't recall going over Botmans Kloof pass, how high is it?
  15. As a matter of interest, what was the route like for this race? I have done races around Wellington before and these were quite flat. Could not find a route profile for this one.
  16. Is there any testing being done in SA cycling at all?
  17. Also just read " From Lance to Landis" it's in a similar vein i.e. Lance bashing but both books expose what went on. After reading these I have lost all respect for LA. Not because of the doping, they were all doing it and in all probability still are,
  18. I got it 3 days ago, fascinating reading. Nearly finished.
  19. I am busy reading "The Secret Race" by Tyler Hamilton. If only half of what he writes is true about Lance Armstrong then I am all behind the USADA taking his TDF wins away. Anybody read the book?
  20. Someone posted below that their headaches stopped after switching to 32GI. I used to use Hammer Products, I used to get really bad headaches after long rides and races. Earlier this year I switched 32GI and no more headaches. I thought that it was because it was winter and I was not loosing as much fluids. But if somebody had the same experience then maybe it is what you are using on the bike. My reason for switching products had nothing to do with headaches it was purely because 32GI guarantee their products to be completely free of animal products.

    Campy Bora

I have set of Campy Bora One's. Best wheels I have ever had. I have been thinking of getting a set of Bora Ultra 80mm deep sections to use in the flatter races and use the Bora Ones on the hillier races. Will I notice any difference on the ride? I live and ride in JHB so wind is not so much of a factor.

    D2D vs Cape Cobra

I find that riding at the coast is a lot easier. More oxygen.

    D2D vs Cape Cobra

So it's a 100m more climbing but about 10km shorter? If I recall the Cobra is 85km?

    D2D vs Cape Cobra

The D2D had around 1075 m climbing, any idea on the Cobra?
