  1. My wife has "volunteered " to be the support vehicle for a few of us riding the race. I have done the event before and she has been there with me but has always been in the car with somebody else. This time she will be on her own. We can find the first stop at the school in White River on Google maps, cant find the second stop at Sabie. Does anybody know if the school changed its name? or does anybody have GPS co-ordinattes?
  2. Unfortunatly it is very difficult to get money out of people just for charity, hence there is a bicycle race and you are happily parting with your money. No bicycle race, no charity. This year they got their money. Five more years of protests, no bicycle race, no charity. I have no doubt they feel they need to make their case heard and they probably have reason. But in my opinion they are targeting the wrong event. The CTCT is, in all probability, a mostly white event. A demographic that has very little, or less than none, power in government. Pissing a few cyclists of is not going to get anything done apart from a few posts on the hub, which is not exactly a political powerhouse.
  3. Dude, I am not wealthy, I have a job which I look after and do everything that I can to keep. I do deserve what I have, I would have the same whether I was living in Europe or USA or anywhere else. I would have the same level of education and I would earn accordingly. By the way, SA labour is not cheap it cost more to build and construct here than in most other countries. To get out of the poverty cycle the country needs more bussiness. The CTCT is a business and a very profitable one, the CTCT is not there for my benefit but it is there to support that business and to bring money into the Western Cape area. I am guessing here, but the timing of the race is very closely aligned to a periodical downturn in the tourist industry in Cape Town in March. Falls very neatly in between the Christmas holidays and Easter. The majority of the riders are from out of Cape Town and hence bring in much needed money. The money does not go directly to the protesters or shack dwellers, but some of them or their family will be employed in restaurants and B&B and shops that I will go to. There are also a number of charities that the CTCT supports which goes to the poor of the Western Cape. I do realize that the shack dwellers haven concept of this, all they see is a bunch of rich whites having fun on their bikes, the value of which could feed their family for a year. The CTCT will go ahead next year, but there maybe be a few people less, especially those that are coming from out of town. And less money will finds its way to those protesting. You cannot take away from me to solve SA's problems, you cannot tax me more to make SA a better place. You need to create wealth by supporting business in whatever form. Business creates work, which creates jobs, which creates salaries, which take away hunger, provide a roof over your head, and in cases like mine buys bicycles. If you make it difficult for business, such as the situation is in SA, investment goes somewhere else and more poverty comes our way.
  4. If you must know, my bike is worth somewhere around 140k. Pinarello,Di2, SRM power meter etc. Busy planning to buy a F10, so soon my bike will be worth around 200k. I also have three other bikes worth around 100k. I worked hard to get those bikes and I do not feel one bit of guilt. I did not ride the race today and glad I did not come to CT although I had entered. Would've cost me a lot of money to go there and I would have been completely pissed off. Its not just the money, its the months of training and planning that went into it. The protesters should be targeting the ANC government and not my hobby / sport.
  5. I entered the race, but about a month ago took the decision not to go. With a few mates we are training for the L'Etape and my training is not where I want it to be, too many long rides in the legs, etc. For me the only reason to go and ride the CTCT would be to target a sub 3. Last year 3.02, I was devastated. For me the cost of going to Cape Town from JHB is in the region of R 25k. Flights for me and the mrs, car hire accommodation, etc. The weather cannot be controlled and its just one of those things. Protest action is another, seems like the race was targeted. Who is to say it's not going to happen again next year. Unless the organizers can guarantee that the route will be clear, I am sure they can't and will not, I am not spending 25k plus to go to CT and ride a shortened route or not at all. It's a great route and it is iconic, but the costs and uncertainty of the race going ahead will keep me away.
  6. So glad I did not waste money doing this. With the wind and now a shortened route would have been a complete waste of R 20k going to Cape Town.
  7. Really good movie. Saw it on IMAX at Gateway. Worth the extra few bucks for the IMAX.
  8. Very unfortunately yes. The biggest load of crap that I have ever seen. Saw it in 3D, it's so badly filmed, could not see anything, mostly just shadows. Nothing like the games. In my opinion, nobody in that entire cast and set ever played the games. It's over complicated, mostly takes place in the present, a very few (I think 3) scenes in the past. What does Ezio do, he jumps of high towers, in the movie there is one scene with this, as he jumps, the idiot in the Anymus has a heart seizure. Could not possibly have been worse.

    Give it a TRI

Thanks that does help. I also looked at the distance and time to get there. Seems to be at least a two hour drive from Four Ways. So the extra petrol and toll fees will more than make up for the entry fee that you pay in Germiston.

    Give it a TRI

Has anybody done any of the races organized by the North West Triathlon Association? They have race coming up on the 14th Jan. It's either that or the Germiston race organized by Troi sports on the 15th.
  11. Great event and well organised apart from: Breakfast at first stop, I did not have it, but one of the guys on our team did,was not too complimentary. We were given breakfast packs by the guest house we stayed at so had those.Second stop at Sabi was too small for the number of people. Our team support (read wife coerced into supporting) had to park away from the venue, the second stop last year was a lot better and easier for supporters and riders.Second stop - my wife went use the toilet she said the female toilets were beyond disgusting.Lunch - both me my wife are on a vegetarian diet, there were more than likely a few more vegetarians in the race. My wife went to fetch me some lunch, they gave her a dry roll with a small piece of lettuce on it and some Nando's sauce. Really? If the organisers want, I will pay extra to get some decent lunch, or more than likely next year will bring my own. The other guys in our group who do eat meat, looked at the lunch, in their opinion the greasy offering looked disgusting and had whatever food we had with. I am not expecting a al carte menu but at least something edible and at least a small consideration for those that do not consume donkey or whatever that was.
  12. Same drama with the Tacx, was never sure it would work, when I got on the bike, took it back a few times to the bike shop, got sent out and repaired, got it back worked a bit and then the software would not not work or some other problem. Got a Cycleops, had it for 7 months now, not a single issue, download videos for free and just ride. Many more videos available to ride. Gives me much better resistance that the Tacx. The Tacx looks great, its all full of colourful plastic bits, but when it comes to the software nothing but problems.
  13. How do you stream Erosport?
  14. I have entered the Fast One in January. Will Discovery automatically deposit the 50% back for the race entry in my account? Do they pick it up from the entry list or do I have to let them know that I have entered and send proof? They do pick up our food purchases from Woolworths and refund, my wife uses a Woolworths card which is linked to Vitality. I paid my entry fee using a Nedbank credit card.
  15. Just got the mail. I am in, now for some hard training.
  16. Different shop and different people run in it now. Not a single Pinarello in the shop.
  17. On the start grid at Kyalami, and yes it's mine.
  18. 1. I have disconnected / unlicensed the old PC. The new ver 4.13 software did not ask me to put in the license code. When I run the software it says " migrating installed videos" I let it run the whole night last night so about 15 hours in total. Nothing happened. 2. I have the Tacx diognostics tool but it just gives me the PC specs. I can't run any diagnostics. Is there another way to do it?
  19. I have thought about it, but that is at least another 10k to fork out? I am at a point where I dislike Tacx intensely.. But you get stuck with it, download videos etc. and you are invested in the hardware and software. How much is the investment in a Cycloops?
  20. I train quite a bit indoors, can't get out on the road during the week. I have I Vortex trainer with my old Cervelo sitting on it full time so that I am not forever taking a bike on and off. For the last year I have been using my wife's laptop to run the software as it woul not run on my Mac, ( windows partition in place). Understandably she has been bitching that she never gets to use her laptop. She does have a tablet though. So for Christmas I bought myself a 20k desktop Dell with all the bells and whistles. While the Tacx software ran quite happily on my wife's crappy laptop it will not run on my new PC. I have updated the software to version 4.13 but still won't work. Has anybody had similar issues and any solutions. I have contacted Tacx support and they sent me the links for the updates.
  21. They still there and in bussines. Not sure how well they are doing but the shop is full of bikes. I start and end my Saturday ride from a coffee shop right next to the bike shop. Was talking to the sales guy at at the Specialized concept store in Cedar square and he said he saw a "Specialized" frame in the same shop. So they still hapillly selling Chinese imports.
