  1. The way i understand the seeding is that they use certain races that qualify for seeding. Your best one of those races counts. I ride Argus with my wife and they seed us according to my seeding only.
  2. The Ironman cut off is 17 hours. There are also cut off times for the swim (2h20), Bike (10h30 total time). Thus it is a challenge achievable to the masses. Ironman is only a race for a select few athletes. The other 1500 people are competing against them self. And a finish is most of the times even better than a win for the pro's. My wife is doing her first Ironman in April after having two kids. She is aiming for the late 15h mark but 16h59 will also do. Then ive got a climbing mate who fell of a rock and broke both ancles bad. had numerous operations and he is also doing it. He is planning to walk the marathon. Point is Ironman is for anyone with guts and determination and most people have very different back grounds and expectations. Maybe better not to judge on face value.
  3. Why the Freeride seat post?
  4. Obike has the Schwinn fastback cx cyclocross with 9sp tiagra for R5k. It will need some work to get the panniers working.
  5. I didnt do the race but my friends who did are all complaining about the same thing. With a R690 entry fee you expect a well orginised event with enough of everything. And it was the SA long distance champs!!!
  6. Just had a look at the weather and maybe go as light as possible. 55km/h wind.
  7. Sorry for my earlier post as I actually thought you were serious about this. if its going to be a joke then why do you even care about your ratios. Just ride anything.
  8. I did 94.7 on my 24" bmx with a 60 inch ratio. It was perfect. Completed the race with a 27km/h average. Because you are doing it on an mtb I would suggest 60" or max 62" where with a SS roadbike 65" The inch ratio is worked out by multiplying tha factor of the front and rear sprockets with the diameter of the rear wheel in inches. My mtb wheel diameter is 26.5 inches x for instance 32/14 = 60.57" ratio and that would be perfect. It should give a speed of 28,77km/h at 100 rpm. 94.7 was my first time on SS and it sucks when the bunch accelarates above 40km/h and you just cant pedal fast enough to stay on.
  9. This is wrong as kids takes much longer to learn the co ordination to pedal than to learn balance. Pedalling might take weeks or months for them to master and then when you introduce the push bike they learn to balance in 1 day. Then you can remove the training wheels of the 12" bike and they can cycle. Dont worry about the purchage of the JD bug or similar as they will still have fun with it for a couple of years. Both my daughters were cycling there 20" racing bmx's on there 3rd birthday. My 3year and 8 month old girl is doing her 1st bmx race tonight!
  10. First bike: plastic scooter 2nd: 12" wheels with training wheels 3rd: JD bug Then they can cycle anything they fit on.
  11. Cost of bike + transport = total Total x 1.15 (15% import duties) x 1.154 (15.4% vat) = basicly what you can expect to pay. Plus there is a small admin fee of maybe R30 at post office.
  12. I think the ratio is closer to 4:1. So in my opinion a 42 run equals a 180km ride. Running anything longer than 30km is just stupid. I burn 25% more kcal on a sub 12 ironman than a similar time comrades but there is no pain after the ironman unlike comrades where I can hardly walk for 4 days after.
  13. I am in F but riding tandem with my wife. We aiming for 3h30. Good luck!
  14. Is Breedt's Nek the climb just before you drop down to mountain sanctuary and Buffelspoort dam?
  15. Maybe the post should have read: "BAD Buyer - RTG7"
  16. I picked up 2 punchers in Klerksdorp in jan during the NW tri champs. Lots of angry locals all over the place.

    chain suck

This is exactly how I understood chainsuck. With a dual suspension the chain can get stuck between the front chainring and the frame. then you need to get off the bike and compress the rear shock till the chain falls out. Very irretating and happens in wet conditions.
  18. I rode tandem with my wife in AL. We arrived late and luckily missed the big crazy group. We had an awesome day. Did 3h11 instead of last years 3h46! Only problem was when BL passed as after Heidelberg that the singles kept on cutting in front of us after they passed. Had to give 2 or 3 riders a little push on the butt.
  19. coco pops
  20. I know the Joberg City tri was originally planned to be held at Emmarentia but the Ecoli count was of the charts. Thats why they had to settle with Germiston. So if Germiston is the cleanest dam in Jhb then surely you dont want to touch any open water here. I stopped doing local tri's 3 years ago as it just wasnt worth it for me. Ended up with a hectic sinus infection after every event. I would say bass lake is the best option. Has anyone tried Bloupan in Kempton?
  21. And Boyes Dr makes for a very interresting right hander at the bottom with the tandem.
  22. F with a sandbag on the tandem! Sorry liefie!!!
  23. Just took the tyre off. The sidewall is 100%. The tyre failed due too the bead that tore out the seam at the bottom of the sidewall. Weird!
  24. Went riding this morning and next moment the reinforcing inside the side wall must have failed as the bubble was so big it rubbed against the frame. I stopped and deflated the tyre and made it back home. The sidewall has not teared. Has anyone else experienced this problem with gatorskin / duraskin tyres?
