  1. This also happened on Friday in Stellenbosch. I did suggest to the gent to post here. So I will take a liberty hopefully with a view to help get the word out
  2. I went down the rabbit hole…also found the Topeak digital gauges that I got initially under read by almost .5 bar. I now have 4 digitals, including a pretty eye watering expensive digital floor pump. I have cross referenced them all against each other and have got my accurate ones now. I’m even guilty of double checking against my cars tyre pressure sensors…🤓Which are actually quite accurate. Also always inflate just before a ride and I use the SRAM AXS tyres inflation app for recommend pressures, which works great. Also religious about keeping sealant topped up/fresh - Hubtiger helps with the reminders.
  3. Cura X all the way, super happy with mine, the stopping power is nuts. In my case I found them a bit too hardcore, so calmed them down a bit with Shimano rotors. XTR are great if you are less than 85kg, don’t understand why there is such a difference between XT vs XTR in terms of stopping power. The Cura X are super bling! Titanium fitting and Kevlar hoses for the win! But you knew that already I’m sure…
  4. My process for eliminating creaks - start with seatpost, saddle rails into saddle and seatpost mount, headset, pedals, bb, and lastly through axels. Clean lube and reassemble with appropriate grease. Be careful with carbon assembly paste on a seatpost, I find it creates noise after a while, a good clean post with a bit of white ceramic grease in the frame area where seatpost goes in, careful to avoid actual clamping area works well. This tip came from a well know Campag guy. Works a treat.
  5. I found stans dart to be less than useless, with the applicator or dart breaking when trying to push it through the hole on a road tyre, so have been using Dynaplug. Also I find making sure your sealant is fresh and top upped or replaced on schedule makes a huge difference in its effectiveness. I’m currently running Mucoff on road. But be warned it is a bitch to get stains out of kit or marks off of high gloss finishes if it dries. So rinse off quickly after fitting a tyre and if you get a puncture and it winds up on your kit try rinse off asap.
  6. For mtb, I find Stans Race sealant to be the best. The race sealant has fibres and a grit like substance which seem to work really well at sealing. Check it every 3 months and top up or replace as needed and you are golden.
  7. Yeah, gotta say, if I’m stuck in that situation without knowing what’s behind me. I’m hitting the door and praying for the best.
  8. I absolutely believe that flashing lights during the day make a huge difference. So both mtb and road have Garmin varia lights front and rear. I ride fairly set routes in the week and I can see the difference on the odd occasion where I did not have lights. I do note that the rear varia does seem to have a moth to the flame effect with some motorists who for no reason that I can fathom actually pass closer on sections of road where I am on the shoulder and head back to the center of that road after having past. I don’t agree that the colour of the kit makes much of a difference, but keeping in mind there are reflective pieces on shoes, zips, bibs etc which reflect light quite sharply which is good, otherwise we need to ban all dark coloured cars also no?
  9. Yeah, another unpopular action. I will go to the middle of the road in sections where it’s narrow and I have to worry about being doored or with lots of concealed entrances/exits. Also no matter the time of day I ride with flashing lights front and rear. I try be polite about it and will move left as soon as safe to do so with a thank you to vehicle behind me. Condolences to the family of the deceased.
  10. It was more of a dig at the start times and me wanting to start at 7am rather than 8, Trailseeker sent out a communication that they were doing earlier start times, seems to be the case for the marathon, but not the half. And it looks to be a hot day again. Hence me wanting to identify as an e-biker riding my analog. Also does anyone know for sure that all entries are sold out and no late entries on race day? Who’s got the inside line?
  11. I identify as an e-bike rider. Also I see they get to start an hour earlier…pedal assistance and cooler temps 🤪
  12. As I have it you can late entry on race day. You will just start at with the last start group for your distance.
  13. Umm.. given that Bicycle Garage does not exist any longer. They surely mean Cyclelab Paarl?
  14. I’ve ridden the Pirelli’s which are great, but puncture protection for our roads is an issue. I’ve found the vittoria corsa next TLR tyres to be a good alternative with much better puncture resistance and no loss in performance. They are a tight fit to get on though.
  15. Supporting what @Lynskey says, great all round tyre combo with the mixed on the front and hard on the rear. I will also highly recommend the XC Race lite version of the Pirelli scorpion in 2.4. Super reliable and great all round tyre with this version being much lighter. But they are like hens teeth.
  16. So regardless of which one you change, the lever will still work the same way, you will just have alignment in that both shock and fork would the be open or closed at the same time. There is no specific direction for the lever as I have it, so determined by the shock and fork it will either be push to open or push to lock, no wrong or right there.
  17. It’s called a remote spool assembly and you either want the ptu or ptl one Knipe Racing sorted me out and the link above was me sharing what I had learned. speak to Louis.
  18. Hey, sorry to hear of your incident and glad you guys are ok and that the perpetrators caught. Where was this? Hermanus?
  19. Yes, it’s a minor change, you can get the fitting on the fork replaced with one that goes the other way. It was about R750 or so when I did it.
  20. Rode it this morning, there’s a new route signposted to get you to what is left of corkscrew, lots of jeep track, just follow the arrows. But that Botmaskop development has a lot to answer for. Wonder how they got approval…
  21. Depends what you after technical wise. Jonkershoek is fantastic with a wide range of trails from super technical black to easy blue trails. But put your climbing boots on. Banhoek is about as much fun on a manicured trail as you can find, but not much distance. But you can bolt on other farms as well in the network. Muratie is super for more natural trails. Plaisir is great and you start and finish at Boschendal, which is nice for family hang out at while you hit the trails. As mentioned the tygerburg network is also good.
  22. Yup, second that. Irma is the best!
  23. I would also look at cyclelab, great festive deals at the moment. The new store in Paarl is keen to get deals done, so I’m sure they are worth a look also.
  24. On that note, have you checked out Muratie trails? Super nice and they opened up a new section this weekend. Proper nice mix of all things single track and behind that paywall you refer to. But much like Jonkers, get your climbing boots on.
  25. Yeah, unfortunately the tik koppe seem to take chances on the trails as well. So mtb is not as safe as you might like to think, we had an encounter with 2 panga wielding twatwaffles 7:30 in the morning up Jan Phillips drive in Paarl mountain a couple of weeks ago. Gotta stay frosty wherever you are. But it does feel like Winelands has just exploded the last while with the homeless. I suspect the court order cleaning up the Cape Town cbd has resulted in the problem spreading to all the different areas.
