  1. Prize money and recognition for woman's sport has always been an issue. However the prize money does not encourage woman to enter and race, nor does the recognition. Examples that prove this are: 1.They offered to set up a Vets Woman's League in the Western Cape if they could get 20 entrants, i think there are 21 woman in total who entered league? there was prize money offered, but there weren't people interested. 2. WP champs, they awarded medals to all age categories (all racing in one group) and they only awarded positions acording to number of entrants in that age group, not where you came overall. So (for instance) they only awarded Gold and Silver in Elite, even though the 3rd Elite who came in was 4th overall and actually made more sense to award that position than to the only (can't remember which cat) person to race in that group??? I'm by no means saying that they mustn't reward the positions, i'm just saying that it's not a sure way to get the people to race. i wish that they awarded age categories, or made sure the woman raced separetly, or enforced the rules more stricktly, or just that there were more woman interested in racing. coming first out of 3 doesn't mean as much as coming first out of 200. It's something that we'll be fighting for til the end of time no doubt.
  2. SEEDING - for the elite and seeded riders has been allocated according to the Pedal Power Association seeding system and NOT by the race organizers. Thereafter riders were seeded according to the date that they entered. You need to speak to PPA to get into the elite group otherwise you're seeded according to when you entered!
  3. WOW' date=' what a surreal photo. Lucky fish you got a really fantastic pic of yourself here! Its awesome it belongs in some glossy mag.[/quote'] this is a really nice one!! Thanx Quintus
  4. I'm hovering on the fence at the mo - although, i have been spending alot more time with the new bike than on the road
  5. It's quite clear that Dark Horse has never raced, and has no idea about much! Like Speedplaya has said, Jennie has offered so much to our Cape Town ladies while racing the league. Women's racing is so negative, and Jennie comes in and blows everyone to shreads. You should see the response. Never before have so many local girls been heading off to coaches to improve. The league racing has been exciting and competitive. Let alone the Alpha Pharm series. With no team mates, Jennie can still come in and beat 3 pro teams. hmmm, yeh, you're right they shouldn't sponsor?? Seriously, deal with your issues else where. Oh and BTW Jennie raced here on her own accorde before AP offered her sponsorship after she won the Helrald in Feb.

Mother nature sure is intent to make things interesting for us for the first edition of this event! Our decision to press on is not taken lightly and we have carefully considered our options. Unlike other MTB events that take you off the beaten track, this event is very accessible and many of you will have supporters along the way - this is a unique situation and gives us the peace of mind that we are able to monitor the event's status at all times. We are also sure that cameraderie will prevail and that people will assist one another. For the seconds and supporters, pack enough warm clothing and blankets! Participants are also well aware of the forecast conditions and should know to arrive prepared. This is, afterall, an endurance event. We have uploaded updated information and maps (also some kml - google earth ) on to www.amarider.co.za Please read the info doc, it contains most of the information as well as directions to seconding points. Make sure you are prepared and carry enough sustainance with you to comfortably make the respective stations. Layers of clothing is the key and make sure you have a waterproof/windproof outer shell to guard against the wind chill. As the route heads northwest first we are hoping that the weather will help us a bit coming back home. Just to confirm that the start is at 07H00, cut-off at Riebeeck Kasteel is at 14H00, prizegiving is at 15H00 and the official cut-off is at 18H00. It is obvious that in case of adverse weather, our slower participants will be more affected, so please let us reserve the right to adjust cut-offs as conditions dictate. Make sure that you consume enough liquids and food to sustain energy levels and use the stations that we provide. All that is left is to say: Good luck and see you on the route regards Meurant and Arina
  10. Hey Ronelle, looking forward to seeing all the pics, was such a great event! Well done to everyone who competed!
  11. Sorry BMC I've been looking forward to this ride for ages - but I kinda don't want to get squashed by cars either.

  14. Is Lilo not doing the 4 passes then?
  15. Great pics Coetzee Saw you at the start of the ladies, did you get some nice pics there too?
  16. I'll be there - in plain clothes this time Miss K knows we're coming - they somehow got an email already...sneaky sneaky!! Hopefully some of my peeps will come with this time!!
  17. Glad you're both ok. Do you have the name of the other cyclist?
  18. Cyclists should not turn on other cyclists. Men should not hit women, and visa versa (before I get accused of reverse sexism) And we ALL must respect the rules of the road and stay alive. As someone said to me the other day "don't cry when a car hits you" if you are doing something wrong, expect to be called up for it. so what take it like a man/woman/person/alien. Accept responsibility for yourself and your actions.
  19. you know Mellow, i understand that men who post comments like this on the hub are just trying to get a reaction from the women on the hub. but really I think you are the kind of person who should learn to keep their mouth shut in situations like this. I bet you are standing on the sidelines supporting Chris Brown for Beating up Rihanna?? At no point did my friend say that she was innocent - she said she swore, and was not necessary doing so, but that does not mean that she deserve to have been slapped. She is not claiming to be the poor victim here, she is simply sharing her story. Unfortuantly this world is still run by small "minded" people like you, who don't give women the time of day. I really hope that you are never blessed with daughters or a loving wife who has to put up with your sexism. If you are, I feel desperatly sorry for her/them. Grow up.
  20. She couldn't really tell. apparently one was maybe yellow, and the other blue and white.
  21. I agree, as does my friend that swearing at someone isn't the right way to do things. And so what if the guys want to ride without lights in the dark. But you don't go around hitting people especially not a woman. I think this guy is a coward and deserves what ever he gets. the situation at the moment with deaths on the road, riding without lights is just silly, and putting other people's lives at risk by blocking their light is just not on. If you want to not be seen, that's your problem, don't cause other's not to be seen too though. Butthesickness, I feel sorry for you.
