  1. Now here is someone who knows what he is talking about.
  2. Well yes, those are minimum training required. I do however believe if you do those hours after a full IM you will be well prepared for Comrades. Having done a 12 hour race will count to your advantage over the guy who have done 4-5 hour max sessions..... Your body changes after 8 hours. How many Comrades athletes train for 8 hours or longer at once before race day?
  3. Thanks Ja I ditched the Comrades dream for now..... Will focus on Roth and then maybe next year do Comrades.....
  4. I go by the rule of whatever you wanna do on the day you must be able to do in a week. So really if you can run for 10 hours per week for say three weeks in a row (5 weeks before D-Day) then you will finish the race.....
  5. Well the thing for me is I am doing IM and Roth on 20 July. So Comrades will be smack bang in the middle. Might just as well scratch it off my bucket list. After Comrades I just cycle and do some speed work...
  6. IM will count as a seeding race if I am correct. I think however you have to go under 5 hours for your run. Well I am running 3 x marathons before IM so that should just about do it. Any advice on how I can get an entry into Comrades?
  7. Ok so IM is 6 April Comrades is 1 June That gives us 8 weeks. You rest 2 weeks after IM. You taper 2 weeks (not long runs) to Comrades. That gives us a 4 week window of opportunity to do these 2 x 55km runs and perhaps 3 x 120km weeks.......
  8. I am also considering doing this. Will have to find an entry first.
  9. Thanks see you there then
  10. How about some more info?? Route type.......... (75km - is it laps or one big loop?) Number of waterpoints and what will be available Prizes (lucky draw?) and what time will this be? Will I be allowed to go on the waterwurm afterwards (with my bike)
  11. The only sub 3 I am doing is to pass over (hopefully) Chapmans Peak in a Sub 3...........
  12. Ok I will definitely consider that thanks!
  13. Ok I will definitely consider that thanks!
  14. Ok I will only do 1 loop. Will run 30km on Sat though. How long is a loop around Clifton beach?
  15. The Garf will need something to get him back "onto heat" again after that cold swim.
  16. I like that. Put something back into the sport! Making a first timers day by helping them! We need more cyclists like you. By helping a first (and possibly a last timer) you may have changed his attitude considerably towards cyclists as he will be a driver for the next 30 years.
  17. Bottom line is we all need to respect one another. Only then can we expect motorists to respect us. If someone rides dangerously (roekeloos) that's something different all together. If you ride for a charity and start at the back whilst actually being a sub 3 hours rider then expect the road to be clogged all the time.
  18. Funny but I kind of agree with you. This is the Argus. 35,000 cyclists. Most people who start after 10 are not seasoned racers and this is a bucket list race so they don't necessarily understand the cycling etiquette / rules. I mean it is not as if it is written down and given to them beforehand. If you do a second loop you should not be nasty towards these guys no matter where they ride. Then rather ride the race once between the front groups/.
  19. The water is bloody cold there. And there are sharks. I will know on Monday if I am doing the Argus for sure.
  20. Well if I want to do it x 2 then I cant afford a puncture as I will probably be cutting the 10h30 group very close...
  21. Well.... lets ask them??
  22. Ok I am not too confident - too many things to worry about. Punctures etc. Let me ask this... Is there by any change a marathon on in Cape Town the 8th of April?
  23. Cool I also wanna do a 03h15. Hopefully I get a good seeding with my crappy Amashova time of 03h25. OFM I was enroute for a 02h50 until I had a mechanical with 10km left. Lets wait and see
  24. So will then need to start at 07h00. JGR will you guys be doing a long ride on the Saturday as well? (training for IM) Maybe I can rather do a 5 hour ride on Saturday and then just 1 x Argus...............
  25. Ok so I want to do this. If I drive up to Cape Town for the Argus I wanna make it count as I am also doing IM. Questions:- 1. Is it legal to do 2 x loops? 2. What is the latest I can start the second loop (when do they open the roads again) 3. Should I take my time chip off fro lap number 2? 4. How do I get onto the route again for the second loop? 5. What time do the last group go off at? Thanks
