  1. Cool I also wanna do a 03h15. Hopefully I get a good seeding with my crappy Amashova time of 03h25. OFM I was enroute for a 02h50 until I had a mechanical with 10km left. Lets wait and see
  2. So will then need to start at 07h00. JGR will you guys be doing a long ride on the Saturday as well? (training for IM) Maybe I can rather do a 5 hour ride on Saturday and then just 1 x Argus...............
  3. Ok so I want to do this. If I drive up to Cape Town for the Argus I wanna make it count as I am also doing IM. Questions:- 1. Is it legal to do 2 x loops? 2. What is the latest I can start the second loop (when do they open the roads again) 3. Should I take my time chip off fro lap number 2? 4. How do I get onto the route again for the second loop? 5. What time do the last group go off at? Thanks
  4. Indeed. I had to change my one shifter as you have to change the front gears carefully. Don't change when pedalling hard. These rings make you faster but also tire you out more as your legs was used to resting that split second when the deadspot would have been there. As all other things it makes a small difference. But that's TT for you. A few seconds here and there and suddenly you save 2-3 minutes per 30km!!
  5. I have them. They work for me. I dont have stats to back it up but for a TT rig they make a difference imho.
  6. Is it not the same thing??
  7. I have decided to include Mongoose! in my team as we need someone to carry all our stuff with as we will not do the support vehicle thingy.....
  8. Entered and paid.............
  9. Read the whole thread. As for the speed limitation --- what is the problem then?
  10. Uniondale karavaanpark??? At least the race starts late so we can afford to stay at another venue.
  11. Will enter tomorrow . I am doing an Ironman event at the end of July so I should have fitness and endurance. Will just maybe need to put TT bars on my MTB
  12. Saw that. I am assuming you can change names later? I am entering a team of 4 even though I don't know who is going with yet.... Will find people with the same fitness levels in July... I saw what happened when a team of 4 is finalized 8 months before an event. The okes are gatvol of one another by the time August arrives and some okes are a lot fitter than others which also leads to friction.... And if I can only find 2 or 3 then so be it. Rather not take someone than take an arsehole (aka roadie)
  13. Well as mentioned before we are allowed legally to ride on the N1 here in Bloem. There is a very good reason that we are allowed legally. It was discussed in detail and in the end the conclusion was that it is safer on the N1 than any other road around Bfn. Don't think these are just cyclists with no value for their lives who ride on the N1. I even went as far as to confirm with my broker that my life policies will indeed pay out should something happen on the "N1". Having said this, since that incident the other day (which was a total freak accident) I have not managed to get back on the N1 except to use it to get to another road for training...
  14. Ok regarding the "seconding vehicle". Can one do without it? Are we even allowed to ride without it? Can I for example ask that my light be left at waterpoint 5 and extra batteries at waterpoint 7? Can I drop off and pick up stuff at waterpoints like warm clothes?
  15. Look the problems with the "rural" roads are that firstly they don't have shoulders, are in a crap condition, and the cars driving there are in an even worse condition and they don't expect cyclists. The N1 has a big shoulder, the cars are in pretty good condition and people are more aware in general on the high way. Just don't ride there this time of the year.
  16. Wait for a day when the wind is 55km an hour. Go for a three hour ride at a place like kayalami (wide safe roads) or alternatively go ride on a landing strip at an airport. You will never have issues again riding in a 30km wind
  17. The N1 around Bfn is safer than the Cradle believe it or not. In the last 20 years there was 1 fatality (that I know of). I do however agree that it is dangerous this time of the year. I have to use it (or at least 5km of it) to get on the Dewetsdorp road which is the safest road around Bfn.....
  18. How is the route? Is it worth it in your opinion? What is the main reason people do this race? Is it because you can then say you have done it or is the scenery and route actually the main lure? If you add all the costs for the total trip you can almost enter a stage race event.
  19. I also had an awesome experience with them two weeks back.
  20. I see entries are open. They are asking R3,200 for a team of two and up to R3,800 for a team of 4. 450 teams allowed. So they entry fees should amount to between R1,5m - R1,7m. What is included with the entry fee? It seems only the race and water points. The route is not marked and you need your own support vehicle. Is this the going rate for a race of this nature. It will work you out around R7 per kilometre. Any comments from the guys who have done it last year?
  21. If we can declare or be all out by tea with a lead of 150 we will be well set. Indians will be tired after 2 days in the field. However Durban has shown that wickets tend to fall during the first 20 overs each day so dont be surprised if we fobt get a big lead. All up to Kallis. But even if we are bowled out for the same score there is only one team that can win from here and that is us. India can collapse. Of not they will only leave themselves 40 overs to bowl us out which is not enough
  22. So now we lose a bowling option and we now want to lose a batting option as well? Go count the proper batsmen and bowlers as the team was now and your proposition. Currently 6 batsmen and 4 bowlers (I don't count the spinner as a bowler) With this proposal it will be 5 and 3 (Kallis excluded and Thami included)
  23. Kallis is definitely a Batting all rounder. The past 4 years his bowling wasn't world class. They have a few options..... Replace Kallis with Elgar (shuffle Faf/Duminy to 4 maybe?). We really need more left handers in the team especially against Aus. This however could cause a shortage of bowling especially when our 3 front line bowlers don't fire or when we tour the subcontinent........... We really need a world class spinner.... We can bring in McLaren as a bowling all rounder but who do we then leave out? (currently I would leave Peterson / Tahir out) - but this will now put pressure on our overrates as we then don't have a spinner (I don't rate Duminy) The other option is to have Vern work really hard on his batting and then we choose 5 specialist bowlers.... I really dont see AB giving up the gloves at this stage. Thami too old and frankly not that good.... We have a few very real problems to sort out...... 1. Find a spinner (and a good one at that) 2. Find 2 world class openers (as Smith will also retire soon and Petersen is not the long term solution) 3. Find balance
  24. I agree that is ridiculous. BCCI are bullies.
  25. Now you are talking. I also have an idea that Dale and Vern said to one another "lets play safe and then take responsibility in Durban" Do not be surprised if both Vern and Steyn bowls really well as they blame themselves for the draw.
