  1. UPDATE: came across a 2009 Specialized Enduro for a decent price. In fact might even get it for cheaper than what the Commencal + a decent fork will set me back. I am in no rush though, but which would you go for and why?
  2. took a look - Teocali and Khyber both just over 11k plus neither are available in my size. I'd also be happy with a well priced / specced 2nd hand reign, but there don't seem to be any larges going at the mo'
  3. I'm thinking of getting myself a full-sus rig for trail / "all-mountain" use... something in the 140-160mm travel range for blasting through Contermanskloof, Jonkershoek, etc. I'm a fairly large dude - 6" and 108kg I don't really have a massive budget, and was hoping to come in at the 10 / 11k mark max I've stumbled across a Commencal Meta 5.5 for a decent price - I think it's the 07 model, not sure (it's the same model and colour as in the photo). This one has Avid Juicy 3 brakes (old versions) and what seems to be new X7 rear and front deraillers and shifters. Can't remember what cranks or wheels (DT Swiss X something or EX I dunno). Has a Rock Shox Monarch (I think) rear shock and Tora (yuk) forks I'll probably put my current wheels (Alex Rims Supra BH) on and look at upgrading the fork to a Rock Shox Sektor or Revelation (budget depending - air if I can afford it) with through axle (which means I'll need a new front hub as well - any suggestions?). If not I might look for a 2nd hand Marzocchi or any other 140mm travel fork I can find. What do you guys think? Is this the right bike for this type of riding? What else should I be looking at? 4. anyone "could" enter - it was last weekend
  5. I was there and rode the dual racing event - I had a lot of fun but I feel the event could have been better organised. The course wasn't exactly marked (common sense should tell you where to go though) and I heard many grumblings about the dirt jumps being too big or too far apart or without enough space to roll into. At one stage the dual racing guys and jump guys were sharing the track in practice. Not until just before the seeding runs started where the start gates and finish line even in place, and the whole event ran fairly late. Due to the small number of entries, rather than race in classes (I entered "fun" and not "open" for a reason) everyone was thrown together. It just seemed very casual and helter skelter. That said for R50 I had a ridiculous amount of fun. Also I think changing it from a DH race to an "all mountain" race at the last minute is a swak move - surely they knew in advance what courses and trails they had available? That said they DID keep their website well updated (and I noticed the change in event at least a day before the weekend kicked off). The layout was good - spur, pronto coffee, a beer tent - but it seemed to me the event was poorly attended, which is a shame! Anyone else got any feedback?
  6. haven't made any plans yet, but if you're planning to plan something, then i'll try plan to fall in with your plans
  7. this sounds fun, i'll see if i can rustle up a couple of guys...

    thought so, can't wait
  9. maybe we should organise an informal challenge one morning, get some guys together
  10. no no, i meant what have i done, as in (cue dramatic voice) "WHAT HAVE I DOOOONE?!?!?!" I'm sure you'll have no problem beating my time
  11. Sorry for my reaction, but I was one of the guys "complaining" hence me responding the way I did. My bad . I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is in incredibly bad taste to grab a "free ride" when someone else's money and sweat has gone into a project such as this. I also just responded to clarify that I'm not complaining, but simply offering feedback. what have i done?
  12. I put R50 in the honesty box this morning for myself and my mate, like a good boy. Name the date and I will gladly come swing a spade (in fact I have offered a couple of times to help out with Majik Forest maintenance but have not been taken up on my offer yet - I am not a club member though). I'm sorry to say, but it's a bit presumptious of you to assume that I neither paid my R25 nor am willing to help. Besides, no-one's complaining - this is just some constructive criticism, use it don't use it.
  13. I agree - a friend and I rode the track this morning. It was great fun for both me (coming from a XC / trail background) and him (coming from a dirt jump / DH background) but we both felt the track could be a bit longer, and could do with a couple of rollers and tabletops. something that can still be beginner, but can be advanced if you decide to send it. kudos to the guys for building a kick ass track though, i thoroughly enjoyed myself and will definitely be back. my best run was +- 35 seconds

Is that Contermanskloof where he gets stung? Nice to see SA represented, looking forward to the film!
  15. it is in the classifieds section, thought i'd have better luck here though
  16. no-one?
  17. pic from the latest newsletter
  18. Truvativ BooBar - 20mm rise, 780mm width. Only a couple of months old, still in good condition (haven't crashed with them!) just some marks where stuff was mounted (oviaas) Bloody nice bar for downhill / freeride / all mountain but I'm looking for an in-betweener width wise. Retail is in the region of R550-R600 as far as I know, so I think R450 is a fair price, no?

    661 gloves

don't know the price yet, but should be R300-ish I think?

    661 gloves

new 661 stock arriving soon at CWC, so I need to make my mind up! Raji 401 or Comp what to do, what to do?
  21. they DID outsource it according to Sarah's post. pity it's been deleted, that was a decent response

  23. Check it out: http://www.ratherberiding.co.za/mountain-bike-bling-renthals-duo-stem/ Basically it's a 2 piece CNC'd stem - top and bottom. More strength, less weight, maximum bling! I like
  24. They've clearly realised what a stuff up it is and have taken the results down... that link is to 2010's photos - was there before along with 2010's results before the new results were posted.
  25. 600 27km riders @ R130 / each = R78 000 200 55km riders @ R180 / each = R36 000 Total = R114 000 Maybe I'm just naive, but surely that's more than enough to put on a decent event? I can tell you this much - whoever answers the info@grandstandmanagement.com address must be having a terrible day!
