  1. Guys, looks like the Commencal's going to be going in for a respray - any suggestions as to the new colour?
  2. Attention trail / all-mountain riders - what bar width are you running? I switched to 780mm wide BooBars a little while ago. I found the control on the descents incredible but they felt a tiny bit akward while climbing. I am considering switching to the new Holzfellers (which are 730mm wide, going for 20mm rise) for a bit of weight saving and a bit less of an extreme width, but I have to say lately I've been getting used to climbing with the BooBars so now I'm 2nd guessing myself What bars and width are you running? What do you think, does 730mm sound like the perfect compromise?
  3. I'm very happy so far with my Commencal Meta 5.5. It's an '07 model, but I've read reviews from the '07s all the way to the newer ones praising it as an all-rounder, 1 reviewer even calling it a "downhill bike that's gone on a diet". I got mine for a steal and made some changes with some parts I had and some new parts. I haven't had tons of riding on it yet, but so far I am very happy with how it climbs and descends, and so far I've found the reviews and hype to be true There are also some '09 and '10 Commies on special AFAIK
  4. +1 the more detailed your ad, the better chance of a good response: size, condition, parts spec, photos, etc good luck with the sale!
  5. shucks, what can I say on the up side, she's going to start riding soon
  6. hey guys - sorry, first my PC and router got damaged by lightning, and then my laptop (which I started working on as a result) died, so I haven't been online at all! I won't be able to make Sunday, and baby #2 is due next week so I'm probably out for the next 4 weeks or so. Really sorry, I was looking forward to it but with all the PC crap it's been mad plus bike is in the shop too :(
  7. you have a point, never thought of that. I could probably pick up another one 2nd hand for less than the repair... duct tape and superglue it is for now
  8. Hey hubbers My new (2nd hand) bike came with a Specialized Saddle (don't know the model). I immediately swapped it for one of my saddles, but the other day tried it out on my hardtail and actually like it quite a bit. Problem is, it's popped a seem or two on the one side. My question: is it possible to / is there someone that repairs or recovers bicycle saddles? Any info would be appreciated.
  9. yeah, city rock. when my Vans die I'll try for some 5.10s that's going to take a while though. The pair I got has a slightly stiffer sole than most - pretty much perfect for riding...
  10. I would have bought 5.10s ages ago but for one thing - availability. the guys importing them couldn't give me a straight answer on when they'd have my size. not content to import myself (and pay duties, and hope they fit right) I simply bought a pair of Vans.
  11. Vans (waffle sole, gotta love it) and DMR V12s. Not as sticky as 5.10s but damn close. And yes, I use the "wipe your feet" technique when pedalling - you'll be amazed at how effective it is with the right shoes / pedals
  12. if it's really that easy to unclip then why do i see so many people falling over on the trails? on a side note - i had to laugh at myself last saturday at the greyton classic - a lady couldn't unclip in time and fell over in front of me, in the mud. i quietly thought to myself "snigger, see, clipless!" but then I started to topple over (as I had to stop quickly behind her, in the mud). i thought to myself "haha, i will have no problem, flats!" as i hopped off my bike and then my baggies hooked on my saddle and it was all over
  13. Yeah, it's an age-old debate, but I just stumbled across this podcast: http://mtbstrengthcoach.podbean.com/2009/11/20/flats-vs-clipless-pedals/ What's YOUR opinion? Think he has a point?
  14. maybe i should join in for sunday's shuttle, though i heard numbers are limited?
  15. i was hoping to do it in the morning but you're shuttling on sunday, aren't you? and didn't moretrails say he's only available next weekend?
  16. Alrighty - date for Nitida DS - next Sunday good for everyone??
  17. Here's mine, at last Commencal Meta 5.5 (2007) Rock Shox Monarch rear shock Rock Shox Sektor fork, coil u-turn 110-150mm, w/ 15mm through axle Giant 60mm stem Truvativ BooBars (20mm rise, 780mm width) Lizard Skins Peaty grips Truvativ Stylo cranks - currently being converted to 2 blade with Truvativ bash guard DMR V12 pedals Sram X7 front derailler Sram X7 rear derailler Sram X7 shifters Avid Juicy 5 brakes Alex SupraBH rims w/ DT Swiss spokes - tubeless Giant 15mm front hub / Formula rear hub Maxxiss High Roller UST 2.5 front / Kenda Nevegal UST 2.35 rear Ritchey 2-bolt seat post Fi'zi"k ZEA:K saddle Did the Greyton Classic 21km this weekend on it - was actually good fun!
  18. I think it's only fair that since it's an "all mountain" hook up, it should be AM / trail bikes ONLY - no cheating with hardtails
  19. Problem is, I don't think we can braai at Nitida, but nothing's stopping us from doing some runs and grabbing a brekkie or coffee afterwards Now for the when...?
  20. well, not so much a weird combo, just strange to see a burly coil shock on a trance. that caught my eye. kinda makes sense though. why o why can't we have regular superD events here speaking of which - who's up for a western cape all mountain show and tell / "meat" and greet? maybe we hit up nitida's DS course, or Dirtopia's 4x track or Contermanskloof or Tokai - have a lekker ride, drool over everyone's sexy bikes and slap a chop on the braai afterwards?
  21. yeah the fork / shock combo is what caught my eye. nice unusual custom build
  22. Adam Craig's Super-D / AM rig from last year, interesting setup: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/pro-bike-adam-craigs-giant-trance-x-advanced-sl-27012/
  23. what tyres does he use then?
  24. Minaar doesn't have to pedal up the hills
