  1. interesting, those laces (and the fact that the eyelets are covered) were one of the reasons I preferred the baron...
  2. Join me for a special order, you know you want to
  3. They don't have the 3 models I've posted. Dial'd have the Barons (red ones) in stock, but not in my size... Patches, what size are you? http://dialdbikes.co.za/fiveten.html Pittstop: all of those will match my bike
  4. No-one? Alrighty then... God willing, I'll be getting one of these need to make up my mind
  5. Hey guys, Dial'd bikes are being kind enough to order me a pair of 5.10s that aren't available in SA yet. If you're also looking for some 5.10s (models that aren't available on www.dialdbikes.co.za) please drop me a PM and let's see if we can give the guys a group order
  6. Interesting: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/First-Look-at-Scotts-2013-Genius-and-Gambler.html Scroll down the article to this part: Scot's elite-level trailbike is also all-new for 2013, and the big news, beyond the fact that the bike will not be sold with 26 inch wheels, is that Scott has abandoned its novel, three-chambered pull shock in favor of a lighter weight conventional air-sprung damper and a quite normal-looking rocker-link suspension. The carbon fiber and aluminum frame is offered in two models: the 150-millimeter-travel Genius 700 designed around 27.5 inch wheels and the 130-millimeter-travel Genius 900 designed specifically for 29 inch wheels.

  8. Yip either he got a good deal on purpose, or the salesman is so daft he sold him the better bike at the wrong price (score!) By your account the service is indeed shocking...
  9. Terrible service, but with Giant the smaller the number, the better the spec. So your buddy scored? http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/escape.2/8910/48614/ http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/escape.1/8910/48613/

  14. Chat to Dial'd Bikes - www.dialdbikes.co.za about a set of Nukeproof Generators. I think they'll be in your price range. They don't list them on the site, but they can get them for you. That's what I'm planning to do, I just don't have the cash now... the Nukeproof wheels look like a really good option... (also come in yellow and silver - see here: http://www.nukeproof.com/en/wheels-rims/generator-wheels)

  21. Rad - I think I should go along to one of those...
  22. Pardon my ignorance, but what is this "Critical Mass" you speak of?
  23. Here's the deal - I currently have Alex SupraBH rims on my bike - the front is paired to a 15mm Giant hub, and the rear to a crappy Formula hub, both with DTSwiss spokes. Both the rear rim and hub are on their last legs. I have settled on a set of Nukeproof wheels as a replacement wheel set... but considering I have no issues with the front hub, I am considering the following options: 1. Buy a complete Nukeproof wheel set - flog the existing wheels or keep as backup (probably won't get much for them) 2. Buy a complete rear wheel and a front rim - have the front rim built onto my existing hub 3. Buy a rear hub and rim, and a front rim - have the both wheels built up locally by a good builder, using existing front hub 4. OR just buy 2 hubs and 2 rims and have the whole wheelset built here I worked it out, and option 4 is a about R300 odd more than option 1, taking into account labour and spokes. So I'm wondering if it's worth it to have the wheels built up by a pro, rather than off the shelf? And options 2 and 3 will save me a couple of bucks too... Also the cool thing about nukeproof hubs is that you can buy kits to convert their 20mm front hubs to 15mm, and their 12mm rear hubs to QR. I currently run 15mm / QR, but at least I know I can buy a 20mm / 12mm setup now, use the converters, and should I get a new frame or fork I have more options.
