  1. But riding bicycles is life.
  2. piotter

    Why?

Unless all the components were also replaced, and the frame itself, and it hasn't gone on a single ride then merely replacing bearings with better ones does not qualify something as better than new. The bearings might be better, but the bike as a whole is not.
  3. Jokes aside. I will hopefully be able to ride the 2021 CTCT. Missed 2019 with shoulder fracture, missed 2020 with broken leg.
  4. Saying I’m very happy with the present situation because it caters to my needs is VERY different to saying they should only cater to my needs. That’s also quite a big in SA - if you’re not with me you’re against me mentality. It’s completely acceptable to be happy with the trail network as is and doesn’t mean you’re ignoring that other people have different needs.
  5. Got a moonboot this week so have started "walking" on it with crutches. Cycling unfortunately is months away. Haha it is quite weird hey. Yeah you never know when things can go wrong. Stupidly, my biggest falls - usually when doing something stupid, have lead to scrapes and bruises. It's the little innocuous falls - usually on flat ground or when going slow, that have led to my biggest injuries. The worst part really is then sitting on the sidelines for months at a time.
  6. So I've been avoiding the hub for the past month as I found it too depressing since currently being unable to ride my bike. To advocate that a trail doesn't have to be tech or graded black for people to hurt themselves, at the end of Jan I was climbing hillcrest red, was in the wrong gear, stalled, wanted to unclip and put my foot down before I fell over and well... pics below will tell the rest. But more to the point, I fully support that it would be nice to have a little more variety on the network. What we have is great and as has been said multiple times by the club and people hear - caters to the majority of members. Patrick has done a fantastic job building the trails, and personally, they probably peak at the the limit of my ability so I don't see myself doing anything more tech. But there are people that want to, there are youngsters coming up that will need to keep developing, so it would be nice if some of that was offered on our doorstep. And I also think people are sometimes to quick to jump at thermophage without actually reading his posts and then getting surprised by his response. Prime example, he posted about how committee members were approached to broach the subject and the feeling was that it should be brought up at the AGM, and then someone jumps in with it shouldn't be raised at the AGM and he should instead try approach the committee. And now those pics. Also big shout out to the team at Hillcrest who helped get me down to the ambulance and looked after my bicycle.
  7. I stand corrected, thanks for the clarification
  8. Haven't done a road race in ages, but isn't this just your typical PPA event where you use whatever seeded number you have with them if you're a member, otherwise a temp number? Things may have changed since I last participated.
  9. There's now 3 cycling stores essentially within a block of each other in that area. Haven't been to the new Giant store - didn't actually know it existed. Of the other two, there is one that I will avoid like the plague - a number of years ago they serviced my road bike (major service) shortly before CTCT. Never got any call that anything was out of the ordinary or any extra work was needed; came to get the bike, was in a rush so didn't really have a look at it, paid for the service and as I'm walking out - "oh btw, your frame is cracked and you probably shouldn't ride the bike". I couldn't prove it was their fault, but I'm pretty sure I would've noticed the sizable crack in my headtube. That wasn't really my issue with them though, my issue was how do you service a bike and take someone's money, and only afterwards tell the person that they probably shouldn't ride the bike. Lesson learnt
  10. Brian (BKXC) trialed these for a while sometime last year. Will try find the vids when he had them and link them.
  11. Ditto.. took a bit
  12. Ah yes, see I never see those lofty heights of points because I always have more than one thing out of range. They're coming to our offices in the first week of Feb so will get it done then.
  13. You missed the point where he implied he uses an HR monitor but his HR is too variable doing sprints. As for the second part.... NICE... I'm only on 7000
  14. Evening rides at Conties - may have gotten locked in
  15. None of my steps or activities are pulling through. My wife’s are but she’s not getting any points for them - just says “points not calculated yet”
  16. So I'm guessing since SCT was cancelled this race might get an increase in popularity, pay day will come for most before entries close.
  17. SMS came through now
  18. EDIT: Karman beat me to it and did a better job
  19. I just booked flights to Europe for my wife and I and saved roughly R4.5k on the price thanks to being Silver on Vitality (I had a broken shoulder and wife had numerous post cancer surgeries so our ability to get achieve higher on vitality was slightly limited otherwise would've been on a higher tier and saved more) If nothing else that justifies a whole year of paying for Vitality for me.
  20. Almost spat out my coffee Keto man, keto is life But in all seriousness, I'm a firm believer in eating whatever tastes good and eating it like you might never get a chance to eat again
  21. Offends me too. I have a white car and two Spaz bikes
  22. Same for me, hoping we get some kind of half decent group. EDIT - and I only say half decent because I can't keep up with fully decent
  23. Back on topic. This race will be my first return onto the road bike since July 2018. Got her all serviced and ready in September last year but somehow I always take the MTB out... Edit: Small milestone, but this was my 100th post
  24. Just some evening conties adventures Had some cows slowing me down, but we made friends
  25. When Santa does all his shopping in one place...
