  1. Best for me to let someone else enjoy it who otherwise would not
  2. Hi Chip, Kalahari Vegmot has first dibs. Should he not take it I will contact you.👍
  3. Hi chaps, not sure if this is the correct forum for this so maybe you can direct me to the correct place in that case. I have a Specialized Era Comp Carbon 26inch, bought in around 2012 as well as a bit of children's cycling kit (top, pants and helmets) that I would like to donate to anyone that needs it. Details about the kit: 2 pairs of pants (7-8 yrs and 9-10 yrs) Top (7-8 yrs) 2 x helmets as shown in pictures Details about the bike: Speacilized Carbon Comp Era - ladies medium frame The bike has been boxed up and hasn't been ridden in a few years so I am not 100% certain about the condition of it aside from the visible damage in the pictures. The pedals and saddle have been removed as these went onto other bikes. All notable damage is in the pictures, mainly the scratches to the cranks, derailleur, and cassette has seen better days. The back wheel needs replacing or fixing as shown in pictures. Please PM if you know where I should take the stuff to donate or if you yourself would like to collect it for a good cause. Please note I will not be taking any bits off the bike, it will go as a set as seen in the pictures. I am in Johannesburg South so that is where collection will be should you want the goodies. Also I don't want any of these bits sold on but rather donated and used. No Longer Available
  4. Thanks for the replies chaps. Seems Pirates and the one Scott recommended in Alberton will suit me best. ????
  5. Question for all you Joburg based runners. Next year I’m moving to Joburg from Cape Town and I’m looking to join a running club which does group runs during the week and has a nice social aspect as I’ve come to enjoy with my Cape Town club. So what club would you guys recommend - I will be staying in Johannesburg South but working in Sandton so I suppose I’m flexible on location. I have already contacted Alberton Athletic club already but they don’t seem to do club runs - only time trials during the week.
  6. Cape Town Marathon this past weekend! What a fantastic event, I almost forgot how much I missed mass events. The weather was superb for running and despite the cold and rainy conditions a surprisingly large number of supporters came out to add to the festivities! I actually really enjoyed the start procedure - it was nice having the batched starts as the field spread out very quickly and I didn't have to fight my way through crowds for 500m as I did in 2019. Also the mat to mat timing was a blessing as without it I would not have gone under 3:30. CT Marathon put on a good show, the number collection and covid testing was surprisingly efficient, although I heard there were some teething issues on the Friday. The expo was a bit dismal but I don't care much for expos anyways as I entered to run not to go shopping. The goodie bag was actually quite lekker and useful, it wasn't filled with a million items of cr*p from various sponsors - it contained a shirt which was far too small????, a water bottle, a bit of sun cream and a couple woolies snacks. I am already itching for next years event!
  7. Shoo that is gonna be warm for my first Comrades!
  8. Seems like it will be a massive undertaking to test close to 12 000 people and I’m not sure how runners will be kept covid compliant at water tables but hopefully they can get it done. I am really hoping it goes ahead - it will be awesome to run a race again surrounded by people.
  9. Hi chaps. Can anyone recommend a good sports massage therapist in the Johannesburg South area? I typically go to Sports Science in CT but I’m in Joburg for a couple weeks for work.
  10. Anyone know if the running thread was also culled? It was under multi-sport which I now see is just all the previous chit chat threads so I can’t seem to find it. if it is gone does anyone have any other suggestions for a platform to discuss all things running related?
  11. Hey B-rad, do you have a pair and what sort of distance have they done? I'm finding mine super comfortable and I am tempted to use them on my LSD runs - I'm just not sure what sort of mileage I can expect out of them and don't want to waste them if they only good for a couple 300/400km
  12. Check the Saucony Endorphin Speeds out - I got a pair last week and can already comfortably say they are my favourite shoe in my current rotation, which includes a pair of Zoom Flys, Vaporflys and Pegasus. I'm really hoping they last as they are on the pricey side and I don't see myself not getting another pair when these are retired!
  13. These are also my favourite training shoes Nike has ever made. My current ones are on 850km - they still feel alright although they not as comfortable or as springy as they once were, I reckon I’ll squeeze another couple hundred km out of them. I picked them up from the Nike Factory store for R800. Whenever I’m near the store I pop in and look for a pair, unfortunately I haven’t seen anything for over a year.
  14. I’m not at all trying to be divisive and agree technology causes advances Which are inherently good, as mentioned carbon plated shoes and GPS watches have done the same thing and caused the same debate. I’m just interested to hear everyone’s opinions on the whole technology debacle and where they think the line is drawn with regards where it becomes the athlete or the shoes. For example I’m not a particularly talented runner and got myself a pair of Nike Vaporflys to see what all the hype was about. The following weekend I ran a 5 minute PB for a half marathon and didn’t feel any fitter or faster than previous runs. Maybe it was the placebo effect or maybe it was the shoes but I tend towards saying the shoes were the reason I ran faster not my own ability.
  15. No doubt Joshua Cheptegei is going to be one the greatest distance runners and not to take away anything from his effort but I don’t agree with having the lights alongside the track pacing the runners. It completely takes away the individual runners skill to pace himself and must make their life far easier. Where do we draw the line to say a record was broken by an athletes ability as opposed to advances in technology? Edit: to me this is similar to Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59 where it was not considered an official record due to amongst other things having pacers switching out and a lead pace car so he could be perfectly paced for the entire effort. Why should the pace lights be any different?
  16. I forgot to check if was inclusive of sales tax. It’s good to see they as expensive in Europe as they are in SA, it will make me feel a bit better if I do buy them.
  17. I was hoping they would be a bit cheaper, especially the speed with is going for 3.5k. In the US the Speeds are $160 which is around R2800 even with our wonderful exchange rate.
  18. Thanks Shaper. Hopefully they in stores quite soon as I can’t bring myself to buy any pair of shoes before trying them.
  19. Hi guys, Does anyone know where I can get a pair of Nike Zoom Fly 3’s or flyknits in Johannesburg? My current pair of flyknits are nearing the end of their life and I’m having no luck finding another pair at the Nike Factory store, sweat shop or sportsmans warehouse.
  20. Thanks Patches, I based my assumption that the Yamahas were cheaper based on the 2 strokes. Which would make sense because the Yamaha 2 strokes still have 2006 tech in them. ????
  21. Yip as I understand it that will be the price of the bike in stock trim. I have chatted to a KTM dealer regarding their pricing and have heard why KTM is so competitively priced in SA. Apparently the SA market is very important to KTM as we produce high quality off-road riders and in general the riding conditions are tough on the bike. So if KTM has the market share in the South African market the bike is seeing as being built strong. That being said despite KTM's being competitively priced, the offroad Yamahas are generally cheaper than the equivalent KTM...so why is the T700 less competitively priced than the rest of the Yamaha range?
  22. I saw today Yamaha South Africa said the T7 will be around the 200k mark. That from a bike described as “a big dirt bike” I think they’ve well out-priced themselves with this one considering you can get a KTM790 Adventure R at that price point. I think it could have been a great bike in the South African market if it was priced correctly.
  23. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/406031/giant-propel-advanced-with-mavic-wheels Maybe this could be the starting bike I was waiting for...what are the chances? It seems like a good aero design, the reviews I’ve read online seem pretty good as well and they rate the bike as good value for money. The deep section wheels and the tri seat are a bonus - so it will probably just need tri bars. I guess I could be getting into triathlons sooner than I thought...
  24. Thanks for the replies everyone. Both opinions definitely have their merits. I'm in no hurry to start cracking on Triathlons so I will wait patiently for a bike that "speaks" to me to pop up on the hub. Rougemeister, I think you're right about getting a cheap tri-bike now and then wanting to upgrade it before IM. So the way forward for me will probably be a cheapish road bike with clip on tri-bars for a year or two until I do the full IM...I went from wanting one bike to wanting two in the last 5 hours I also completely forgot that I wouldn't be able to do any road events on the tri-bike. So, an added benefit of the road bike would also be being able to do road events in the interim which will be good training for the cycle leg.
  25. Hi guys, I'm looking for a bit of advice. Sorry if the question has been asked before but I didn't want to sift through 115 pages and I couldn't narrow down my search enough. So here it goes - I want to get into Triathlons at some stage, my ultimate goal would be a full Ironman as it is on my list of things to do. I currently mountain bike and run a bit, however, I don't even own a road bike and have never been too interested in riding on the road if I'm totally honest. So in terms of doing a full ironman should I just look at purchasing a normal road bike to do training and the IM on? or does a full Tri bike make such a difference that its worth just buying the tri-bike and training and racing on it? I will probably look at getting a bike second hand off the hub as like I said, I am not too interested in road riding so I don't want to invest too heavily in it. I would also like to come in with a good finish if that makes a difference to my situation, somewhere around 12:30 would be my goal. Many thanks
