Spot on Short Legs! I think you will fall on your back when you see PPA's finances. Shameful that they profess not to want to be involved in so called racing and are only interested in revenue creating fun rides.....no chance of developing the racing component of the sport. Why not give it to another body? Money and politics, that's why! Of course the current legal matter with CSA compounds matters.
  3. Just order 12x142 conversion kit from your local store. I've done it
  4. This was Billy Stelling 26" Bulls hardtail with proper knobblies (not semi-slicks). Time 2h55 from VB
  5. Thanks for you that have offered constructive advice. For the record I have tried everything to obtain information on the "culprit" without success. The Hout Bay police have told me that I should wait as it's likely that he will claim from his insurance and would therefore have to report the accident at his local police station to get a AR number. That station then sends it back to Hout Bay, where it happened. So far no AR forthcoming and it's almost a month! By the way, what happens if he was intoxicated, wants to claim and goes to his local police station and says he lost control of his machine elsewhere .......to prevent questions being asked? Buggered!!
  6. This post refers: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=27505&KW=suikerbossie I was the unfortunate cyclist involved. A motorbike hit me from behind whilst cycling up Suikerbossie (Victoria rd) Hout Bay on Sunday 8th June. The course of events was as follows: About 7 motorbikes (I'm lead to believe) were riding up Suikerbossie when one of them lost control because of a flat tyre. The bike slid out from under him which in turn hit me. I was at the wrong place at the wrong time (well within the yellow line). It was just a freak accident. My bike was totalled; rear wheel shattered on impact and I sustained fractures of both my shoulders (scapula) and major brusing. I was very lucky as it could have been a lot worse! I am well on the mend and will start physio on my left shoulder & arm (the worst break) next week. No spine or head injury (thanks helmet). Anyway to cut a long story short, the reason for this post is that I have also now experienced first hand the apathy and shoddy work that our SAPS give us as citizens......... At the scene of the accident there were, apart from an ambulance, fire rescue, NSRI (?) and tow away vehicles and 2, yes 2 police vehicles. I was of course told this afterwards as I was imobilised at the time. Our friends in blue then enquired from someone at the scene what had happened and were told that "a cyclist came off his bike" and promptly decided that statements and an accident report was not required. The fact that my beautiful Spec Tarmac SL was a crumpled mess and I had hospital injuries which could not be sustained by falling off (up hill!) as well as the fact that the motorbike had to be removed by a bakkie did not raise any questions! Well the long and the short of it is that I currently don't have a clue who the biker is and can therefore not institute a claim of any sort. I would greatly appreciate it if anybody can assist as a witness or passer by who may have taken down details etc. I know the chances are remote... Thanks.
  7. Nope. Don't think so........first pic was MTB legend Bart Brenjins
  8. GL the PPA is a law unto themselves............I see they've now called a special general meeting to vote whether they stay affiliated to CSA or not!.....not sure what that's about? They don't provide a reason why rolling road closure can't be TRIED for Saturdays Elites race. Why? You and Ian have made a concerted effort to try and assist. They are not even attempting to be proactive. I say stuff them.......start a rebel league for the racers and lets organise more well organised RACES not funrides like the TdB. GL for president!!! PS. I concur with your sentiments about a rider falling victim to a nasty accident. Only a matter of time before we wear a little black ribbon.....

  11. I'm still convinced, per my previous post that rolling closures for the racing bunches is the way to go. Can anyone offer information regarding the cost (not a ridiculous thumbsuck previously mention by someone) of rolling road closer per racing group in each province? Currently in WP there is a Metro police car upfront (not sure if it's for the full duration) and the Comm at the rear. Maybe only 1 x extra cop car is required? Does this cost an arm and a leg (no pun intended)? Maybe an annual levy can be added to club/CSA fees? Maybe armed with this info a debate can be opened with PPA etc? PS. I say again.......in the Burger on Sunday the VA bunch was escorted by a Metro cop car on the R44, literally in the oncoming lane with lights & sirens in full force, forcing traffic off the road, creating a safe environment for the leading bunch to race. Worked like a charm!!
