  1. i was jus sitting thinking, in a normal patch kit you get the glue, the patches, and a little metal thing to ruffen the tube, but what are those little ruber tube thingies for, have always seen them in the kits but have never used them? anyone know what they are meant for?
  2. wow they have some really nice bikes, but unfortunitally what i'd be able to afford from them wouldn't be so great once adding on all the costs, they charge 400 euro just to post the bike to S.A
  3. hi Pom1 i would love to do that, but the spark 35 would be a bit out of my price range, after vat an import duties would cost me about 24,000 only have 15,000. taken a look at their other bikes and not really that much of a price difference once you've added 14% vat and 15% duties to that of LBS.
  4. well, i'd really like to own one of those one day when i win the lotto lol, but for the moment i've only got 15k for a whole bike, cant exactly do a race running the route with a frame on my shoulder lol
  5. well just by looking at that picture i'd say that bike costs about R50,000 if not more? or am i completely wrong Kieran
  6. ok cool thanks for the help will definetly give him shout sometime
  7. thanks for the reply vivster will give those 2 bikes a look.
  8. hi guys i'm thinking of upgrading my mounting bike when the new 2011 bikes come in, as NONE of the suppliers have bikes in XL left, have tried them all lol, so will just have to stick it out on my GT avalanche for now, i'm not sure if i should get a good spec hardtail or i silghtly less spec soft tail, here are pics of the bikes i've listed above. and if you maybe suggest something else i havent looked at please let me know, i have about 15,000 to spend on a bike. which is why i was thinking of maybe some of the less expensive bikes with a polar RS800CX bike. i dont know which is why i'm asking you guys what you think. here is the HFS100D and here is the silverback seirra and here is the 120 TFS 700D here is the giant trance X4 and lastly bu not least the Giant XTC 3brad8902010-06-07 10:16:58
  9. i agree with some of the posts in this forum, it would be pretty cool to meet some of the guys from the hub especially some of the guys with really high post counts, i myself am a newbie to the hubs, or should i say the sport lol, am loving mountian biking, did the 80km lionman as my first race this year and loved every moment of it, it was pretty funny was acutally thinking while riding how many guys i was passing or being passed by were on the hub lol, must admit though the attitude of people who do mountain biking is really awsum, i find people to be friendly, and unstuck up, i had quite a laugh and joke with some of the people on the race. thumbs up to all you mountain biker out there (sorry roadies i haven't had anything to do with the whole road thing, but sure you guys are also a stand up bunch of guys) brad8902010-06-06 05:33:59
  10. man that makes me wish i was sitting and waiting for the guy who stole my bike with pepper spray and a paintball gun lol. but to be honest i think i might have added a few kicks to the ribs aswell just to make sure the guy thinks twice before steeling a bike. lol
  11. well i'd maybe suggest a cycle computer, they are pretty nice for training and races so you can check how you are doing and how far to go still etc, if you dont have one already. i've just bought one recently myself from sampie here on the hub, and i must say its a pretty decent one, its wireless which is nice so you dont have wires running everywhere and getting tangled etc. and it was a pleasure getting it through sampie. here is the web address if you want to check them out https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=77696 oh as well solomons is really good with their prices, especially for people on a tight buget, like me who is a student lol, and dont be shy to try your luck asking for a discount, i've got money off a few time on certain things lol.
  12. ok cool thanks for the help guys really appreaciate it.
  13. ha ha ha lol looks pretty pimp, but i'm a student so will probably go with the standard ones lol
  14. i'm guessing race king back and mountain king front?
  15. ok cool thanks for the help really appreaciate it, think i'm going to get a pair then
  16. hi gummibear sorry for the hijack, but i just want to find out what these tires are like, at the moment i have a set of mixxis larsens and am going to need new tires pretty soon. how well do these work as race tires, i found the larsens weren't so good on the rockey sections but were really good on the hard pack. so how do you find these on hard ground roads ect and on rocky loose sections. thanks Brad
  17. hey johan thanks for the reply so what your saying is that there is no way the package should get detained by customs, because i'm thinking of bringing in a new fork, headset, tires and maybe wheel set. thanks for your help
  18. hi guys i was wondering if someone could help me out with this question i've got, and i know there are allot if import duty posts and stuff. but what i want to know is, say i order a bunch of stuff form crc and it get here and its held at customs say in JHB, do i have to pay a clearing agent to clear it or can i go down to where ever the place is and clear it myself? or does one need to be registered and stuff to do that? thanks Brad
  19. just out of interest, say my stuff got detained in JHB form CRC would i have to get a clearing agent, or would i be able to go down to where ever and sort it out myself? or are you required to register to do that kind of stuff?
  20. well here goes, have tried pretty much all the bicycle stores in PTA, and here is what i've found. montana cycles are absolutely useless, have good prices, but this passed weekend bought some rimes there, got home to find one had too many holes needed 32 and had 36, so went back and asked if they could swap it for me, they told me they didn't have stock and werent gonna order for me, just like that blugently to my face? so just got a refund. then there is cycle house somewhere in pretoria north, bought a entry level scott from them bout a year and a half ago, and the aftersale service was ....... to put it short, they were not at all interested, seemed to have that attitude am a monor client so what ever. have however had good service from karsten cycles, the young guys arent so great but still helpfull, and the manager however i give a 10/10 friendly helpfull and down to the point. solomons is also not to bad, guys are helpfull and willing to source down stuff you are looking for. but then again these are my experiences, other people might have different experiences, this is only my opinion
  21. BumpNgrind what clearing fee do they charge at the post office, am thinking of bringing some stuff myself.
  22. well i can tell you who not to use, don't got to montana cycles, had a mate go their and got his bike serviced and gears set, i ended up setting them for his again so wouldn't suggest them, maybe give karsten cycles down zambezi a go, i find them very frindly and helpfull, havent had any work done there though so dont know to much bout their mechanics, but i'd rather go to a place with friendly service and people than a place with slightly better mechanics and a crap attitude towards their clients
  23. i've also been having problems with indexing and today got gatvol, went to the LBS got new cables and housings as well as new jockey wheels as they had quite a bit of play, when i removed the old cables couldint belive the junk that came out of the old housing, the dirt had basically caked up inside a bit of the housing so no wonder shifting wasn't so great, re did the housing as continuous cabling, and man what a difference, shifting like a dream now. so if you haven't changed your housings maybe give that a shot. i mean it cost me 50 bucks for 2m housing, which would be a really cheap fix compaired to getting a new derailer or shifters.
  24. Hi guys was wondering if anyone could tell me if its possible to upgrade from a power spline BB which looks like this to a external BB that looks like this without actually having to replace the crankset as well? thanks Brad
  25. well from my understanding it should rather look like this, with the strip making a seal with the tire not the tire sealing against the rim if you know what i mean, or at least thats the principle with the ghetto conversion
