  1. Just sitting in front of the computer board and was browsing news24 and found this so thought i'd stir this kettle of fish again http://www.health24.com/fitness/FitnessDoc_articles/16-4596,60576.asp and here is a little abstract or two i found funny lol "Of course, when you have paid R500, the equivalent of $70 for a piece of plastic, then you're more invested in the band than you probably want to realise. The pricing is in fact an important part of the overall marketing strategy - you don't promise such amazing benefits and then charge only $10 for them. The more people pay, the more "effective" the band will be, and the more vociferously they will defend it, regardless of whether your advertising promise is true or not." "Science will tell you that you could just as well put a pink ribbon in your hair before you train and achieve the same result, provided you spend enough money on it to believe that it works. Of course, if I designed an impressive website and wore a white lab-coat and staked my scientific reputation on its effectiveness, then it would help even more." Popcorn Is in the microwave for those interested so let the fun begin
  2. Try contact the guys at zululand cycles in richards bay. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to put you in contact with the right people. I don't know their number but am sure you'll find it if you google it on the web
  3. anyone in one of these area's do mountain biking? am home for the holidays would be nice to do some rides with other people rather than just solo rides like i have been doing, am here till about 15 december, saw 2 guys along the north bank road along the umfolozi river yesterday dont know if they are hubbers but its worth a try, if you guys are on here give me a shout and we can maybe join up for a ride sometime.
  4. id say take the MTB, i live in mtuba and that road that was spoken about above would be very dangerous with a road bike as it really narrow with lots of blind rises and dips. speak to the guys at the cape vidal gate, they might let you cycle along the roads in the reserve.
  5. As always thanks for the good reply Johan :-) was hoping you were going to post something lol as that bearing story was bugging me lol, serviced my xt's the other day for the first time (have done it on my previous bikes before) and after putting the bearings back got to the otherside and was bafuzeled that there was 2 bearings missing as i was pretty carefull when taking them out etc, never mind that I'd added a extra one to the otherside lol
  6. I'm pretty sure you need a 13 and 17 for the front hub and a 15 and 17 for the rear. I could be wrong that's just what I seem to recall lol
  7. Well speaking about guys doing silly things on the way to one of the voriberg mountainbike races saw. Thes guys cycling next to each other basically on the yellow line allong the N14!!! Come on guys those cars are coming passed at 120 if one of them so much as clips you with his mirror because the driver wasn't concentrating and cant quite judge the other side of their car your tickets as well as probably a bunch of your cycling buddies
  8. Sorry to hijack your thread Palaeodomn but thought rather then starting a new thread on xt wheels, Just serviced mine yesterday and noticed that the tech documents say there should be 10 3/16 ball bearings in the front hub for each side, but 11 fit comfortably without bulging? Any bearing gurus out there is it better to have the bearings close to each other? Or is there supposed to be a space equivalent to a additional ball bearing?
  9. And the hub to the rescue again. Thanks guys for all the tips and advice, its wat makes this such an awsum site
  10. Thanks for the advise lounge lizard, think I'll give the car patch a go and hopefully that works. Otherwise then I'll try the knotted plug Because man I'm bummed the tire isn't even 400km old.
  11. HELP lol I was riding along one of our wonderfully glass bottle laiden roads the other day and went over a glass bottle which resulted in my almost brand new tubeless tire going flat in seconds, I tried to use one of those car tire plugs, but the hole or should a say cut is just just to big, and the pressure inside the tire slooooowly pushes the plug out:-( I've done a little suture work on it with a needle and fishing line but that's not going to last very long seems as its the part of the tire in contact with the ground. Is there some kind of solution to this that anyones had some success with? In maybe patching the tire from the inside to prevent air leaking out? Or am I just going to have to use my tubeless tire with a tube:-(
  12. Lol just goes to show you how different people have different experiences lol. Not wanting to cause a barnie sammamoor lol. But i've had terrible service from cycle house and will never put a foot back in there lol. And good from karsten lol. Am guessing its just luck of the draw really lol... Best solution i think is to service your own stuff that way you've only got yourself 2 blame and you'll no how much time and effort you've put into to service lol. So if somethin goes wrong you are the only 1 to blame
  13. For fitment in Pretoria i'd go to karsten cycles down zambezi. Petrie does the fitment had it done myself and was really happy with the service. The staff were friendly polite and helpfull. And as far as i can tell a good set up was done? Had the bike put on the trainer had the seat adjusted, cleats set, knee angles checked etc... Just phone in advance though to make sure Petrie is there, because he does the set ups...
  14. Sorry for the hijack gerhardc. But hamster dog. Which bike shop you at in durban and what is your guys price per meter colour housing?
  15. thanks for the info kosmonooit, really appreciate it
  16. i'm probably posting this in the wrong section but what the heck lol, no one would be able to tell me where to look for mountain bike events happening in KZN over the december/january peroid? am going to be in KZN for the varsity holiday and would maybe like to do an event or two if possible. thanks for any help Brad
  17. does anybody know if any of the bike shops in pretoria do that whole saddle measurement story where they measure your tuber ischiadica using that ass-o-meter thingy to tell you which saddle width you should be using? thanks
  18. well i've been using tennis racket overgrips (gips without the sticky stuff on the back), and they seem to last pretty well have been riding mine for about 4 months now no problem, and the added bonus is you can choose what ever colour you want to match your bike lol if you've colour codede your bike. and at about R15 from mr price sport not a bad solution even if you have to change it every 5 or so months. just a note start wrapping it from the back towards to front of your bike that should keep the dirt out better than if you do it from the other side
  19. Sorry for the hi jack werner.. Was wondering if there are any spez dealers in Pretoria that have sit-o-meter thing to measure the distance between your tuber ischiadica (sit bones). Because been through a few saddles now but cant quite get one thats comfortable, and am tired on spending money on saddles i buy use for a month or two then move on to the next Due to comfort issues lol
  20. I'm telling you guys frontline is the best solution and will defently last the durartion of you ride till you shower and wash it off
  21. Try using frontline spray, give one or two quirts on your legs and you'll be sorted, I personally use it all the time, help quite a bit with wildlife game capture and with the frontline have no problems with ticks and tickbites.
  22. well it basically boils down to a thing called natural selection? and a question we need to ask ourselves, "do we really want those peoples genetics in our population" lol if a two people want to ride side by side next to each other on a narrow road ( mountainbiker or roadie) let them, because nothing will change their mindset, so just let nature takes its course and remove their genetics from the population. LOL ok but in all seriousness now, come on guys lets not ride side by side on narrow roads, me as a mountainbiker (in a car) seriously doesn't mind sharing the road with roadies, just dont be silly when there is no yellow lane and its a single lane both ways.
  23. Don't worry your not the only one, have a pair of half jackets, the coating on the insode of the lenses is starting to peal off but in their defence the glasses are old. But every dealer I've been to so far has told me they can't help? And when trying to get hold of oakley SA can never get through on their lines? Anyone know who else I could contact with regards to this and possibly a store the would be willing to help in PTA lol
  24. Ok calling all tech guru's out there lol. I'm wanting to service my fox f32 fork, have got the oil and everything I need, except for fox float fluid for the foam rings in the dust seals, does one have to use special fluid here or can one use the fork oil to re-lube these? Or is there an alternative one can use? Thanks for any help Brad
  25. Sorry to hack your thread. Stewie911 where did you buy the goodridge housing, am wanting to go continuous myself
