It's understandable that some people are cancelling there trip to Cape Town but surely the whole weekend is not just about the tour alone. Accomodation and flights are booked, come down anyway, enjoy the weekend, shake hands with a fireman and some other volunteers.

Cancel the race and give entrants a choice for a refund or to donate their fee to Firefighter trust or intended charity. All flights can be refunded as the airlines can go fly a kite especially SAA for how they treat their customers regarding the Dubai fee fiasco. Which ever way this tragedy is a huge loss for everyone. I agree with the sentiment that we would just be seen as insensitive if the event goes ahead. A plus for all cyclists would be a massive image boost in the eyes of general public.

Any detour will be over OKW and back on the M3. OKW will definitely spice things up in terms of a long climb as it is 6.6km Cat 3 with avg 4.3%. The wind will be interesting as a SE over 30kph is predicted. With a possible South Easter over next few days the fire might turn back to Hout Bay and burn itself out.
