  1. Managed to get a solo entry but very overweight and unfit so I am going to have to get my A into G. (Lost 10kg already so on the way)!
  2. I need to have a set if MTB wheels built - based in CT but JHB builders can also work out. Who do you suggest?
  3. I see a few FC riders adding images to FBI during the race, but I thought cellphones were not allowed or have the rules been updated?
  4. Cool, still got GreyOwl 2.0 (is he still around?) Blue BMC so hope no-one expects me to ride like him
  5. Ok, so we'll have to do LSSD then - that's steady AND slow !!!
  6. I'm talking about on a flat route !!!
  7. Looking to join a club or group for MTB rides in Gauteng. Both wife and I are relative newbies to MTB so eager to learn as well. Any suggestions etc
  8. Anyone know of groups doing LSD rides on Sat mornings or Sunday afternoons (Pace about 23-25km/hr avg). Looking to get back into riding and lose weight again since moving to JHB. I stay in Edenvale but will travel anywhere in Gauteng for a decent group in a safe environment. BTW are the roadworks finished in the Cradle "loop"?
  9. Well this is the last year I try for sure! ( I get the message now )
  10. I thought the non-stop was not happening this time around?
  11. Also my third or fourth year of trying and will probably be my last. At least I am now waitlisted at A15 so maybe this year ...
  12. I'm on Wait-A15 Team "Panic Attack"
  13. Never done the Sani2C and have been trying for 3 years to get an entry - about to give up and call it a bad idea I see that I can now only apply on 30 August IF the 650 entries have not been filled!!!
  14. (Cut quote short to avoid a long post ) Thx, I see there wasa a relatively strong view in favour of a Ti HT in the past as well.
  15. that's an absolute bargain!!!!
  16. Ok, thx. Do the guys use suspension seat posts on their HT's or just standard?
  17. Having browsed the FC site forum I noticed that most of the competitors seem to favor a simple Hard Tail MTB with simple v-brake system over an expensive dual suspension MTB. Surely the Cape Epic (and others) have proven that a good dual-sus is just as reliable but has the added benefit of greater comfort etc which will no doubt improve performance. I understand that the "races" are two different animals but I am still very suprised at the percieved lack of reliability of a dual sus for the Freedom Challenge. Or am I missing something?
  18. Thx Mecnic. Even though I have chosen the Ellsworth, I am looking at an Anthem for my wife so your input is interesting and informative.
  19. Had my heart settled on one of the few Spez Stumpjumpers for sale until I saw the Ellsworth Truth for sale and that was that !!! Although the Spez are very pretty and look relatively unused, and the Truth has been used for it's intended purpose; the spec and overall quality of the Ellsworth won me over. Will collect early next week - can't wait!!!
  20. thx Crow
  21. Very cool bike but waaaaaaaay too few pictures!!!
  22. Hannes, thx for the detailed and interesting reply. Much appreciated!!
  23. I would love a Morewood Zula but need some help to spec one at a reasonable price I've been hibernating since moving to Gauteng - life's been way too hectic with no cycling in 3 years either. Anyway, I think MTB is the way to go for my current situation.
  24. There seem to be quite a few decent Anthems and Stumpjumpers for sale. As a general purpose MTB with the view to do the odd stage race but also have a bit of fun on single track - which would you advise. Also any other alternatives to consider?
