  1. I have this 'problem' (if I can call it that). I won a Holdfast 2 bicycle carrier that clamps onto the tow ball (like the Thule) this last weekend at a cycle race..... that isn't my problem. My problem is that I already have two bicycle carriers already - the old school Holdfast one that slots into a plate bolted to the tow bar (bikes are hanging - 3 bike rack), and then a home made one that mimics the Thule ride-on but I have put arms to clamp onto the top tube of the bikes - also 3 bike rack. My problem is that I have a Bantam or VW Chico to use for transport. The 3 bike rack is brilliant on the back of the Bantam but it can only really take two people....... Chico is great for 4 people but doesn't have a tow bar so that ends the idea. I was looking at trading the clamp on for a hatch / boot mount option in the Holdfast range, but I want to know what the experience is on these racks - looking at the 3 bike version and it'll transport road bikes and MTB's on the odd occasion. I was told that the hatch version works OK for 3 road bikes but better for 2 MTB's rather. I have this one: http://www.holdfast.co.za/app/webroot/uploads/images/b90cb948ea7771c94e7f6132477aeb51.jpg Want to trade for this one: http://www.holdfast.co.za/app/webroot/uploads/images/5713722fea861d53e318277395ee1170.jpg
  2. Dude, here is your niche market to cyclists (hubbers).... Get discounted tools from a local supplier
  3. Spokes too tight coupled with aluminum fatigue. Edit: had that start happening to my back wheel and I replaced the rim. Edit 2; this happens over time, not just from straightening and a month later this happening.
  4. Marketing ploy! I thought that this was an effort to get guys aware of the comp, not to just vote for one specific T.....

I go to the point of carrying a 500ml bottle instead of a 750ml bottle if I can save the weight and don't need as much liquids in the 2nd bottle

I weigh in at 95Kg's and pump my Schwalbe Ultremo ZX's to 9 bar (max is 10 bar I think). Ride what you are used to. Changing spec makes handling minimally different but can take away confidence in cornering - well that is all in my opinion. Stick to what you know is all I can say. The roads are fairly bumpy around here too hey.

You two crack me up!
  8. Do you have to be at the Crit to win the prize or is that just a place to have the draw - there or not?
  9. That is what I said until I started using chamois cream - the joys of having a chamois fit snug to your body without causing any form of chafe/ hot spots
  10. Chamois cream? Does help a lot!
  11. Problem is I keep forgetting
  12. Claims can be disproved - ask my Rudy's - they will scratch but not break. BUT saying that, they scratched relatively little compared to the abuse I have given them. I have the Rudy Noyz - prefer the shape
  13. WTF! Tjop I say! You would have loved the ride with the official tandem group. We caught them going past the Prison on the way to Boyes and they sat with for the wind protection - some sat with us up until Ou Kaaps. There was this sexy looking white cannondale tandem with disk brakes
  14. Would you still like to see me at the races, or will you prefer me to race with Ernst van Dyk? Yeah, that was my mistake last week - did the wellington crit on Wednesday and then some low cadence hill climb work on Thursday. Legs felt heavy at the start line..... rookie mistake. In season it should be speed work in the week and race with distance over the weekend.
  15. Yeah, it's a nice 65Km to work one way - considered that but then my wife has to use her own car....... trying to conserve petrol here. Have considered her dropping me off at work in the AM and me riding home in the PM or vice versa...... but she is doing a course Tues and Wed PM at the moment and I prefer to ride in the AM if I have a choice - but with the upgrade to Elites in Spring, I m going to K@K off big time...... at least the spring races are fairly flatter than the summer league's routes.
  16. The Tenere XT660Z is too high for her to ride - that is why it is perfect for me Would have to mod it for her to ride - then she needs to get her licence first.
  17. My problem is that I have to drop my wife off in Stellies en-route to work...... that is where the logistics get stuck. She is already getting to work at 7:15 and getting fetched at 5:30
  18. I descend like a deamon - so popped off the front there at Westlake on both ends, Boyes drive I positioned myself near the front, led at the corner at Kalk Bay and on my solo descent of Ou Kaaps, hit 81.8Km/h with a cadence of 133rpm at some point. I hate descending in bunches just for the slight chance that something goes pear shape and I end up becoming one with someone else's bicycle. LOL! I'll have to get up at some crazy hour to ride before work. Live in Wellington and work in Gordon's Bay. Up at 5:30 to leave at 6:30 and only get back home around 6;15. Tried convincing the boss to build in a shower at work so that I can cycle to and/or from work but that didn't work out - should try again I think. Riding league (elites) in Spring so definitely need to get some quality mileage in before then.
  19. I think that with all the non-competitors on the road, guys were getting away too easily without being spotted....... two guys got away (but got caught again) just after the Cape Point entrance. It happened as we were passing some randoms and the guys who were in front at that point showed no interest in chasing them down. As we turned towards Scarborough, a few of us put in a solid effort to catch them which we did by the time we hit misty cliffs. Well done man. You must have had a great race. Wish I had as much time as you do to go riding
  20. I refuse to engage in such discussions as it will lead me to being flamed by those who practice this deceptive art Some call it 'tactics' but we aren't riding Pro or in teams so we are 'each for ourselves'. Riding the bunch and helping at the front is part and parcel of riding alphabet soup. Those who wheelsuck 99% of the way and then amazingly develop sprinting legs for the finish are to be despised and disposed of off the back of the bunch. There is my R10 (that is my sidewall repair patch in my riding kit). Off to work again
  21. I thought we caught you going into Simons Town?! I was the 'big' guy in the Green and black /dark blue William's Bike shop jersey. Pearl red, white and carbon CIOCC. Saw you go off, The guy in Complete Cyclist kit gave chase and I followed past him to, what I though, was your wheel.......
  22. I am with 'Dale on this one. Want to get a hard effort in on the route. The A bunch is going to be relentless!
  23. Wait - were you the dude who, when I said those deep sections are no use in the bunch and that you should be off the front, replied that you are unfit? ........ and then proceeded later to sprint up Slangkop like a deamon... Just trying to put a name to a face - I assume you are the guy leading the Endomondo challenge.
  24. I would say half the guys that beat me...... the other half were the ones that sat in the bunch (like I should have) and conserved their energy for Ou Kaaps
