  1. Yes, I know. But its a carb. I don't get this.
  2. Can anyone give me a definitive answer of whether the Ucan SuperStarch product falls in line with the LCHF diet? I have been on the diet for about 3 weeks now and although I haven't lost a lot of weight, I am feeling fantastic. I have researched this question as best as I can and there seems to be two schools of thought here. In the Phinney and Volek book, The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Permormance ( a book that Tim Noakes regularly refers to), SuperStarch is actually promoted. Yet they advocate quite clearly that we need to virtually eliminate carbs. Now I appreciate that there is no insulin spiking etc., but surely the product is still a carb and should be avoided? All of your views will be appreciated. BTW-what a great thread this is.
  3. Thanks dipslick. I have sent you a PM.
  4. Does anyone know where I can get Ketostix (or the same) in Johannesburg? I've asked at Clicks and DisChem in Illovo and they don't have stock and don't know how to get any. I've also asked two other smaller pharmacies in the area and also without joy.
  5. I did the marathon. Well done Advendurance. Great organization. The traffic getting into the race was a bit hectic though.
  6. I did the 70km and without doubt it is the toughest ride I have ever done. Do the hot-shot guys actually cycle to the top of those hills? It was utterly insane.
  7. I rode Modderfontein on Saturday, the red route. I got completely lost and landed up only doing 30km instead of 40km. I really think the marking can be improved. Nevertheless, a great ride.
  8. I'm keen to buy an indoor trainer that I can put my 29er on. When I looked at a CycleOps trainer, I was advised that you cannot fit a 29er on to it. Does anyone know of a brand that a 29er will fit on to? Many thanks in advance.

    Tour de Tuli

This must be one of the best rides of the year, certainly my favourite. Really looking forward to it.
  10. There are quite a few Specialized agents in Gauteng. I have always received outstanding service from Dunkeld Cycles 011 341 0627. Also try Anton at Summit Cycles in Kyalami.
  11. I rode there last week and it was near perfect.
  12. I am also keen to see a profile of the new route. Can anyone help?
  13. I would like to buy some cycling shorts in the Gauteng area, but don't know exactly what fits best etc. Can anyone give me some ideas of which shop/LBS has the largest range of cycling clothing? This will really save me time, instead of going from shop to shop. Most of the LBS's that I have gone to have a very limited range. Many thanks.
  14. Now that winter is here, I need/want to do some spinning classes. Has anyone got any recommendations for a good training class or a good spinning trainer to look out for? I'm based in Sandton and Rosebank and would ideally be looking for a 60 to 90 minute class. I'm a memeber at Planet Fitness, but I find the classes at Wanderers and Rosebank, with a few exeptions, a little lame. Any ideas?
  15. I'm also doing for the first time. Anybody got some information or a profile of the route? It would be really helpful.
  16. I see this is being advertised on Cyclelab. Does any of you guys know of this event and what it is like in terms of organisation on toughness? Any opinions will be appreciated.
  17. Brilliant! Thanks.
  18. I haven't done the "main to the t junction at kyalami" bit. Can you give me more detail? It would be really helpful to me. BTW, the tunnel is in Paulshof, so if you could start from there, it would be excellent.
  19. How do get 90km on the spruit? The most I have got out of it is 53km. This is when I start at Paulhof, go towards Emmerentia, via Delta Park and Alberts Farm. When I reach Emmerentia, I come straight back. Am I missing a loop?
  20. This looks interesting. Have you had any experience with them?
  21. I think that it is actually compulsory to go tubeless. I may be wrong though.I did it last year for the first time and I found it very tough. Probably because I had more than 6 beers a night. . It was fantastic.
  22. I must say that I found the 45km insanely tough and was not prepared for it mentally. It is, in my view, the toughest by far of the Nissan MTN series. I sincerely believed that after the first 16km climb that the rest was a cruise! I am sure that I am not alone on this, as the faces that I saw at the end of the event were utterely exhausted and the number of people that did not finish was huge. Nevertheless, its nice to tick that one off.
  23. I've had a Venter for years now and am very happy with it. I really don't think there is much in it regarding weight. I would focus on the quality when making your decision. It is the quality of the bike racks that drive me insane. I have thae same racks as those on leon_pro's Venter. They have given me endless grief. The clamps that hold the bike's fork in place always come loose and also rust.
  24. It's an aluminium frame.
  25. I went to the coast for December and road on the beach. The bike frame has now corroded and my LBS thinks I should throw the bike away.I know now that it was idiotic of me to ride on the beach, but there were so many other cyclists I genuinely thought nothing of it. I want to claim now on the bike's warranty, but my LBS feels that all bike warranties exclude corrosion claims. I find this extremely irritating as I wasn't advised of this when I bought the bike. Does anyone know what the standard warranty is? I need to be prepared before I go into battle! Many thanks.
