  1. I can only comment on the TRX seeing as I own one myself. It's a great bike, nice and light and handles really well. Fast it isn't - and below 3000rpm they do have a classic V-Twin type vibration which I guess is what they tried to mimic with the cross-plane crank. But around town it can be a bit tiresome because that's the zone you ride in. Above 3000rpm it's lovely and smooth and pulls nicely up to about 180kph which is where I chicken out. But it definitely doesn't give you a kick up the arse - I remember I always wanted one when I worked at Yamaha but they would never let me ride the sample one because I couldn't be seen "promoting" it because we didn't bring them in. But when I did I was pretty disappointed having come off R6's and R1's. I think that's why it didn't sell well. But when I finally got mine in my 40's I then could appreciate the concept of what they were trying to achieve. I looked at that CT one - it's a nice example but I think R70k is too much. Remember, they aren't particularly rare - there's a bunch in the UK and in Aus - they are just unusual in SA because there aren't many of them. Good ones in the UK are GBP4000 and having recently sent a Velocette over and losing 35% to Duties and transport etc that GBP4000 becomes GBP2600 which is about R60K. It's been available for a while now - so you might even get it for R55k..... Personally, I think the Aprilia would be a better investment - there would be a bigger market to sell an Aprilia to in SA than the TRX if you ever needed to sell for cash. But if you wanted something unusual for not a lot of money then get the TRX!
  2. Yup. And once the smoke has escaped from the harness there's no putting it back in again
  3. I raced a race back in the late 90's in Vanderbijlpark when he had just signed for Mapei. Our local team was trying to keep up with him and it was like we were riding behind a motorbike. Had a brief chat with him afterwards and he was really nice - not unapproachable at all.
  4. In numerology, 287 is generally considered a positive and potent number, primarily driven by the energy of its components () and its connection to the number 28. It represents a blend of spiritual insight (7), material abundance/leadership (8), and partnership (2), often signaling a need for balance between spiritual growth and material success. Key Aspects of 287 in Numerology: The Power of 28: 28 is viewed as a highly prosperous number, often called a "wealth number". Balanced Energy: 287 signifies a potential to combine wisdom with leadership, creating a life that is both materially successful and spiritually grounded.
  5. Well - that's pretty much it. I didn't ride it - when I did the testing I rigged up a 12V coil but for originality, I wanted to keep it 6V so I used the original coil - it's sparked a few times and then of course died! Serves me right. I've ordered some pattern grips and foot peg rubbers from the UK and the tank rubbers were put in a safe place by my Dad - so they will be in a box somewhere! And then I just need to fit a chain - a normal 428 will do. I'll do all of that before the 1000 Bike show in September. My Dad won the award for best restoration at the show about 6 years ago - I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping to get another one for him this year!
  6. All going well we will be going for a ride up and down the street tomorrow!
  7. Interesting bike hey!
  8. I like that - I had forgotten that those were made. Makes me want to go hunting for an original Yamaha MT-01 again.....
  9. There's a few things I have learnt from my time on the Hub. And one particular phrase from that thread which I still use: "Not going to f-ing happen......"
  10. Ai....
  11. Dude I'm going to have a beer for you if that is indeed the case. And I haven't had a beer this year yet.
  12. Years ago I was on a motorbike coming down Jim Fouche when the traffic had stopped for a red light. I was filtering down between the stationary and on-coming cars on the LHS, when a guy who was stationary did a U-turn in front of me and I t-boned the side of his car. I was lucky - came away with a fractured ankle, but this was still in the days of De Brolio on 94.7 advertising the Road Accident fund so I decided to claim. Took a while and it went all the way to court, and in the end it was deemed the blame was 20% my fault. I protested to the Lawyers that filtering is perfectly legal and he said yes it is, but that doesn't mean its safe and in doing so, I had put myself in the dangerous situation in the first place. Was quite an eye opener for me. I still ride my bike but I don't filter unless I know there is no chance anyone can swap lanes.
  13. Just the wiring to be done!
  14. Nice! Is that all you need?
  15. Just as a matter of interest - does anyone here know someone in Port Alfred who would be willing to collect a fuel tank for me - I've found one at a guy, but he's a typical Surfer dude and is being a bit non-committal - even offered to pay him up front and then send a courier to collect but he's one his own mission a bit....
  16. I'm just torn between a black or a silver engine......
  17. I'm tempted to go with the red frame too - it's not to everybody's taste but this one is for me, not for the purists out there who frown because someone has used the wrong colour green for the olive zink plating!
  18. So the old Velocette is almost done and I don't want to start on another 2-year + project right now so figured maybe I must do another quick 6-month DT rebuild. Some time ago I bought 3 scrappers from a guy who was going to dump them and when I got them home I realized that the one actually ran and that between the three I could definitely build one, and possibly even two. I'm over doing OEM restorations on DT's - you spend way to much time and money, and these bikes really aren't collectable, so I figured this one I might do something a bit different in terms of colours. So - ChatGPT is a friend here, and I have three renderings. Which one should I go for.......

It looks to me like the American thing will better suit Darryn. Maybe not as much pressure as MotoGP and also probably a but more suited to his personality!

Yup but if you watch the highlights I don't think it cost him a podium - the young girl who came third was properly fast and has raced at Daytona a few times so has all the experience. She just outplayed Daz on the last lap. I read up a bit about her - Kayla Yaakov. She's the real deal.

Darryn had a pretty good debut over the weekend - was right up there during practice and ended up 4th. Impressive!
  22. I chat quote often with a guy in Bloem - his name is Johan. He seems to be able to track down quite a few parts especially for dirtbikes. I can send you his number if you like. I have ordered from him before so he is legit
  23. Glad to see some positive progress finally! Hopefully you find a flywheel soon and this new Mechanics brother doesn't require urgent medical attention right before delivery
  24. Some more progress on the 1931 GTP. The plan is to have it done by the end of March and then display it at the 1000 Bikes Show later this year.
