  1. Page 51 had a cool Triumph if it's any consolation!
  2. And just in case - Danny-La-Rue Number 52........
  3. Tweak-of-the-thumb Number 51........
  4. (K)retrieve (T)omorrow (M)orning?
  5. I must be honest when I read about new decompressor pins I thought ish that's going to take more than one day.....
  6. Ish - now I'm not going to make any jokes because I know exactly how you feel. I had a similar situation with my RAV - I was hearing a bearing noise coming from the front but only when I pulled into the Garage. Nothing serious. Anyway, I work in Krugersdorp and live in Pta so I commute. I also have to be quite smart with services because I need my car to get home again. So off to Toyota I go for the 180000 service and please to check for the bearing noise. Comes back - needs a water pump. Two days. This obviously doesn't work for me, so I book it into Toyota Lynnwood for the water-pump. No says the Service Advisor - it's the tensioner pulley. Two days. So I leave it with them and steal my wife's car for work. RAV stays with Toyota over the weekend, on Monday my Wife Ubers to collect. Sorry says Toyota, it wasn't the tensioner pulley but the Alternator - R15000. NFW say I, and I drive the car to Krugersdorp on Tuesday to work so I can hear the new noise. Now it's bloody loud. So off I go to our Auto Electrician up the road who we can trust - yup - Pulley on the Alternator. Car will be done by 16:30 he says. Calls me at 16:30 (after all my colleagues have left Krugersdorp), Toyota has no stock of Pulleys so car will only be ready on Thursday (2 days). Uber back home to Pretoria, steal my Mom's car for Wednesday and Thursday, use the bike to work on Friday, pick up the car - noise still there. Now I'm worried to drive the car back to Pretoria in case it is the Water Pump, so off to Toyota West Rand again - please replace the water pump. We told you says the Service advisor. another 2 days. Bike home on Friday, Wife's car with Bike trailer to work on Monday, Wife's car home on Monday, bike to work on Tuesday, My RAV with bike on trailer back home on Tuesday..... Noise is still there. Aircon pulley apparently.....
  7. 🙂
  8. Who is the guy working on it?
  9. Shall we take some bets to see if it actually happens?
  10. There used to great bike shops in the South of Jhb - I remember going to Russel Campbell Kawasaki a few times and also many times to Bike Hospital. In the early 90's I had an RD350LC which needed parts and I got a bunch from Bike Hospital - for a steal too because Hey, who even wanted an old 350LC when you could have a Thunderace or a Thundercat. I think I paid R100 for a standard exhaust pipe. Would probably be worth R5000 now
  11. Back in the days when I was at Yamaha KTM stood for Keep Throwing Money..... Or Kick Till Monday. You decide 🙂
  12. I know a company that makes carbon brushes here in Gauteng just in case they tell you NLA.... Morgan Advanced Materials. And with a sample, and an old-school Hardware shop like Krugersdorp Glass who allows you to scratch around I bet you would find a set off a drill or an angle-grinder that would work. All the tricks you learn when restoring obscure British bikes!

  14. I read somewhere that Louis is retiring at the end of this year. Not sure if it's confirmed yet.
  15. Guys - need some Hub Motorcycling enthusiast's opinions here..... Some of you might recall my Dad bought that V50 Guzzi before just before he died - it was(is) is a real POS - he paid too much, and then paid extra to get the papers, and could never get it running properly. He eventually parked it and never worked on it again. I gave it a shot and actually found quite a few burnt wires in the harness (it's got Yamaha light switches, some cheap Motrix start button thing). It's actually now running but not charging which I find odd because I'm sure my Dad would have check that. Anyway, bottom line is it will never be an original bike. So, here's the question - I can get a body kit made which replicates the the bike below - I have a mate who makes aluminum parts - do I make a nice tribute bike for my Dad (at a cost of probably R50k - waaaaaay more than it's worth), or do I continue with the bike the two of us were building together (at a similar cost - maybe even more) and sell the V50 off as a parts bike? I don't have space for both of them unless I either get rid of the XTZ660 or the TRX850, both of which I quite enjoy - but are also parked in the back of the garage in favor of the DT's at the moment which are much easier to use around town. First world problems I know!
  16. I enjoyed it too. Was interesting - if you look at the posters on Jamie's office wall when Anna is discussing her first assignment they are both prominent Feminism icons - the one is The Female Eunuch by Charmaine Greer and the other is the Woman's liberation poster Springtime will never be the same. Quite clever given the content of Anna's assignment. I know - I was bored!
  17. An update on the Natal Classic - bike ran really well. I was nervous because it's basically a brand new engine and I was pushed for time so didn't have the opportunity to ride it much. And weirdly even though I have built many engines and probably 5 of these DTs as I have got older I kept second-guessing myself - did I tighten the clutch bolt, did I assemble the oil pump correctly. I guess that's just age. The only issue I had was that I did feel compared to my other DT and also from what I remember this bike didn't quite run as well as I had thought it would. Anyway, long story short I had a few 125LC carbs in my stash which are identical to the DT175 in size (but have a few small changes in jet passages etc) and have a few jet sizes different. So I built a bit of a hybrid carb using a good 125LC body but with 175 jetting. Now it goes like I remember - I think somewhere over time someone has fiddled with the carb. Anyway, now it's done. I'm just having the seat redone - I never had time for that and the original foam is wasted so its bloody uncomfortable!
  18. My late father bought this for my mom in the 90's. She's decided that she no longer wants to wear it. Where would be the best place to take it to have it valued so that we can sell it for her?
  19. Natal Classic Rally. Would have liked to have run it in a bit more before the rally, but here here we are. Hold thumbs!
  20. Majority done now - and it runs too!
  21. All I hear is clutches rattling....... 😉
  22. Was a lot of fun again! Worryingly, the numbers were way down from previous years though which doesn't bode well for our sport. Hope it continues again next year.....
  23. So a few pics to show the progress on the Money Pit...... Yambits UK and I are on drinking terms now!
