  1. Hi Mandibles where in Gauteng do you live if it is in Pta. you should check out epic cycles club rides you don?t even have to be a club member all are welcome and the pace is the pace of the slowest rider for te day' date=' the object is to have fun, get to know other cyclist "fun riders" The usual group avg is around 17km/h <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> [/quote'] Thanks. I know where Epic Cycles is. 17 km/h isn't novice pace by my standards. I guess it depends on the terrain though.
  2. I would be highly upset if this happened to me at a Hub "social" ride! I am a member of a club but have never attended any of the group rides. I'm a mtb'er and their "slow" group avg is advertised as up to 20km/h which is faster than I think I am capable of. I mentioned this to the club when they sent out a survey asking for feedback. Novices are not catered for at many clubs it seems.
  3. Thanks Pappa Bear. I assume you start at the right-hand side dot and head up Skanskop first?
  4. Thanks DT. Will owe you big time if you get it right. Breathing is still painful for me this morning. I think my mtb just didn't like being on the hard black stuff. I wiped out in the parking lot as I was finishing my ride. The cord from my iPod hooked my handlebar and I didn't have enough time to uncleat before hitting the ground. Landed on top of the bar end and winded myself. Why is uncleating when lying down so much harder than when you're upright?!
  5. Looking down on Groenkloof Nature Reserve.
  6. Unfortunately can't provide proof as I don't think the mods will approve of me posting a pic of one of my mammary glands. It connected with the bar end
  7. This is along a relatively easy part of the route.
  8. I went to check out the route today. I paid R50 to become a "Friend of the Monument" which gives me free entrance until March next year. I think it is R120 per annum. I never managed to find the start of the trail. I think I last rode there about 10 years ago and everything looks a lot different now. All I can recall is that we used to start by riding down the stairs of the amphitheatre but we couldn't even find that today although I saw it from the road. There are no cycle route signboards whatsoever. I eventually managed to hop onto the dirt and it was rocky and fairly hilly. I rather enjoyed it though! Got lost once but managed to find the route again. I had forgotten just how steep that one downhill section was. Definitely not a route I would recommend for novices or a family outing. I somehow missed the turnoff to get to the bottom parallel to Eufees and eventually my nice dirt road became a tarred incline. I saw quite a bit of game which surprised me. I then met up with a friend and we went to the top of Fort Skanskop. Nice view from up there! We ran out of time and didn't get to explore any further but I'm definitely going back. I never saw any sign of the new route they are building but the guys at the gate said they were working on something. I took some pics and will upload some when I get a chance. Anyone able to give me directions to the start of the trail?Mandibles2009-10-28 12:21:37

  17. I haven't ridden at the Monument in ages but am keen to go ride there. Are the trails still in good condition and what is the cost? Is it still safe to ride around there?Mandibles2009-10-27 02:58:08
  18. How safe is the area i.e. how big a group do you recommend? I'm female and like to ride on my own hence the question.
