  1. I've just been threatened via a PM to not post any pics! Mandibles2009-03-15 06:39:30
  2. Ensuring that HR keeps his pants on might be a problem if he arrives without them. ... the real challenge is making sure he doesn't simply lose them I hope that he actually makes it to the Hub ride this time...unlike the last one!
  3. I went to the shops earlier mainly to get some dog/cat food. When I got back home I realised I'd forgotten to buy some. It's not an aisle that I usually go down. I've decided to give a cash donation instead. No rain here yet.
  4. There a 30% chance of rain. The rain here usually falls in the afternoon.
  5. It will probably rain tonight but I don't think it will rain tomorrow morning. I'm riding come rain or shine.
  6. Perp, I've added you to the list.
  7. Speed Devil, there are two sections of single track on the route I have planned for the novices/slower folk/kids. Both are very smooth with virtually no obstacles/rocks. There isn't much loose sand around at the moment as it has all been washed away. There is one very rocky section elsewhere but I don't suggest you ride it with the baby seat on the back. Try run the tyres fairly hard and you can always deflate them slightly if you feel that they are too hard. You shouldn't become airborne at any stage on the route Mandibles2009-03-13 14:07:26
  8. Another reminder... PLEASE BRING A DONATION OF DOG OR CAT FOOD FOR FORA IF POSSIBLE(http://www.fora.org.za/f/)<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  9. does the one i've got still work? Yip, you've got the special one. The one above is for work/spam Don't always answer it but will this weekend. Didn't want to give out my other one.
  10. Morning Hubbers and Hubbettes. Just a quick reminder to please bring chairs and a portable braai if possible. If the weather turns bad we will still ride but we will then go to one of the nearby restaurants for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Here's one of my cellphone numbers in case you have any questions or you get lost trying to find us etc: 082 332 9168. See you all on Sunday.
  11. Nancy' date=' I'm leading the novice/slow group. The route I have planned has an escape route at about 4kms in which will give you a 6km ride in total. The 2kms back is all on a slight downhill and it leads straight to the car park so you can't get lost either. The total ascent for the 6kms is only 70m. I'm sure your 6 year old will be able to cope with the route I have planned. We will be going very slowly and stopping often to look at the animals and catch our breath etc[/quote'] 6kms!!!?? Daemon, this is the potential route for Nancy's 6 year old and not the whole Hub ride.

  13. I did a scouting trip of Groenies yesterday and was amazed at how much the route has changed in just one month. The river/root section after the short steep semi-tar downhill is not rider-friendly anymore. The water is quite deep and the little island is covered in high plants that made us itch afterwards. We tried to get into the forested singletrack via another route only to find that the entrance area has many big rocks and moss-covered soil. I won't be taking the beginner/slow group along this route as the risk of someone falling is too high. There used to be a mini waterfall halfway up the uphill that faces Botha Avenue. They have now covered it up and there is a big sign which says that it is sinkhole territory and that you should not pass that point. We cycled across it as I think that it refers to cars...or at least I hope it did! We saw 4 giraffe (1 very cute baby one), 3 ostrich, impala during our short ride.
  14. reactor_sa, don't spend money on nice-to-have's such as a shock pump just yet. If you need one then I'm sure your LBS will pump your shock for you if you ask them nicely. I'll take my one along in case you need it seeing as you're on a new bike which might need setting up. A patch kit is good enough to start off with. I only use CO2 cannisters for my road bike as I can't pump the tyres hard enough by hand. One spare tube is enough if you have a patch kit with you. Try using water bottles first and then decide if you need a Camelbak. Put Slime in the tyres as suggested by Agteros.
  15. Saffer, I'll print them if you'll wear them. DD, not nametags - Race "Numbers" (or in our case Hub nicks) pinned on the back of our cycling shirts for the duration of the ride.
  16. where would i pin mine? We could tattoo it on. Mandibles2009-03-09 01:07:30
