  1. Here's some photos of Groenkloof to give you an idea of what to expect. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=65852&l=638ab&id=647031019

  3. Excuse my ignorance. Where is Groenies?? Sorry...Groenkloof Nature Reserve. Near Unisa.
  4. Feb dates are out for me. Have already entered races on those days.
  5. I'm keen on a ride at Groenies too.
  6. It sure does!
  7. Caffiene is no longer a banned substance. http://www.wada-ama.org/rtecontent/document/PL2009_EN_Final.pdf " * The following substances included in the 2009 Monitoring Program (bupropion, caffeine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pipradol, pseudoephedrine, synephrine) are not considered as Prohibited Substances."
  8. Helloise it isn't too late. Go get a bike setup done. They will be able to see whether the frame is too big or not and perhaps all you need is a shorter stem or narrower handle bars or something along those lines to make it more comfortable. Go to your LBS and ask them to help you. They don't usually charge for it unless it is a fancy computerised setup.
  9. You can't judge a bike by small, medium, large etc. I'm 1cm taller than Helloise. My road bike is an XS and my mtb is a medium. Each manufacturer has different sizing. Go for a proper bike setup and they will be able to tell you whether it is the correct size or not.
  10. It looks like Wolverine's.
  11. I had an issue yesterday which Steven promptly and very professionally dealt with. Thank-you Steven. Excellent customer service.
  12. I am battling to push my hr up as high as I used to. Tried riding up a hill at between 85-90% this weekend and felt like I could barely breathe. In the past I used to do a whole race at that average. My resting hr has come down a bit. Will adjust my max down slightly, thanks.
  13. I started a training program 3 months ago and was very unfit at that stage. Wouldn't the difference then be more significant for someone like me?
  14. How often should you reassess your max hr?
  15. The incident above took place "at the top of the hill/water reservoir opposite Cornwall Hill Estate".
  16. I have just received an email about yet another cyclist who was mugged. I'm not sure of the area but it sounds like it was in the Pierre van Ryneveld/Irene area again. Guy was riding in the veld on his way home after work. It doesn't sound like he was injured. I had a discussion today with friends (all of them Hubbers). They can't understand why I am apprehensive about riding Breedtsnek alone as I did so a few months ago. They feel it is totally safe as there are lots of cyclists who ride that route, including our very own Nancy Drew who often rides it alone. I can't decide whether I'm just being too cautious or not.
  17. I got a coach, started a training program, and went to a dietician. Picked up 3 kgs in 6 weeks Have managed to lose the 3kgs but it hasn't been easy. I have lost some centimeters though. Men do seem to have it easier thanks to having more muscle. Stick at it.
  18. My coach says that you must have at least one rest day per week. I do two hard sessions on the weekend and then I get Monday off to recover. Saturday is a lot harder than Sunday but both days are hard in comparison to my weekday rides. I was told to do about a 45 min easy ride at very low hr the day before a race.
  19. Hey! Mine too! That and U2 - Vertigo Nothing motivates me more to train right now than listening to these two tracks.
  20. I ride solo 99% of the time but only at what I think are safer venues e.g. Groenkloof, Rietvlei Dam, Northern Farm. During the week I avoid the boundary fences of Groenkloof even though it means that the ride is more boring. If it is quiet at Northern Farm then I do the same. I don't ride alone by choice. It is not easy to find someone who is the same pace as me (super slow) but has the same training goals. Paul's idea is worth a try. I'm very keen on finding a training partner.

Did you HAVE to remind me?!?! Sigh....yes...I remember those clearly. I am already psyching myself up for a few of those "little" bumps.

Is that like a little ritual or something? what do you do once it's been propped? Yip, it is. Once it's propped up I stare at it and dream about riding the awesome singletrack and downhills with my buddies again. Can't wait for this year's race.
