  1. That is very cool about the silver athena shifters for 2011. I will no doubt change mine. Was dissapointed I couldn't choose them here, like I chose the cranks.
  2. No rush - the blue tape will go on once the white tape went brown - so I have a wee bit time - and the chrome spacers is to replace the black ones you see here - for now, I can ride :-)
  3. Last one
  4. So it's built up - thought I'd post a pic or two ... or three, or more ...
  5. Jy kan so 15.4% by die prys van jou vurk reken.
  6. I will make a suggestion with regard to logistics soon. I am a little slow, cause I can do most of this stuff only at night when home - and probably a little over lunch time :-) For now, I think, all interested parties should get their CRC "wishlist" going so long, so that you are ready when we go ahead. I will use the wishlist as a means of getting all the orders together, cause then I can't screw up anyone's order from my side. Thinking of placing the order early next week - perhaps Tuesday the 14th. If anyone feels that is too little time, then speak up.
  7. I will investigate the wishlist thingy on CRC. If we can use that, then it's probably the best way to go. Will get back soon with a way forward on this thread.
  8. I don't mind placing the order. Just not sure how to handle the logistics (getting the exact orders from all the peeps, and of course the money thing). Any suggestions?
  9. I need something that I am struggling to find at a local shop, but can order from CRC. Problems is, the total amount comes to around R50. I obviously don't want to pay R200 shipping on a R50 product, so if there is anyone in the Cape Town area placing an order on CRC sometime (can wait a while, not in a rush), then I'd like to place this together with that order of possible. Please PM me if you are willing. Ta
  10. I got mine this morning too. Good start to the week!
  11. It may be the seat. I have been riding a Selle Italia SLR from since I started cycling, so I think my arse is just about shaped like a Selle Italia SLR. Once I tried to put on a Fizik saddle which I got for free, and after one ride I was sore. Changed back my saddle ... and voila, the pain was gone. It's not that the Fizik is a bad saddle, I actually liked it. Just didn't want to "ride it in".
  12. Thanks for the reply. Firstly, no no, the Tommasini already has it's own handpicked parts on the way. I'll post some pics when it's done :-) I may be able to get hold of some other old steel frames though, and was wondering if I could go the SS route with one of them. I do see that the SS/Fixie bikes go for cheap-ish though (in comparison with what people spend on bikes these days in any case). So maybe I'll just pick one of the shelf. It just looks like real fun.
  13. Hi I think the fascination with single speed is starting to get to me, and I want to try it out. 2 questions though: 1.) Can you use a regular road frame (albeit and old columbus steel one) to build up a single speed, or is a single speed frame a specific kind of frame? 2.) The next question is somewhat related to the above, although slightly different. The above question refers to whether it is technically possible, but I also want to know whether the geometry of a single speed is different to that of a regular road frame? So even it is possible, is it advisable? Thanks for helping as always
  14. Thanks for that. Going to try and make it.
  15. Thanks so much for the help. I have been riding bikes for a few years now, and to my shame I still know so little of all the technical stuff. I am now in the process of building up a new bike (well, only getting all the parts together so long) and would actually love to attempt to build it myself, so that I can "know" my bike, and take better care of it myself in the future. I fear I need a lot of help though :-)
  16. Thanks HeartCoppi for the reply. So for something like I have in the photo I should select the braze version of FD when choose the options at purchase time? (apologies for the blurry pic, I should just take a proper photo of that area of the bike)
  17. I would be interested in a course in the Cape Town area if anyone knows of something
  18. Hi When you want to buy a Campag groupset you have 3 options with regard to the front derailleur: 1.) Braze on 2.) 32mm Clamp 3.) 35mm Clamp What is the difference between braze on and clamp, and when do you need which? Also, if you then need to get the clamp version, how do you know which size (32 vs 35)?
  19. Thanks for all the reply's. It seems I can with fair safety order a new stem then. Will also look out for the extender-thingy-ma-bob. As for the corrosion, perhaps it's a good idea once a month or every second month or so to just take it out and clean up things a bit. I will also try and google for some of the grease stuff that has been mentioned.
  20. Thanks for the tips so far. Is the corosion you refer to an increased corosion due to the strip from the beer/redbull, or are you just referring to "normal" corosion that comes with steel stuff?
  21. Apologies if this is a stupid question. Is it possible to somehow put a new, modern, and most importantly, available stem (which all seem to be for 1 1/8 inch steerers) on an older 1 inch threaded headset with a 1 inch steerer (aka, steel frame). And if so, how? What do I need to buy with the stem to make it work?
  22. What a stupid question. Asking what another person is like (without him present) on a public forum. Hub's always redefining the term "scraping the bottom of the barrel". http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=scrape%20the%20bottom%20of%20the%20barrel
  23. I don't know who the people in the pics are. If it's anyone you may know, they are welcome to contact me for hi-res versions.
  24. I have also uploaded one or two here Will perhaps add a little more whenever I have time in the week.
  25. That is exactly what I wanted. Thanks Mampara.
