  1. Cool. Perhaps those who go from table view can meet up somewhere along main rd or wherever the route goes through near the paarden eiland/N1 section. At least then we don't have to go all the way into town?
  2. Yup. Although I can only confirm closer to the time. Serious concern whether my fitness will allow it; and I wouldn't want to hold anyone back. If I actually start training in the next month I might be up to it. Of course, if we travel at 28km/h or less on average, then distance becomes less of a concern.
  3. Ja, I'd be keen. My cycling the last two months is pretty much non-existent, so this might be my only long ride before the race.
  4. I have a road bike only at the moment, so no bias. Just wondering: if you make a post when a 26 inch bike wins, the assumption I make is that mostly they don't?
  5. We also received one :-)
  6. Agreed, good point.
  7. If someone rides a bike, any bike, just for fun or to stay fit or train for some event, what is it to you whether they ride on tar one day or dirt the next? Or whether they are clean, or dirty. Or whether they are fat or skinny. I don't get it. It's just a guy on a bike.
  8. Oh, some of the posts I read didn't seem too lighthearted. Maybe just my bad then Continue
  9. An impressive array of ignorance displayed from all sides of the debate. But I am not here to further debate the debate. What I don't understand is why, as if there is not enough going around with crime, violent criminals, road rage and racism, we find still more ways to stir up anger and tension. No doubt these are topics worthy of proper debate, and it is good to debate this in the right way; but on an internet forum? Hardly ever will it achieve anything good.
  10. I don't Believe in God, I believe in science - Eskeleto, Nacho Libre Dear Lord, please bless Nacho with nutrients and strength. Amen - Eskeleto, Nacho Libre
  11. I also used both my spares, and also ended up walking home. Fortunately someone in a double cab picked me up, which saved me a very very long walk.
  12. That seriously sucks
  13. Not that I am one of those who spend that kind of money. But still, enjoy!
  14. And this is CWC's fault, yes. They should just sell it for R500, and carry the cost on behalf of those silly enough to spend that on a brake.
  15. Sorry, not trying to be funny, but I don't understand. Typo?
  16. I went up and over Bain's Kloof pass in April, from Wellington's side. Not sure when the road works started (before or after I was over?), but then it was ok then.
  17. Cool pics. Thanks
  18. Yes, it's Fizik. You get two kinds of brown. One is called Antique brown (the one currently on the Bianchi), and the other one is a lighter, tan brown, which is called Honey. So, depending on what shade of brown the saddle is (if you'd like to match) you could get tape to go with it. Brooks also has those shades of brown. But it is pricey. Genuine leather though on the Brooks, so actually worth it.
  19. Yeah, I am pretty happy with it to say the least. One or two minor things still to be done. But love the bike :-)
  20. Bianchi with Campag. You won't regret it is all I can say. If you go for the other option you will always wonder whether it was the right choice and will never be 100% happy. Learn from my subjective experience
  21. No offense taken, I think it's a good point. My cycling mostly consist of commuting solo, so "confession" of guilt did not refer to the issue of single file. That is just one issue though. Skipping robots is another, using the middle finger and shouting at motorists another .... and so we can create a list of such things. The robot one, specifically, is one I used to do. I would slow down and check whether it's safe first, and if so, I would just carry on over. But because of all the bad vibes between cyclists and motorists, and because it is simply the right thing to do, I have decided (earlier this year) to always stop at a robot, even if it is safe to cross. So yes, I agree totally with your sentiment that we should "just not do it" in cases such as single file and robots where it's a simple decision. But in cases that involve road rage (from either cyclist or motorist) sometimes our anger overrules our ability to make rational decisions in the heat of the moment ... those may take some practice and temperance to eventually tone down to correct responses. Fortunately I rarely find myself there, although on occasion I do come close, and it is here that I can always work on "becoming better" :-)
  22. If we can in any way do *anything* to help how cyclists are being perceived by the general public and motorists, we should, even if we have "valid" and "legal" and "justified" answers/reasons for some of our behaviour. The more aggression we create, the more we put the lives of cyclists at risk. Even if we are sometimes rightfully entitled to something, it doesn't help the greater cause to always insist on it. My only point, as stated in the beginning of this (friendly :-) rant, is that we would do well to make some effort to keep our side as clean as possible. The intolerance toward cyclists are visibly growing, and in small (and sometimes bigger) ways, we contribute some fuel to the prevailing sentiment. I will also be the first to say, I am not entirely guiltless - but I am trying "to be better" ;-)
  23. oh, I also have some classic wheels, but need to figure out how to fit an 11speed casette on them - if that is even possible
