  1. My wife took a nasty tumble on the 20km route this weekend after a lady swerved for glass on the trail sending her flying . She landed heavily on her side and shoulder with her head whip-lashing onto a sizeable rock. Luckily the helmet worked as advertised and she only suffered a mild concussion with some bruising to her hip, shoulder and leg. We would like to thank all the people that stopped to help her up and tried to get her going again with a tube and her bomb. She did have an extra tube which we forgot in her saddle bag in the car . After the adrenaline rush subsided she realised that she would not be able to continue and a big Thank You to the medics on the quad and motorcycle that patched her up and helped her to the finish area.
  2. I think the campsite is still fine as it seems the most damage was on the chalet side. 65 of the chalets destroyed apparently.
  3. We spent last weekend and week in Sondèla with the kids and had so much fun. We left on Friday morning only to find out yesterday that a veld fire on Saturday had destroyed almost all of the chalets with an elderly couple killed in the blaze. A sorry day for such an amazing place.
  4. Wasn't too bad. Did the 70km from D and only 2 holdups the first one at the bend to go up the hill at St George hotel and the last one at the single track before the broken bridge. The last stop did however save me from serious cramps up the last hill so it had it's benefit. Think I lost between 20 and 30 minutes which makes me very proud of my sub 4 hour ride.
  5. Sondela near Bela Bela. Here at the moment and they've got something for everyone to do.
  6. I've had mine for month or so an I'm enjoying every minute of it. With tubeless conversion it's a shade over 11kg and the handling is sublime. Confidence is growing on the downhills and singletrack at every outing and I've had no issues whatsoever with components or the frame thus far.
  7. For me it's right back as I used to klap lank broadies with the right leg on the backpedal brakes many moons ago. Pedalpedalpedal eeeeeeeecccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

  9. Hi Everyone One of our supporters who will not be able to ride the race themselves has graciously offered to cover the cost of a single race entry and this persons donation to our cause. Their only request is that the person must be someone that otherwise would not have been able to enter the race. Feel free to PM me with suggestions of such a deserving person together with a short motivation on why he/she should be chosen. Cheers.
  10. I've also noticed this. Was wondering why this happens.
  11. Silverback Vida 1. Best all-round deal wrt components and weight. At R16000 you'll have some change for a Go-pro or GPS to record your awesome rides.
  12. Was going to ride but at 6 when I woke up is just seemed too much effort with the wind and the cold. Hope it went well.
  13. Hi Everyone We managed to secure a charity bond entry for the race and are looking for sponsors and riders for our bond. Our beneficiary will be Pathways Roodepoort a stimulation and care centre that cater for the needs of children that are severely impaired mentally or physically. We would like to raise as much money as possible for them but raising awareness of the centre and their daily operating needs is our long term goal. Our bond entry size is unlimited but we would like to supply the first 50 entrants in our charity with a cycle shirt and t-shirt for the race. Therefore the need for sponsors to cover the cost thereof and to maximize the donation to Pathways. If you have entered the race already you will still be able to cycle under our charity entry and you will have the benefit of an early start at 8:18AM. Racing snakes who have a seeding earlier can also ride under our bond banner and can still start in their earlier seeded group. To secure your entry into our bond we ask for a R200 donation per rider. More info on the centre can be found at http://www.pathwaysr...rg.za/index.php (They are fully BEE compliant and is registered as a NPO.) For the sponsors we will be "selling" advertising space on our cycle and t-shirts which will also give your company exposure on the day. The cost thereof is between R4000 and R10000. Please PM me should you be interested in cycling or sponsoring our charity entry. Thanks in advance
  14. It was a little sad however how he shunned the little boy who ran after him for his signature when he rode out of the gate once everyone was finished.
  15. Pop them in a ziploc filled with rice.
  16. Have the same issue when I train for the Midmar in the pool. Try using a strong vitamin C supplement (500mg or stronger) and spray with a nasal homeopathic allergy solution before and after your swim. Some people have a chlorine allergy which has more or less the same symptoms.
  17. Saw the same at Babba's once with a teenager throwing his bike all over the show after getting a puncture a short while after the start. Mommy and daddy also freaked out. "Frikkie!! Frikkie!! Kom hier!! kom hier!!"
  18. Award for "Most attacks" goes to Froome's GF.
  19. Upgraded from my trusty old '96 Cannondale with a dd60 fatty headshok to a Silverback Vida 1. A tad more suspension
  20. Go for number 3. I've got 2 of them and it works 100% for a 29er frame. Got a good deal from Cyclehouse in Pta for the whole setup.
  21. They do however recover quite a few cars. In my line of work I deal with the helicopters on a daily basis and it's quite sad to see how many cars are hi-jacked every day. Nothing better than hearing them say "We've recovered the vehicle, thanks for the help"
  22. Try this: Loosen the mounting bolts so the caliper is loose enough to move around then spin the wheel. Pull the brake lever to stop the wheel and whilst holding the brake lever tighten the bolts alternating between the bolts until fully tightened. This centers the caliper which should eliminate the touching of the pads on the rotor.
  23. I hear shocks go soft if your store the bikes like that.
