I just googled and found that too. But being on the bigger side I would always say more is more when it come to my gear. I run double butted spokes on both my wheel sets DH cranks on both bikes. I cam afford to lose some weight on me so I pick heaven duty and durability on my gear and not weight weenie. I have a mate who is 10kg lighter and was riding a 24spoke front wheel with no limit and broke two in as many races now he is back to a 32spoke.

Are these wheels not havens? They are AM wheels and built for a bit more abuse. I would own a set if I could.

That's exactly right. 24 spoke wheels usually have a weight limit of around 100kg. Add your bike weight to your 97kg plus around 1.5kg for kit and water bottle puts you over the limit. I would seriously recommend getting yourself a set of 32spoke wheels. Maybe someone (light weight, race snake) would like to swap similar value 32spoke set. Or buy a new set and sell those to make up the difference. It'll cost you around R 1000 just to rebuild with stronger spokes. If it's a 29er wheel you can't get DH spokes. Seriously consider a new wheelset. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Maybe there is a wheel expert out there that know better.

Double butted is the way to go. I'm 97kg and riding a rigid hardtail over rough terrain and doing jumps and haven't broken a spoke yet.

NO WHERE HAS THE OP MENTIONED WHAT HE PAID FOR THE BIKE. THE 91K FIGURE WAS STARTED BY ANOTHER POSTER (LIVE5 @22;50) AND EVERYONE HAS RUN WITH IT.

you dont Have to run a SS specific chainring. you can run your standard chainring but not advisable. If you already have a standard chainring and use it a temporary fix until you get SS chainring it would be fine but definitely dont go buy a standard one it use it as a permanent fix. SS chainrings are relatively cheap. Go have a look upstairs at Epic cycles in centurion.
