  2. "DHL" as understood by most, refers to the express courier product "DHL Express", with offices worldwide. This is a premier international hand-to-hand courier service like Fedex, UPS (not US Postal), & TNT. It is owned by German state-owned Deutsche Post, the operator of the German postal service. What the recipient (Caerus) needs to know (from the sender) is whether the parcel is an express courier parcel, handled in SA by DHL Express delivered directly to his physical address, or whether it is a parcel sent by DHL international postal service to his postal address and will be processed by the SA Post Office. In the first instance, the shipment would be trackable on the website www.dhl.com. If the item was sent by post, the recipient should check with the SA Post Office client service call centre 0860 111 502. Only once the parcel is in SA and processed by SAPO, is it allocated a parcel number (only if it had a number at origin). If the recipient has an international tracking number, SAPO cust service will be able to assist by providing the recipient with a tracking number with an "ii12345678ZA" format. Many unregistered parcels get sent from overseas and one just has to be patient as there is no way of tracking such a parcel. This ii number would also be trackable on the SAPO website.

  5. Been there done that... Only my bucking problem happened on the downhill exit out of Suikerbosrand @about 80kmh. Vets tour 2006 - an Eland took out my front wheel - didn't actually hit it but nevertheless came down pretty hard and did my pelvis. I just remember seeing this horned apparition in front of me - no time to brake. Could've been lethal. Sympathies to the guy in this amazing footage.
  6. Kerneels, these are very treacherous waters and in most cases this approach causes burnout. Many successful cyclists started in their late teens, even into their 20's and even race at top level into their 40's and 50's (Jeanie Longo). The problem is that a structured training program often takes the fun out of bike riding for youngsters and once the learning/improvement curve flattens off boredom is likely to cause a loss of interest. In most cases by the time girls get to Junior level they have dropped out. If your daughter is athletic she could participate in school sport (swimming, athletics, netball etc) and cycle for fun only. When she gets to u16 you can start talking to someone if she is an exceptional talent. Mark vd Merwe has specialised in coaching youngsters for years (at Finish Line in Kempton Park). Have a chat with him. Clint (owner of Finish Line) is also very knowledgeable.
  7. I have the following Miche gears for 9spd- from 14/15/16/17/18 (2x)/19/20/21/22/23/24/26 and inserts for Shimano - and spacers for 9 spd. Shimano 9 spd gears as follows: (2 each of) 14, 15, 16, 17,19, 21, 23 and (1x ) 18 and 25. These are nice to have to fill in the gaps. In Shim 8spd gears I have 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25 Also 52t chainrings, 1 each of BBB, Shimano 5600, DA 7800 (will swop DA for 53 in same v/good nick) all in good nick. Also 10spd ultegra 14 -25 clusters - 2 of. PM if interested. Did the youth thing with laaities for 5 yrs. In SA 52x14/16/17/18 still required at SA's/Prov/Eric v Enter. O/seas have moved to Compact cranks with different ratios. Recommend staying with 52 for now, though.
  8. 17-52. You can build up clusters. I can help with sprockets from 14t - 26t. PM me. You will also need spacers (8 or 9 spd). You could probably also use a 10 spd 16-27 cluster and leave off the 16. You would need to set up your top/bottom set stops

I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU WITH A QUOTE TO SHIP IT DIRECTLY TO LHASA AIRPORT. COULD GET IT TO KATHMANDU FOR ABOUT R2K FOR FIRST 15KG + R130/KG - RATE ALSO SUBJECT TO VOLUMETRIC FACTOR. As a former member of the relevant club and having raced and trained with the 3 cyclists in this incident, and for whom I carry no brief, I make contribution to this unfortunate situation as follows: 1. I have personal experience of and would vouch for their road ettiquette. 2. I would say it highly unlikely that they would be found in the middle of the road AT ANY POINT. 3. If they were descending, their speed would likely be 45 - 60kmh, certainly not an obstruction to a law-abiding driver at 06h21 in my opinion. 4. The club concerned takes great care in ensuring that their groups cycle in manageable bunches with no more than 2 abreast - the slower groups being marshalled (as I have done) to ride 2 abreast and be warned of traffic from the rear for safety and out of consideration for motorists wanting to pass. 5. I have also been a victim of 'buzzing' in the area by high-speeding and aggressive motorists. 6. I believe that cyclists are merely a microcosm of society in general and cannot be lumped together as certain cradle residents seem prone to do. Participants in this forum would in the main be experienced, considerate, and responsible road users who are the converted. It is no wonder they take umbrage at the behaviour and threats of those who claim that constitutionally protected public property belongs to them, which amounts to vigilantism in my opinion. The cyclists who unfortunately cause the headaches ARE GENERALLY NOT PART OF THE CLUB RIDES although some may wear club kit. These are typically less experienced "funriders" getting fit for the 94.7 (in Spring when this debate first arose), and then died down, and for the Argus (and surprise surprise the issue flares up again). After the Argus this problem will go away as the numbers dwindle. It happens every year. 7. The disruption happens on the weekends from about 06h30 till about 09h30 and then the cyclists go home. This is for about 10 weeks before the 2 big races, or about 20 weeks per year, 3 hours for 2 weekend days per week - probably at worst 120 hours per year. (A year has 8760 hours), making this a challenge to the residents for 1,36% of their year. Assuming the residents work during the week, they should instead of driving around at law-breaking speeds early in the morning looking to vent their frustrations, enjoy the morning tranquility of their privileged circumstance and stay at home. If they need to go into town, they should plan their weekend trips for a decent hour. Easy - compromise, everybody happy. 8. I suspect that the vociferous threatening few are in the minority, as typically extremists would be. I suspect that they see ALL cyclists as your atypical aggressive lawbreaker who need to be taught a lesson and choose not to distinguish between those who are a menace and those who are not. Tha t unsociuiablegroup of cyclists are also a minority who probably belong in the same group of personality traits as the residents and who don't participate in cycling forums such as this. 9. I believe these cyclists need educating by interested parties as to; a) the health risks of their behaviour b) the fact that the roads are also for the use of others, and c) that riding in a responsible way makes for good neighbourliness. 10. Some of the posters on this thread should be barred in the interests of promoting good relations and that the rule of " If you have nothing positive to say, say nothing" should be implemented by administrators. This issue is far too important for people to get personal. Indeed, are the administrators watching this thread? 11. I like to cycle in the cradle (haven't done so for some time) and would like to return there to cycle in safety. 12. I would appeal to those (and directly to the law) who are affected by the unsociable behaviour of riders, motorcyclists and drivers to petition those who are employed to protect and serve, to patrol and to fine offenders, who ride where they shouldn't, speed or drive recklessly. Their presence would be welcome in the interests of safety, I'm sure.

  16. PostNet to PostNet Courier. Costs a bit more but it works. You get SMS'd to say your parcel has arrived and you can track it. And the wbsite works.

  18. Alternatively, take your hrm but put a piece of tape over the screen so that you are rather focusing on smelling the roses than staying within the zone. FORGET about all other cyclists on the road and use the time on your bike to get to know your body "in action" again. Listen to your breathing, your legs, find a balance between going too hard on the cadence or the gears so that you can keep your hr low but not strain tendons, causing overuse injuries. Do not watch average speed and ride a bit less for the first few rides. Averaging 60% is a bit low and will bring about a slower adaptation than 65-75% Take off the tape and record your results. Recover (48hrs) and repeat. By the 3rd ride you'll be doing the same with less effort. After 2 weeks you'll be ready to go further and your hr will not flip at the sight of a bump. Also a higher hr for short intervals is not bad for you, gets you fitter faster. So if you are doing a climb let it go up, recover afterwards. The 'fat burning zone' concept is ok if you can ride for several hours. You burn more fat at higher intensity. The issue is that you need to get fit enough to ride at a higher intensity for longer. Losing weight takes time. Set your goals for a year, or 6 months, aiming to lose no more than 1kg per month. Too much too soon and you'll lose interest.

  21. Slow I think that a perception exists that CSA does not react well to criticism. This is an emotive issue. There are people who put a lot of time, effort and scarce resources into the sport in the name of development, voluntarily.
  22. Owen in the case of the girls to worlds this year I disagree. When it was informally put to a decision maker to give the nod should the riders provide the funds, this was not an option (in the name of their development you understand).
  23. I believe the decision was Barry's call. The decision was supposedly going to be made on their performances in crit racing on the flat circuits in Belgium/netherlands. I believe that CSA needs to decide on a rider's performances at home and then provide proper support for their journey to race the race of their lives. Youngsters who are not accustomed to being away from their families are asked to produce the goods without the support of their coaches/families. This in their grade 11 and matric years. There is a school of thought that is pro home schooling which is a hard call to make for an academically inclined rider. The CSA plan for next year is to send riders for a 3 month stint to prepare for worlds. I believe a short 3 week visit to Italy (where Worlds will be held) will accomplish visualization. The riders should then return home to prepare, knowing what to expect in terms of the course. They should then return a week or 2 before. The support staff envisaged looks like the deal. It is also my opinion that there exists the belief that they have to TUFFEN UPP to get up to standards. This is is somewhat kampstaaldraadian. Decide on the talent. And then back your decision. On the question of places, there were 4 rides available at worlds for the junior ladies cat, and tickets from Europe to Moscow available at E250. I believe the call was made and was in line with CSA's original plan to send only 1 girl as per their strat plan (see the CSA site). The upside is the other 2 girls selected are 1st years. The process is definitely moving forward though, so qdos to CSA for the process. The execution needs work though, with the right people involved.
