  1. just discovered a crack in the frame too. #fml
  2. PM'd. Reg Lizard:
  3. Yeah, taking Karma's advice and moving on, lessons learnt with some school fees on the side. His car had a tyre mark on it. Those AM Classic's are like tin foil.
  4. There'll be boerie rolls and horrogs (hot dogs) and beer for sale there, but bring cash dollah. While tomorrow is gonna be somewhat unpleasant weather, Sunday's forecast is a little nippy at 7am - 6 degrees, warming up to 16 by 1pm. Partly cloudy, with 10km/h winds.
  5. There's lots of roadies here....
  6. Johan, I think he probably means "less rolling resistance".
  7. I think Ron's will roll a bit quicker but wear faster than Ralphs. +1 on the snakeskin for durability.
  8. ^ what he said. Just a note that I'm in no way officially involved with the event, besides shamelessly punting it and being a resident on the conservancy. I moved out onto the Rhenosterspruit Conservancy just over 5 months ago, and moving from early morning dirt road or night rides in North Riding / Lonehill / Fourways to this has been phenomenal. I've learnt that when you ride into a herd of 20-30 wildebeest with eyes glowing like demons in the LEDs at 9pm, you truly KUK yourself. I spoke to one of the organizers to get clearance to post this event and share what I'm sure will be a pretty awesome ride with fellow hubbers. Here's a few of the pics I've taken on rides over the last 5 months of living out on the Rhenoster. These are on occassion that I actually stop to take out my phone for a snap... most of the rides I selfishly keep to myself in my head https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m6zeetpmi3i30cl/xyD59GhEpm The pic of the well-maintained lawn is of base (Owl River Lodge) that opened its doors to MTBers 3 or 4 weeks ago with some virgin trails having just being built. Hope to see you there.

    Build a bridge.............
  10. Thanks Falco, was looking for that sort of feedback.
  11. Believe me, that's definitely been foremost in my mind - silently saying my thanks. Took an hour off this morning to have breakfast with my eldest, don't often get 1-on-1 opportunities. But going to try submit a claim to get this sorted with his 3rd party cover. If it becomes too much of a headache, then will let it go, but worth a shot at least.
  12. Thanks H. Definitely came off lightly there. I know you were somehow involved... maybe cos I was trying to ride at your pace. Phoned the oke last night, "it wasn't my fault, i take no responsibility for the matter". This is gonna be fun.....
  13. Wish I knew, emailed racephoto.co.za on Monday asking if they knew the ETA and still don't have a response.
  14. Only in the basement. Only problem I have with mine is that it freezes when I try load a course to ride. But it doesn't sound like its a common problem, and I probably just need to get into Garmin to get it checked out.
  15. could have sworn there was another thread like this not even 2 hours ago. *edit* indeed there was - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/130330-edge-500pefromance-bundle-or-edge-510-performance-bundle/
  16. one of the big differences is that the 500 is ANT+, while the 510 is bluetooth (and ANT+ too i think).
  17. Thanks stig. that's what I had in mind. The funniest part of it all was that he got out of his car and first response is "It's ok, I'm not going to sue you for this". took a deep breath and took down his details with little conversation. If there was any question of me footing the bill myself, his arrogance is probably the only thing bugging about the incident. My gf was 3m in front of me in the traffic. Big thank you to you babe for staying calm. sorry about the scare.
  18. yeah, first thing i said. bless the powers that be for just superficial scrapings. really feeling grateful right now about it.
  19. I know Giant. I've been threatening to sit down with a certain hubber / broker for months to get it sorted. Karma's just given me incentive.
  20. sometimes 40km, from out past Lanseria to Sandton. Today: 2.7km :-/
  21. The juicy bits... thankful for helmet. Nice roasties.. knee elbow good one on my ass too, but it's breakfast time, so will leave those off for your sake. And the less important aspect... equipment damage. Less than 200km on the rims mew.
  22. So I had my first cycling accident today. Ironically, it was on the road. Heading down Bryanston drive past Riverside shopping centre towards the Spruit, a car heading up from the circle was turning right into the centre as I was heading down (a car heading in the same direction as me had stopped with a gap to let him through). Was not able to stop in time as he turned in front of me and connected with the front right. Somersaulted over the car, head first and then onto my back. All I can say is thank goodness for the helmet and backpack. Will be going to the cop shop just now to open a case. I wanted to ask some advice from hubbers with regards to the situation - the driver was not able to see me, and I was probably going a little quicker than I should have, although I did have right of way (correct me if I'm wrong?). I don't have bike insurance. What should I do with regards to damage to the bike? Foot the bill myself or take it up with his insurance? Any other advice for what I need to do?
  23. Use a reference of "thehubsa" on the entry.
  24. Event Name: Ride The Rhenoster When: 1 September 2013 Where: rhenosterspruit conservancy, Gauteng Category: MTB The annual Mountain Bike Event is here again! Consensus is that this is a tough, technical ride! Join us on Sunday 1 September. A diverse technical trail is available only ONCE in a year to a small field of Riders. The ride is open to all nature lovers, and people who want to make a contribution to conservation. Ride the Rhenoster is a fund raising event for Conservation. This event is an opportunity for Mountain Bikers to give back to the landowners who protect the limited open space in Gauteng. Landowners carry the responsibility and costs of protecting an area of great ecological value. The heritage value of the area is also significant, being on the same dolomitic structure as the Cradle of Humankind. Read more about what make this area worth protecting. http://www.ridetherhenoster.co.za/images/booknow.png The trail is designed by Miles Crisp and an intrepid team of riders. The trail is well-tested before the event. All these riders give their time, energy and talent without compensation. "Having this natural space to come and enjoy is a great priviledge. This close to Joburg is a bonus!" Sir Juice is sponsoring energy drinks and juices at the mid-way point. Cost is R180 per rider, with all proceeds to Conservation. The field is capped to 350, so book your place as soon as possible. There's about 100 entries available at the time of the event posting. Your booking is confirmed on receipt of payment. No cash taken on the day of the event. Distance: approximately 40km. A shorter circuit of about 20km will also be available for those feeling less fit, or less comfortable with a long technical ride. Because all proceeds go towards the conservancy, the price is the same for the 20km. Start & Finish: The Ride leaves and returns to a host site about 6.5 kilometers north of Lanseria Airport. The venue is accessed from the R512. Directions sent with confirmation of booking. Go to Event Page
