  1. is this the same venue as www.nightride.co.za on the 1st dec?
  2. so its sort of like a medium?
  3. i would ride in if I had a shower at our offices . Drive North Riding -> Bryanston, drop the kids @ school. Bryanston -> Sandton would be geat on mtb, get there in half the time.
  4. gave it a ride last week and on Monday this week. It was about 10km from the Caltex on Witkoppen and a lekker ride. Watch out for the gate just over the bridge behind lonehill shopping centre (just off crestwood after the church / nature reserve), it only opens at 5:30.
  5. Definitely. One of my mates was coming down a hill, when the lady in front of him failed to uncleat herself and fell into his path. +- 40km/h into her head, proceeding to knock her unconscious for a minute or 2 and a front flip + somersault on his side and some decent roasties. Thankfully the paramedics were nearby to assist. She came to and seemed to be ok before he continued his ride. Thank goodness for helmets. (hers was cracked). Hope you're ok lady.
  6. Been riding for a few months and really enjoyed the ride, thanks to all that were a part of it. My first event Was a bit apprehensive of the 55, so did the 30 (B7 - right from the back) and managed a 1h54 with lots left in my legs. Definitely up for the 55 next year.
  7. I started riding with cleats a month ago. First week, constant cramps just behind the ball of my right foot (I am left footed, if that makes a difference). Week 2: raised my seat a few cm's, as I wasn't extending my legs properly when pedalling - not a single cramp since. I also spoke to one of the guys from Linden cycles, and they said I could come in to set cleats and bike up, I am sure you could go to a reputable shop in your area and get some assistance...

    Carbon detail

    Thanks
  9. So after reading through some of the topics on China carbon frames, I decided to do a bit of investigating, and found 2 relatively well-priced suppliers. Still new to biking though, and wondering if someone could explain specs that were sent back by the suppliers on details of the frames and what it means. All feedback on the topic welcome: the weave 3k/12k/UD - assuming this is the quality of the carbon. I read up that UD is "uni directional" and assuming that this would affect the durability of the frame? cross weave sounds more stable to me... 3k is a little flexible, while 12k is stiff. how would this affect riding in different conditions? BB: BSA/BB30 - different options on the bearing, what's the difference? I'm considering the frame as a replacement for a Silverback Vida build up, and wondering what I need to look out for other than the BB and carbon weave (or rather just stick to an established brand?). Looks like the warranty on it is 2 years, don't most locally frame suppliers offer a lifetime warranty?
  10. I picked up a similar spec'd 29er (different rims and shock, decent saddle, SLX shifters & brakes on a Silverback Vida frame). Previously had an entry level 26er, and am completely loving it the new ride, much better experience (after about 4 or 5 months of riding)! its a comfortable ride, and do not regret going with lower spec'd 29er over better 26er (i was considering 26er DS). Was fortunate enough to get a great deal on it from Xtreme Cycles in Klerksdorp. ( https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/41588-silverback-vida-build-up-29er/ ). I think the transition from egg beaters to cleats has also contributed to a better riding experience.
  11. with regards to the QA on hong fu, of course they test their stuff, it even says so on their home page. I mean... this gives me complete confidence Quality Examination The company has purchased a set of latest quality examination equipment, and all the products are being manufactured and examined by strictly following the Examination Standard newly issued by the European Union.

    Fake buyer

Hiya, I recently had someone trying to buy a bike I had on offer, sending a fake EFT confirmation (obviously, I called his financial institution to verify the ref number before handing over the bike). Be aware of a "B. Matthews" with number 079 765 9810 from the houghton (Louis Botha), Johannesburg area. Also watch out for 078 542 0759, a colleague of his.
  13. Been reading up on the differences between mens and ladies frames, and came across this: http://bikeshopgirl.com/2011/03/why-womens-specific-29ers-dont-work/, for interests sake.
