  1. Thanks, not many of them around - so it should be spotted at some time! Not sure why they would go for a 24" bike
  2. Hi all My little cousin's kona stinky was stolen from his home in lakeside. 24 inch, black with a black front rs single crown fork, and coil shock. The front downtube has been welded (with a short 4" piece added) and sprayed black. Devastating, he was heading this way this weekend to ride the Gansbaai downhills. Please keep a lookout!
  3. I just did my rockshox revelation (the oils I already had from a previous service, but they can cost anything from R100 to R200 per liter. The kit you get includes everything and some more (includes O-rings, new air caps, C-clasps, ring clasps, and new valves and dust wipers.) The total seal cost comes to about R500 for a dual air U-turn if you buy it retail, so R750 seem OK on a dual air if you do everything.
  4. Event Name: 2014 Funky Fynbos Festival MTB And Trail Run, Gansbaai When: 13 September 2014 Where: Gansbaai, Western Cape Category: MTB The event will indeed happen on the 13th of September 2014. It will form part of the Rockets Funky Fynbos Festival that will include a trail run on the Sunday as well as loads to do for all. Family fun! The flagship route will be the 40km. Don't let the distance fool you, this is a tough ride, but well worth it. It is a true mountain route, the views, the natural habitat, unspoilt fynbos wilderness and the fun factor will be well worth the weekend trek. The climbs are tough, but the downhills fun, and will suite all riding styles, single track, rough jeep track and more single track!. This year it is organised by the local farm community - so should retain it's original vibe, but with much more added! Route maps and profiles here http://mysite.mweb.co.za/residents/jcl/2014%20gansbaai%20maps.html There will be cool goodie bags (ice pack, mohair socks) at registration on the Friday. Late entries will be accepted on Saturday from 6am. More details will follow! Here is a brief preview of the first climb and descent of the mtb route. We have added a new jump and added it to the video, as well as saved it in higher quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzXV8xhmZMY Here is part three, the third climb of the 41km. Amazing views as well as a long downhill with the sea view as your backdrop. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/VEgXS2aQm7A Part two is the downhill of the second climb - enjoy! http://youtu.be/NkN-ReM5IgU 2012 Event Go to Event Page
  5. Yep - you need to be able to at least lift the front wheel. At first drop your seat as low as it can go to help the learning process. Start small (always have a target - it helps. A 5 litre plastic bottle is good) You need to use your legs a bit more than what you think! Lift the front as you approach, jump to get height *straighten your legs!) and push the bar forward to keep the bike connected to your feet. (the J motion) Practice is good!
  6. It takes a while to get used to the flat pedals. I bought an inexpensive set from Crown Cycles with 10 studs. Good shoes is a must and must have a flat soft sole. For your first technical climb (ie loose rocky and steep climb) wear shin guards. Your foot tends to come off when the back wheel hits an obstacle. Once you have learnt to 'pull' with flats you can climb anything. You descend with much more control too as you can now put your foot more square on the pedal with less strain on the calf muscle. If you changed because of your knee then be careful where you position your foot. Ride with the pedal on the ball of your foot for general riding, but for steep climbs move it slight back towards the middle. Enjoy - your riding skills will improve!
  7. Johan, do you service the older scott tc shocks as well? And can we also get RS motion control dampers from you. Looking for an Argyle or Tora unit.

    20 inch mtb

Small kid - small wheels. Don't go 26 too soon. They can learn all kinds of stuff on the 20 and 24' bikes. Much easier to jump, whip and go flat with a small wheel initially. We went 20 (diamong back) 24 (merida) and 26 (voltage). He has now got himself a bmx again to learn some new stuff. So yes economically best to probably go xs 26, but then they might miss out on some serious fun!

  19. To answer you question though - this could possibly be the quickest way http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=N2,+Mowbray,+Cape+Town,+Western+Cape,+South+Africa&daddr=-34.33632,19.6329+to:Unknown+road&hl=en&ll=-34.429567,19.25766&spn=0.603743,1.234589&sll=-34.359309,19.680634&sspn=0.60425,1.234589&geocode=FdcD-v0dhBwaASnHHLPtv-aFHjFmicJvfacVAw%3BFcAR9P0dBJMrASn7rP24Ef_RHTFmIKHXFskS_w%3BFXeA8P0dNQwpAQ&t=h&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=10&via=1&z=10
  20. I would say for Sat morning the best way would be via Hermanus http://maps.google.c...z=11&via=1&z=11 If you are in a hurry then via Caledon could be quicker, but if you take a wrong turn........ A short cut would be to go via Grootbos, but be aware that this is on a gravel road with a steep downhill. The directions below are from Stanford to de Uijlenes via Grootbos. http://maps.google.c...&sz=15&t=m&z=13

Hot showers, and farm style burgers, chicken wraps, sandwiches and then some healthy eats (salads, nuts etc - Staci is going all out) as well as juices, coke, and other drinks will be for sale. This will be finalised next week as we might add soup if it looks like it could be cold. Leon Carstens will be providing some live entertainment as well as a very good sound system!
