  1. I'd definitely want to try some other riding, too. Most of my riding has been in the Western Cape to date and that said, not even that much of it, so I will likely be blown away by how different it is. So far I've only ever drooled about riding in areas like that.
  2. That's a fair point, we don't have those kinds of descents around here, especially riding around the Tygerberg. The trails here are fun, but really not very technical, aside from Contermanskloof's harder trails. My issue is just the cost of hiring. If it's R1500 a day, that adds up very quickly, so it may be worth investigating buying a DH whilst I'm in the States and have time to look around before I go up to Whistler.
  3. That says quite a lot, since that guy is way more talented than I'll ever hope to be.
  4. So, it looks like anything upward of R1500 a day, which is pretty steep if I do a 2 week trip.
  5. Oh no! Guess I'm buggered then 😂
  6. I know, it's just that I feel A Line is so iconic, I can't miss it. I'll be doing a deep dive on the trails before I go to plan what to ride. I probably won't be going again after this, so I want to be sure I make the most of this trip!
  7. That's what I'm hoping, I'm not going to try and ride Dirt Merchant, I don't have a death wish, but if I can do all of A Line on the bike, I'd be happy. I'm not too stressed about riding tech, you can get away with less suspension if you go slower, in my experience.
  8. Honestly, it's the best upgrade you could do to any bike, I'd have a hard time deciding between a full suspension without a dropper or a hardtail with one. A good, affordable option is one from Lyne, had one on my previous bike.
  9. So, the stars seem to be aligning for me to take a trip to the US next year for work and I want to try and come home via Whistler. It's a lot cheaper getting to Canada from the States than from SA. My question, though, is whether my Hyrax will be up to the task. I particularly want to be able to ride A Line, since there's no way I'd go there and not try it. I have my Hyrax set up with 160mm travel on a DVO Diamond fork and I'll be getting an X Fusion coil shock on the rear for 140mm travel. I'm just wondering if that is enough suspension? Can anyone who has been there weigh in and give advice?
  10. Thanks, I'll see what I can work out. Worst case I'll ride the farm roads around the area.
  11. Thanks, I'll have a look at the route!
  12. I'm guessing they'd be able to point me in the right direction then?
  13. Good day all! So, I'm heading to Riverdale for a week at the end of April and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for mountain biking routes? I had a quick look on Trailforks in the area, but didn't see any routes. I'm not sure if there are any dedicated routes around there that aren't showing up. I'd appreciate any suggestions! (Otherwise it will be me with a trail bike on the farm roads )
  14. Not sure, but that ridge at the bottom feels a bit like what Atherton bikes do with carbon fibre tubes and titanium joints. Maybe a new bike with a combination of aluminium and carbon? Could even be a variation of the Evoke?
  15. I feel like the industry is hitting a plateau, bikes have gotten so good that it's difficult to make real gains, we're at incremental changes now, cellphones are further along that path, but it's a similar situation. Now companies want to make gimmicks to sell us so that we upgrade our bikes that are already perfectly fine. It's great that they want to innovate, but if it's just for its own sake, I think it's dumb. I love new stuff on my bike, but I ask myself, is this actually improving my ride?
  16. This whole system seems pointless to me, I run a SRAM GX Eagle, 10-52 cassette. It is simplicity itself and I never have any issues, might need a tiny barrel adjuster setting every couple of months, but I'm talking 2 clicks. Going back to a 2x system, in effect, you have to think about gearing again, as well as chain line. Seems like a step in the wrong direction, at least for mountain biking.
  17. I have the Hyrax and I've found it to be great overall. I'm more focused on riding downhill, but you need to get up to the top first and for that the bike pedals fine, even with me having it in the low setting with 160mm travel up front. You can make it pedal easier if you spec it with a 140mm travel fork, running the rear in high.and running the bars lower and maybe putting on a faster rolling tyre. I think you'll be able to get the best of both worlds and then you can always spec it for more gnarly stuff if you want. If you get it with the DVO Diamond fork, you can set it internally from 140 to 160, so you have options.
  18. Sweet, I really like the colour!
  19. I sincerely hope this is a joke, I was already dying my hair blonde and cutting it in the appropriate manner to speak to the manager.
  20. Thanks, I also spoke to someone at Pyga who confirmed that they just pulled apart once the bolts are out. I just used my hands to lever them apart and with a little bit of force they came apart. Managed to take apart all the bushings and o rings to clean it out.
  21. Hi all, So I'm not sure where to start, but since this is all Pyga owners, I thought this is a good place. I want to service the pivots on my Hyrax, but after taking out some of the bolts on the seat stay arms, I noticed that the pivot isn't coming apart. There seems to be a bush in there and I'm not sure how to actually get it out to take apart the rear triangle. I don't want to risk damage by forcing it out incorrectly. Can anyone help? Looking at the exploded view, it's probably item 9 and 10, the clevis tophats. I looked on the Pyga website, but they don't have anything aside from the torque value sheet.
  22. Does anyone have a phone number for Armour Ride? I checked the website, but I can't see an office number. I'm looking for a wrap for my fork, so I want to ask if they can help me out. Thanks
  23. Oh, ok. Thanks. I just bought a new Pyga Hyrax, so was wondering how the support is.
  24. Hi, just stumbled across this thread. Was there any feedback on the warranty claim?
  25. Hi all, I've been on the forum since last year, bought my mountain bike from the classifieds. I'm not new to mountain biking, but I was out of the sport since high school in 2008. I stay in Durbanville and I'm loving the trails around here. I'm looking for some people to ride with, so if anyone is open to one more person joining, please DM me. I'm fairly unfit at present, but I'm fast on the downhill and technical sections. I'm trying to cycle daily to work on the fitness side. I love any form of jumps on the trail and I try and push my technical riding as hard as I can.
