  1. Ill start a thread in the Gravity section just now ... But lets just say this - 11 stages - total descent about 5700m Winning time over 4 timed stages .... 47 minutes!
  2. Our bikes with the help of Detour Trails, and CMH Nissan Pinetown took us to Lesotho ... .... The wife descending over 700m into the Senqu River valley on stage 10 of the Lesotho Mega Enduro
  3. Yes - BUT - there are also tickets for non-gondala passes ... 17 Pounds entry (R289) entry at Fort William for the day with no gondala access.
  4. Okes cant complain about R100 to get in to a world cup. I think PMB was very reasonable if you compare with other world cups... here are the prices from Andorra PROMOTIONSForfait Bike: 29, 30 and August 31thAdults 15€ | Children 10€Partially open.Price per day. Forfait Saison World CupAdults 60€ | Children30€Valid for the gondola from 1/9/16.Valid for the circuits from 5/9/16. --------- And then Fort William:see the image
  5. The issues for SA isnt the length of the tracks but the access and logistics that go into hosting a DH race. Although Jonkers has a lot of elevation the access is fire/forestry roads and is slow if i recall. Under the rulings you need to have shuttle/lift access that will allow 100 riders per hour up the hill. Then the issue is having a venue with a large enough finish area to accommodate the teams etc. If there is a dual event (XCO and DH) the venue needs to have a centralised service/pit area as this saves costs (they can be seperate but at major costs) The other issue is that when Stellenbosch hosted the world cups in the late 1990's the riders also complained that the tracks were to straight forward and not technical enough. So again I dont think there is the natural tracks that the UCI are looking for in SA. So DH is a bit of a non-starter and although I dont see why it couldnt come back, I think the UCI teams (and UCI co-ordinators) will shy away from SA due to the previous comments about Stellenbosch and PMB - where the riders etc said the course was not World Cup standard. .... XCO however makes perfect sense and its great to see this coming back. I think Cape Town will be the perfect venue to host the racing and with the Argus and Epic in teh mix it makes perfect sense to have bid for the event. Good luck to the organisers - I think its going to be a cracker
  6. Thats not bad for a ski holiday dude. Some other oke there also from SA paid 50k for the same thing basically.
  7. Club Med is AMAZING. The bar is always open. They have a self service draught machine!!!! When you sit down to lunch or dinner and order a glass of red wine ... you get a bottle!. Hahahaha Every night there is a show in the hotel. And then a party in the bar. So much fun if you are there as a group
  8. We got a great deal through a mate at a travel agent here in hillcrest. It ended up being R35000 per person all inclusive at Club Med. That included Flights Transfers Accommodation ALL Drinks (alcoholic included) ALL meals Ski pass Ski hire Ski school For 8 nights in Avoriaz. And 6 days of skiing. We also flew Emirates direct from Durban.
  9. The snow wasn't the best the week before we left. ... but there was a massive fall two days before we arrived. So 90% of the slopes were open. But as we were rank amateurs we spent all our time on the green and blue slopes. Some of those blues get properly steep. ... We then also had an extra metre of snow while we were there. It was amazing walking around in the snow in avoriaz town. Skiing in the snow wasn't the best as you often had white out and couldn't see anything or make out definition in the slopes. But during this time we spent our afternoons on the lower slopes. We then hit the high slopes in the mornings. It was so good. Honestly I think it was better than a riding holiday.
  10. It was amazing Duane. Avoriaz is so beautiful in winter. The views are just incredible. We spent most of our time up top above avoriaz and on the Les Lindarets side. We couldn't go down to morzine as there wasn't enough snow that far down for the green slopes around the zore and super morzine lifts to be open.
  11. It a great spot in Winter too. Just got back.
  12. then the track in PTA - from Claudio's instagram
  13. what some of their tracks look like http://velosolutions.lv/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/14301939632_b519dbbff5_o1.jpg http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p4pb11743414/p4pb11743414.jpg http://www.bikemag.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Velosolutions-Asphalt-Pumptrack-Mountainbike-NewYork-City-Williamsburg-Overview.jpg
  14. Its being built by Velosolutions - world class pumptrack and park building company owned by Claudio Calouri of World Cup Downhill Commentary fame. https://velosolutions.com/en/
  15. Didnt make the selection criteria based on UCI and CSA regulations. ... This has brought about a rethink in the criteria - which I personally think is needed for SA.
  16. Greg does not stay with the team ... he stays with the Syndicate at Worlds ... if you look at all the Worlds pictures from previous years neither Minnaar or Needles are in the pics as they are with their respective trade teams ... Although Pottie and Stefan are on teams they are essentially "privateers" so can gain from the funding for accommodation and meals etc supplied by CSA for worlds. Its the same in the pits at Worlds ... as the Syndicate have paid for a stand Greg Pits there and not with the SA team who pit out of a small trailer with a single gazebo ...
  17. Was a great event - that is a proper testing track. WOW. Was fun to sit on the side and shout at the riders. Well done to Nick Floros and Tim Bentley and the rest of the KZN DH community who helped set the track up.
  18. what the Media squids at EWS are using now to get around the stages fast http://www.cube.eu/media_ftp/BIKE_Bilder_2016/774500/774500_light.jpg
  19. I highly doubt it The track - although at the correct level - ends in the middle of nowhere. There are no facilities there and no-where for there to be a large pit area needed for a world cup. Also Shuttles from there are a bit of a mission for a large event like a world cup as the shuttles need to use Rut Hill and it wouldnt handle the volume of vehicles needed. Great to have a proper steep track though
  20. There are a good few lines at the top in the first rocks - then its a bit one-lined to the first steep section. Thats pretty tight next to a cliff face so again onelined until you turn onto Timmys section. From there through the cambers there is a lot of line choice over a 3m wide section of cleared track. Then that next rock section has a few lines - then the main cambers are sort of onelined, then the bottom has some different line options. So a bit of both - but it is quite narrow - so you need to be creative to get off the sheep line
  21. The Ndiza was the 4 inch travel 4 cross bike
