  1. Any experience with their cassette brand ???
  2. This exactly happened with Ciovita and an Assos pair of mine
  3. I have only had one ciovita that developed a thin triangle above the shammy at the back .Two assos did the same .The assos were winter ones ,so maybe the fabric is different for warmer fabric .I find the new assos GT range to be robust .
  4. I think the quality of fabric is different .I have assos that i bought in 2012 still going strong .They become bleached by sunlight but fabric still good .I also have pairs that are fine everywhere except a triangle above the shammy stitching that have worn very thin while the rest is still excellent .I thought it could be due to baggies that touch that area . Is there somebody that can repair these ?
  5. Took me years to memorize my number ,then my chip failed AAaaagg!!!
  6. Same story i heard from riders ,eyewitnesses .There is lots of room on that stretch , but i did see construction trucks on the left .In fact i stopped and inflated my tyre on the right side watching a truck coming towards me .If you were riding in a group things get sketchy ,as there is only a small smooth line between corrugations .At speed you will most certainly slide if you make a sudden turn ,and that is what was described to me .Trying to avoid the taxi passing the truck and his bike not going where he was steering .For me the worst part was the first tar section in Britz . Some huge trucks with trailers passing me and then a group of riders with a demon chasing them coming past . As quickly as a followed them i pulled out .It felt unsafe and the front riders went down . There was another incident on the last long tar section where a car passed a truck coming towards me and was using my whole lane until the very last second it swerved back in front of the truck .
  7. My first R2TS was on a full sus ,second one was on a hardtail and 2024 on a gravel bike .My times were almost exactly the same but with the gravel bike the effort was substantially less . My average heart rate was 20 beats per minute less with the gravel bike .I found that the thinner gravel tyres sliced through the sand easier than a mountain bike that floats on top . The 2 x 11 gearing is also a big advantage and the multiple hand positions help a lot . I picked up two punctures with the gravel bike and still rode the same pace using less energy
  8. Old Garmin trick .I am on my Fenix 7x .My 5x works perfectly except for the battery .My son in law wears it and it is 7 years old .The 5x has a Sapphire watch face and still in excellent condition .Garmin solution is discount on a new 20k 7x .Cost of the 5x was 5k . Garmin has no interest in changing batteries .Will not buy again .Huawei makes a decent watch at 25% of garmin cost
  9. Difficult call to make on bicycle type and tyre choice .You have to choose your pain .Personally i think an XC bike with big gearing is the best and probably as fast as a gravel bike .Old style XC bike 100mm travel with 2 x 11 would be perfect.
  10. Shuttles back from Sun City to Harties are sold out . Anybody else have a plan / spot for two riders back to schoemansville please .
  11. Muscle power is directly related to the length of the muscle .Long muscles will always be stronger than the same weight shorter one
  12. Depends on the frame .I have a Topstone carbon frame with the compliance linkage frame and alu wheels . I can feel the frame taking the knocks at the rear while the front is more harsh on the carbon fork .It took me long before i pulled the trigger on the right bike for me .I also have a spez roubaix with future shock .I would rather pay more for a more supple frame like Diverge ,Topstone ,Revolt and worry less about the wheels .Tyre choice is way more important than the wheel rim material
  13. That velcro saddle bag strap is a bugger .One ride with new bibs and it made hole
  14. I did the unthinkable and changed colours .It was spotted from space
  15. I have several bikes of each category except downhill .As somebody that has gone over to the dark side on a gravel bike , i need to reduce and sell some bikes . I will keep the gravel and DS and the road and 'very nice ' hardtail can all go
  16. You have your answer
  17. Male currently Age 55 years 194 cm Weight 107kg . Shoe size 48 .Ten years ago it was a 46 ? Dyslexic I think ? I get emotionally attached to material things XL or XXL in MTB sizes BMC TM Road 60cm Pinarello 62cm Spez Roubaix 60 cm Cannondale gravel XL
  18. I bought a Topstone end of last year .Only bike in 15 years that is as close to complete as i have ever owned .By complete i mean 2 x 11 GRX as above . Kingpin frame works .Tyre clearance is plenty .Running vittorio dry 38 mm .Durable and smooth enough tyres to race on tar . I can climb faster than my mountain bike .Flat dirt road is way faster than a mtb and close to a road bike on tar .Descents are a problem at speed only .The camber tends to rule your front tyre on a gravel bike when descending on a dirt road .All of this carrying two bottles and riding in a comfortable position
  19. If they send an Uber to collect it is a scam .An uber driver saved us from a scam .When he saw the delivery address he told us it was a scammer that he delivered to previously
  20. Fatbikes are for snow and sand and nothing else . Most people in RSA don,t ride long distances on sand
  21. I think the riding position on a gravel bike is more natural and more comfortable than a road or mountain bike . Combine that with proper go anywhere tyres and wide range groupset '2 x ' with disc brakes and like me , you will push the boundaries soon and realize that it is only the worst of technical descends that are non gravel bike rideable , plus you can race with the roadies
  22. Ocean glasses make a slightly tinted photo chromatic pair that work perfectly .I have had all the Rudy,s Adidas,Oakley .Now i only buy cheap ones that work at Cape union mart or ocean glasses at the surf shop or some of the golf course pro shops .Some of the best pairs were bought at cash converters .Photo chromatic layers only last about two years ,then they make bubbles or become opaque
  23. The truth about completing an Epic is that anybody with moderate ability can finish .The catch is how much preparation and vasbyt you mixed in before and during the event . For some it just another event . For others it is the single biggest accomplishment of their lives . It is now five years since i received my medal . I know how much effort it took . I follow friends every year and watch anxiously as time passes and when they don,t move along i know how deep they are digging .Burry knew this
  24. The riders come from places that people do ride like south america and Spain .One year there were many Belgians and in 2019 there was a big team from Colombia
