  1. I believe the roadworks is complete, so you can now ride past front of city hall.
  2. So you guys planning on about 12 days to Rhodes? Long trip should be awesome.
  3. Howzit, are you doing race2rhodes 2014, in June? We going to try do glen Edward to Rhodes in April, before the r2r in June, so we would have done the whole distance before the actual race. We great if you joined us for route scout. U riding ss or gears?
  4. We actually did buy all 8 packets of salt n vinegar chips that he had!
  5. these shops are like gold on the trails. So much of stuff to eat and drink, you almost go delirious, buying everything and then eating everything you can as fast as possible, even tho breakfast was 60 mins ago! then you tuck the rest away in the saddle bags and man, when you pull that stuff out later, in the middle of nowhere, its like a gold mine all over again! A sad part of it, is seeing the people hanging around outside the shop, living on the breadline, and we buying all these treats, but some cash and treats were left for them, hopefully making a small difference in their lives...
  6. the last couple
  7. a couple more
  8. What a ride. this is something every mountain biker should do, at least once. Twice if you like it.... We we fortunate with very few mechanicals, and only one small crash, some of the times was extremely remote. What a great bunch of mates I shared this with.
  9. It was time to mix it up a bit on the PYGA, retire it from Marathons and aim at the trails. Rocket Ron, 140mm fork, 1x10 with clutch and raceface chainring, Avid XO Trail Brakes, dropper post, comfy seat etc, looking forward to smashing some Burg trails on it this weekend!
  10. Climbing out of Ntsikeni.
  11. Now, that above is the truest word ever spoken. Since the first few hours, thru all the pain and the highs and lows, now it's over and I cannot think about anything else. Already planning the next 3 day tour to Rhodes, then it's race time come June! Will post some pics tomorrow. It was unlike any other thing i have ever done. If you feeling very brave and want to experience parts of our beautiful country untouched, do this thing.
  12. Are you guys leaving from the city hall? What time. We will try come and see you off. How many days are you doing?
  13. On top of the world, heading for Ntsikeni
  14. thanks Tubed, and for the info and details you gave during the rasa in 2013, thats what go this whole plan started for us... cheers, Percy
  15. We doing PMB to Allendale - 105kms Allendale to Ntsikeni - 100kms Ntsikeni to Glen Edward - 50kms Total of about 6000m climbing, and the experts rekon between 10 and 14 hours per day... so its gonna be tough. Weather has turned and is looking good, We will let you all know how it goes and post some pics!
  16. Happy Days!
  17. i finished 04h52, so not sure if I was with you or not. I hear there were about 5 or 6 SS on the race yesterday
  18. Nope, I will run the same ration again. the hills were a little tough, but what can one expect racing hill2hill with one gear...I actually battled more on the flats, was tough hanging onto the geared bikes on those long roads. First 2 hours our average speed was around 25kms/hr. For me the ratio was correct.
  19. Had a great day out there on the SS. was awesome doing a sub 5, after my first two were plus 8 and last year was 0625. Friesland and Mikes were easy. From bartletts and the ark was a challenge on a 32x17...
  20. whoop, whoop! Got the T shirt. What a day. It was a hell of a race on SS, so stoked I did it. Finished sub 5, 90 mins faster than last year with gears. Kudos to the guys who got me into SS, Ryanpmb and Grant Dinkel, and a big thanks to racing snake Stanton for setting the pace today to give us a sub 5. As far as I know only about 4 or 5 SS in today's race of 800 riders. Well done all SS finishers.
  21. RASA if you have the time and money, or race to Rhodes if you only 6 r 7 days.
  22. At least Sunday will be dry. Hot, and dry!
  23. I hope you have a great ride on Suunday, and dont get me wrong, h2h is one of my favourite races of all time, but I would not describe it as "proper mountainbiking" It has tar, district road and jeep track. Very little purpose built single track? Proper mountain biking would be more like the trails of Karkloof or one of the JHB/Sani2C races. my 2 cents Hill2Hill is proper tough, proper mentally shattering and proper endurance, but I would not say Proper Mountainbiking.
  24. temp for sunday has dropped a few degrees, hope it keeps coming down a bit.
  25. Yes, the 75kms. In 2012 it was about 78kms, 1660m climbing, took me about 04h35. This year I rode again, but stripped a sprocket at 20kms, so had to bail. I believe the ascent was more or less similar this year.
