  1. The point of this ride is that there are no rules really. Remember, we are in a big group, and the effects on traffic are surprising, but we are riding in Joburg on a Friday night, we are guaranteed to encounter some nutcases, so I would say you would be silly to ever ride in Joburg without a helmet, and you would be silly to ever ride in Joburg at night without some kind of light
  2. Here's the facebook group http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/18066062816/
  3. I have done it brakeless. If you cant stop when you want to, rather use brakes, for your safety and for the safety of others. It's quite a big bunch and people shift around
  4. Next ride this Friday, get there! See the facebook group page if you want to arrange pizza for the halfway stop
  5. a group of us hve been riding track bikes in the city for a while recently a lot of people have shown interest in riding in town during the day, not only fixed tho, and a gruop will be meeting at 44 Stanley on 4 March, a Sunday morning, for a ride into town also, theres critical mass last Fri of every month, all kinds of bikes but a few people ride track bikes
  6. I can get you back to Bedfordview, no problem for the bike
  7. The ride on the 27th Jan 2012 was good, great turnout, about 60+ people, we stopped halfway in the city for a drink. Was probably too long for some (about 30km) so next one will be shorter. Next ride on 24 February 2012!
  8. Good to see that there is a CM ride in all 3 major cities now. All the best!
  9. Next event this Friday 27 Jan 2012, 18h30, it's going to be big, be there!!
  10. Did a fixie ride in 2010. 3h40. The downhills SUCKEd
  11. January 2012 event facebook page http://www.facebook.com/search/results.php?q=nokuthula%20ngcobo&init=quick&tas=0.6026101636327633#!/events/228867470527502/
  12. I ride a fixie, a few others do too, most people ride MTB, but there are all sorts of bikes and every bike is welcome
  13. I've done it a few times in the last 2 weeks. The gravel is too much for a road bike, but the climb is good. I have done it on my mtb. There is a mtb ride every Saturday morning at 6-30 from Dura Cycles in Margate, I did it this Saturday, it was pretty fun, tough climbs, good singletrack
  14. Check out the first post for details of the next ride, on 27 January 2012. Bummer that the last one was a washout (although some hardy folks still threw a ride together). January 2012 ride promises to be the biggest yet...
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ez-TLSpbZc Check this out. Made my Monday morning
  16. Get to the main road from Leisure Bay, ride North towards Munster, turn off the Main Road and West at the Munster Spar. Ride along that road for a little way, then there is a weird little road that is a part sand road to the left, get on that, it eventually becomes tar, and then you ride through some farm looking areas, some twonship, taxi rank areas, and the road gets good, it must be new, and that's where the climb begins, its hard from what I remember, the cool this is you end up above the nature reserve on the Izingloweni-Port edward road, and its an awesome cruise back towards clearwater/port edward. Im planning to do it a few times. If you are going to be there, pm me.
  17. It's a group ride through Joburg at night, relaxed pace, all about fun. That last ride had about 60 people. The ride incorporates the suburbs and the city. Come to the December 2011 ride. You might get hooked like most others who try it.
  18. Southbroom-clearwater +- 30kms, all tar, Clearwater trial = +-20kms, tough coming back from the coats for half of that, so your ride will be 60kms tar and 20kms off road, 10kms of that is pretty tough.
  19. I'll be in Leisure Bay from about 19/20th Dec to end of 1st week in Jan. Plan is to wake up early, ride my singlespeed MTB to Clearwater, ride the trail, then back to Leisure Bay. Also a (long, hectic road climb) inland way from leisure Bay towards Munster and then to clearwater via Izingloweni Road, not so ure I want to do that to myself again. Can't wait to hit Clearwater, trail is good, last time i was there I ended up with an infected knee cut in hospital in Durban for 2 weeks. Cycling and bird watching are both great activities, just not at the same time...
  20. Next event this Friday, note earlier start time (18h30). It's going to be another big one!!
  21. Quite a few people took pics, guys if you have any, please post, or post a link
  22. The last ride was incredible. It's dark, a bunch of cyclists with lights flashing take up the whole road and cruise through the suburbs/city. It really was something to see. For me, and for the motorists and the pedestrians. The funniest thing - as we hit the Nelson Mandela bridge on the way out of town, a pedestrian shouts really loudly "think bike!!!". I'm not even sure what the purpose of the ride is, but that dude got it. Bottom line, whatever the purpose/cause/whatever - it's FUN
  23. It is awesome. Pace is relaxed, and we stick together through the whole ride. I didn't check the distance of the last ride, but it's probably about 20kms Last ride had at least 50 riders. I didn't count
  24. Haha, pile on the pressure! Dunkeld Cycles was well represented on Friday night's ride!
  25. The ride last night was the best yet - new route, new start/finish, and a ton of people. This keeps getting better and better. Next one is 2nd Friday in December (nobody will be around to ride on the last Friday of December), details above, get there!
