  1. Love the write up, glad you enjoyed it. And every bike needs a little admiration
  2. I'm riding my track bike which has a pretty big gear, and I'm starting in Dunkeld...We'll see how it goes on that climb, I'm dreading it
  3. Have fun in the UK, the weather has turned icy...everybody dress warmly on Friday night!
  4. 1 week to go. If you are starting in Dunkeld, make sure that you bike works, that you are ready to leave at 18h00 and that you are fit enough to get to to Braamfontein by 19h00. If you have any doubts, start at 19h00 in Braamfontein and ride the easier/shorter (but no less fun) route. Looks again like this will be the biggest one yet, lets just hope the weather doesn't become icy... After the finish in Braamfontein, some friends and I had a beer and hot dog at Great Dane in Braamfontein. It was great, so was the ride back to Dunkeld. I will be doing the same this month, join us guys!

  6. May 2012 facebook #criticalmass Joburg event http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/222904761156983/ Note start at Dunkeld at 18h00 or start at Braamfontein at 19h00 Last one was great, get there!
  7. How did it go last month?
  8. I clocked the route from Dunkeld up to the Braamfontein finish, where i was distracted by beer and hot dogs at Great Dane...a pity more riders didn't join, but it was late...interesting ride back from Braamfontein to Saxonwold at about 11pm
  9. Thanks Bonus! We seem to have finally got the flow right...
  10. Don't forget the ride tomorrow, meet to leave cnr Jan Smuts & Bompas at 18h00, or meet at the official start cnr Melle & Juta In Braamfontein at 19h00 Drinks at Maboneng precinct in town halfway through, and Kitcheners/Great Dane will be open for food & drinks at the finish
  11. So we meet at Dunkeld at 6, ride direct to Braamfontein for the 7pm start? I'll be there, with DD and Thug, anyone else welcome to join.
  12. Check this out http://wolfpackhustle.com/ Want to start a weekly Joburg night ride at a fast pace, possibly also starting at Dunkeld (probably better to start in Greenside so we can get late night pizza and beer after the ride), maybe doing about 40kms or so including the city, at speed We are trying Braamfontein out. If it doesnt work we will go back to Dunkeld. The problems with Dunkeld are eactly what Bonus has mentioned - this is about numbers, not distance or time. People who dont ride a lot (and who are not on The Hub) struggle with the ride to town from Dunkeld - add cold for the winter months and it will get very quiet. The ride from Braamies will be shorter but trust me the route is not short, and we get to see other parts of the city and surrounding areas - and we still stop for beer.
  13. As often as possible, but usually about twice a week, very early in the morning if I commute to work, and early afternoon if I commute home, about 20km each way, I make it longer if I'm in the mood
  14. To be confirmed but looks like 18h00. Danger? Thug?
  15. Where should we meet and ride from? Maybe we just ride from Dunkeld, seems like a few people from the Facebook group will be joining us too. So we leave 18h00 from Dunkeld? What do you think?
  16. Dassie, Thug and I will be riding through from the North. How many others want to join? We are leaving at 18h15 to be in Braamfontein by 7. There will be safe covered parking for at least 30 cars, at the start. Kitcheners is always open for a drink after, and Great Dane will also be open, serving hot dogs and alcohol.
  17. If its just you, me and dangerdassie we'll get there quick
  18. lets leave there at 18h15 to be safe. Right now its just me and you going from Dunkeld but if others join us it may be slower
  19. The change to Braamfontein is not permanent - we are giving it a try. The fact is that as soon as we moved from town to Dunkeld, we got triple the numbers. This may have something to do with the fact that it wasn't raining or freezing cold, but I think the start venue is a big factor. The down side with Dunkeld is that people who don't ride regularly suffer up the hills and slow everybody. And the ride is almost 30kms, and it takes an extra hour and a half. We are trying Braamfontein because it gives us easy access to the city, it wont be as physically demanding, and heading into winter, it may be a better idea to have a shorter ride. The guys at Juta have promised to sort out covered perking for about 30 cars, and then there is parking on the street in that area which is fine, I have done it a lot of times, even late at night, but you may have to pay 5 or 10 bucks to a car guard. And there is the new bar that sells hot dogs, which will be open I'm told, and Kitcheners is always open for a drink when we are done. If it sucks, we either go back to Dunkeld or to town for winter.
  20. Always better to have insurance because it eliminates the deadbeat-third-party factor. But, if a R50 per month offer is made, and you have a judgement from the SCC, you can tell the dude to shove it and send the sheriff to his house with a warrant. The sheriff will attach movable property to the value of the judgement and sell it on auction to realise your money. Debtors often lie and claim the property at their residence is not theirs, or is on HP etc but if you have a judgement and a good sheriff, this works very well, especially for smaller debts.
  21. I'm probably going to ride through to Braamfontein from Parkhurst area, if you want to join me.
  22. Not necessarily. Depends on each case. Usually between 80/20 and 70/30 favouring the party with right of way.
  23. He could counterclaim in the same case only if he is the owner of the vehicle he was driving. He could institute a separate action, and if he did, he would have to issue out of a court with jurisdiction over the place where the collision ocurred, or where you as the person being sued work or reside. If you live in CT and the collision took place in CT, he could only sue in a CT court. If the collision was in CT and you live in Jhb, he can sue either in Ct or Jhb. It would not make sense to proceed with a separate action unless his damages are over R13k. You definitely can call witnesses in SCC, but a commissioner can also allow an affidavit.ormal rules of evidence don't apply. I prefer to hear a witness because I can cross question a witness. I am sceptical of affidavits because they have been drawn by one side with the purpose of favouring one version, and I cannot put questions I have to an affidavit - so my advice is to call the witness to court if you can.
  24. I am a commissioner in the small claims court. It makes no difference if you reported the collision or not. Get 3 quotes for your damages, take them to the small claims court, and sue him for the lowest amount. The court will hear your case and decide on the merits whether he is negligent or not. The court can find him anywhere between 0% and 100% negligent, having regard to whether he was negligent, and whether your negligence may have contributed to causing the collision (were you travelling too fast/could you have taken evasive action etc), and your damages, if any, will be quantified accordingly. Be aware that he could counterclaim against you if his car was damaged.
