One of the unique things about Jozi"s critical mass ride is that most of the people that participate do not live in the inner city we ride through. Following Deon Brink's suggestion, we met with MES, an inner city based charity that has been around since the '80s. MES's website is here: http://www.mes.org.za/ We asked MES to let us know, from month to month, what it's needs are; and we will ask th... ose participating in Critical Mass to bring what they can. An excellent way that Critical Mass can give back to Jozi. Ultimately, we want more city residents to participate in Critical Mass, and with MES we want to get hold of bicycles, teach city kids to ride, and get city residents to ride aong with us, and participate in other iconic jozi cycling events, like the 94.7 For August 2012, MES needs: 195 toiletry packs (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, wash cloth, deoderant) 4 pair of takkies size 8 6 pairs of takkies size 9 6 pairs of takkies size 10 4 pairs of takkies size 11 20 pairs of socks Somehow, we need to get bicycles, about 10, that city residents (or anyone without a bike) can use to join our ride. Critical Mass will never be a sponsored event, but donating branded bicycles could be a good way for corporate involvement. Anyone with ideas or suggestions, please inbox me. Critical Mass is big.
