I know it's in our summer when he's training at home so would be when helluva ask. behind the WvA and MVDP there's always a race to see who is the third best out there

I think there's rough and smooth here. He was an incredible story, but (like most of the MTNQ unearthed talents) never kicked on after making it into the pro ranks. He has come from very little, and worked bloody hard to get where he is. What he does post pro cycling is up to him. He did after all, make it to the Olympics. Which is more than most, and I guess a good tag line for this role. Whether he deserved to be there on race merit is a debate that will never be settled.

Totally agree. I cycle around the neighbourhood doing errands too so often end up swapping turns with commuters while i'm in my plakkies. met an oke the other day who cycles masi2pinelands return every day. calves of steel. The disconnect for me is that a RND number of cyclists are complete prick road users. So ALL cyclists are lumped in with this group. If we run the same thinking that a RND number of vehicle drivers are complete prick road users, why can't we lump all vehicle drivers into this group? Because, trust me, the high and might holier than thou vehicle drivers are either terrible vehicle drivers themselves or like to complain about them.

potayto potarto, the fact that there's a term for being "Doored" means it happens. There's a huge number of cyclists on the road everyday, passing close to parked cars all the time - most of the time without incident. So yes, you can name a few anecdotal incidents but it remains quite rare in the grand scheme of things.

People don't realise how rare getting doored is. We're only talking about this one because it ended in a fatality. In this case, the cyclists didn't even avoid the door in the end either. You can definitely have your spidey sense around looking into cars when you're in a confined road and always knowing if there are any vehicles behind you incase you need to swerve out. Experience and good techniques will help prevent these things a little bit. but not as much as drivers not opening their doors into oncoming traffic

I followed up and asked the original poster of this video. This was his reply: We started taking a video due to them not riding in single file as seen in the above post and the one guy saw this and decided to get aggressive he got mad due to us recording. A bit of an overreaction unfortunately Can't really add much more to that, I find it hard to believe that was all that happened. Personally I've never flipped the bird at any motorists while cycling, nor have I had a cyclist pull one at me.

@Dexter-morgan in my (totally unsolicited) opinion, don't put training wheels on a bike for kids to learn properly. You don't learnt to walk with crutches, you just go for it and fall down a bit along the way.
