  1. shot for finding tracking page. so just the four people, and looks like Lance only left at midnight anyway! the loop through cape town is a bit odd, some potential issues with silvermine at night/after gate hours.
  2. Was not aware of that
  3. You guys are so flippen negative. Is it not obvious that this is an anti-event event? Epic costs R60k for all the frills you don't need. Someone takes away all the frills and charges less than the cost of a new set of tyres and people want it for free? It takes money, skill, effort and TIME to setup a route like this. Do the promos and media and host the tracking (there's my one grip Ray, where is the tracking?!!). This is definitely worth R2k, some people are flippen clueless with maps and routes and a good gpx is worth that. These events put you together in a race format, for all the people who say you can just go do this by yourself, well then go do just that. I'm superkeen to do one of these, so maybe I'm the target marketed kool aid drinker. but hey if you want a gpx, here's an excellent one with accom options worked out, mahala https://bicyclesouth.co.za/2022/08/flora-fauna-merryweather-tour/
  4. It's happening so let's get a thread for it by itself. https://gravel-burn.com/ A little birdie told me the entry fee, will see if that is confirmed at the "firestarter" info session tonight. Top team involved, this will be a quality event.
  5. I think it's R2k. Which is awesome
  6. anyone lined up for this?
  7. I do agree with you here, I think the entries are only open for about 48 hours before the lottery closes. I almost missed it too but the club whatsapp group was full of posts - I got in. However, like all things that don't weigh up the supply and demand variables, many people enter before they even know they are actually going to run. *plenty will not even get past the point of paying for the entry by end of november *plenty will not do a qualifying marathon *plenty will have this thing called life getting in the way The door is not shut! I had a little fight with CT marathon about them closing subs miles ahead of the event. I suppose if you build a successful event you might think you have earned the right to be a chop about it.
  8. What? You give up way too easily! I got a TOM entry about a month before through subs, and plenty were available. The door is definitely not closed, complete a qualifying marathon and you'll be just fine. (Entered myself, no response yet on email)
  9. Really? I thought they did a pretty good job and it was the UCI who chose not to come back
  10. but you can buy his bike! https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/road-bikes/709529/de-rosa-merak-ctct-2024-winner?referrer=homepage i assume it is this one!
  11. For the first time ever, i actually beat the system in cycling betting. The odds were heavily stacked in TP's stable. I had a look at the course and went for a few real flyers who could pull off a surprise. The odds are normally hugely in favour of the house, as cycling is really unpredictable.
  12. just for sh!ts and giggles, it would be really interesting to see what the Argus winning time could be if it were a WT1.0 race. Over 10 years ago now, but this could well still be the fastest WT stage ever. panflat in Qatar for just 135km....Boonen wins it at 56.8km/h https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/tour-of-qatar/2014/stage-4 Obvs the argus has some little lumps, but that speed it enough for a sub2. The Argus this year saw a conti road rider beating out two mtbers, at 43km/h for the 109km.
  13. um, yes and no. winning Giro, Tour and WC in one year is crazy; hence is only the third person to pull it off. BUT one crash in spain taking out all his rivals made the middle and most important one a lot more achievable. yes, it's still an incredible season. not sure how much this factor compares to previous seasons that maybe hasn't been looked at much. he took a full 5 months off racing between the seasons, and a full 2months after the TdF.
  14. @SwissVan just bookmark this page and go here directly https://forum.bikehub.co.za
  15. So where does the overlord of pansies find a place with minimal moderation (no tjooning Steve Hofmeyer if you wouldn't say it to his face) for good scraps now? Send us a link or just mansplain it like in the good old days. Seriously though, I am on a sailing forum called "sailing anarchy". It's US based and wild, as the name would suggest. The only two rules are no pedo talk and no outing people (doxxing i think it's called), there is basically zero moderation and you can tell someone to go F himself (or his mom). There is some incredible content, some very experienced people with world class knowledge, skills and analysis. BUT you need to weed through the noise, there is just so much noise and so much wasted content that gets hijacked by two adults arguing on the internet. Currently it's awesome because the AC is on, quite a few insiders and those with requisite knowledge that add so much to what you can get from the sport. Trust me this place is better.
  16. Yes still open, going there for new years! Probably busy planting ceders
  17. Junior tyres! What we have here is mostly crap. Asked this a while back, and the answer seemingly was to just get some decent rubber from bike24.de, the schwalbes have been great! Thinking this might still be the case, for instance rush sports don't bring in any of the junior maxxis range, but then you can't ship the sizes you do want directly from https://www.bike24.com/search-result?searchTerm=tyre+24&attributesWithKeyValue.wheelSize=24"+(507mm) another option is to go spez, looks like they might have this in stellenbosch. https://www.specialized.com/za/en/shop/cycling-gear/bike-parts/bike-tyres?size=24+x+2.1&size=24+x+2.125&size=24+x+2.2&page=1 Am i missing something, does any shop online or brick and mortar have decent 24" tyres available? What do all the "spur series" junior kids use? Without going too far down the mine, i did find Olympics has some sort of range
  18. There's a definite chance does Pog dicing with national teammate Rog or trade teammate Hirschi! spare a thought for old Patrick who held the Witikon KOM for almost a decade. He's out the top20 already and will be on page 10 before the weekend is over https://www.strava.com/activities/380812958#73830456019
  19. Indeed, the entire thing is in the 021 dialing code area, Might as well get Gordo HL on board and rename it the Absa Cape Town Epic. I'm sure if you've come from a land faraway it might not seem that different, but expect the race villages to be rather empty. The DIY VIP option is achievable, book a nice guesthouse in Brackenfell (or anywhere on the tong side of the worsgordyn) and rent a car/uber between stage moves. Plenty of people might even sleep at home half the week, the most untamed part of that experience will be getting your bibs off the washing line. I can see some locals being very disappointed, as well as the boland dorpies who all miss out this time. I don't quite get the HOT aspect of this, it's always hot in the boland, the durbanville vibe is not as bad.
  20. We will!
  21. Weird question (or maybe not). Any reason why you wouldn't you put a 24" wheel in a 26" shock? Thinking is to get some squishy front end on a 24" bike, when it comes to upgrade time in a few years the 24" rigid shock goes back on and the nice 26" shock moves with you. I would be doing disc brakes, so the Vbrake issue shouldn't be a problem but am guessing the geometry would be slacker unless there are spacer/sag options to drop it. https://www.mtbr.com/threads/anyone-try-26-fork-running-24-wheel-with-brake-post-extenders.1052402/ https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/26-fork-on-24-wheeled-bike-advice-please/
  22. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DALKvX5uZs7/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link meanwhile in heidi land.
  23. Good point, you nailed the colours to the mast. I wonder if there is a Lance/Oprah thread that survived the crash, that would be interesting reading now?! I will fully admit to drinking the Kool-aid during the peak Lance days, but going through the Tyler Hamilton book (The Secret Race) was the tipping point for me. I'm pretty sure I read a pirated copy, which was a tip from here. The tagline was, "he lied and cheated all this time, so don't feel too bad breaking copyright laws".
  24. wait what how does that work? Company buys an entry, fights accom etc and the runner gets injured so they find someone else to fill the slot? and this is next weekend? geniedit
  25. Chop. so we have "Shooter McGavin" and "Maverick Goose". Watch out for Marty MacFly, Ron Swanson and Austin Powers amongst others in the future. Jokes aside, he might just choose a dumb movie character name as his next handle.
