I could build an SRAM X0 2 x 10 with AM Classic 29er wheels and Reba XX forks (or similar with XT 3 x 10 etc) for under R30,000 An SRAM XX 2 x 10 build would be around R37000 2 year warrantee.

Hi Kranswurm, You can get 120mm, 140mm travel Reba RLT's with 20mm through axels, tapered steerers etc There are also 29er DH forks from Manitou (Dorado) White Bros etc.

Hi Kranswurm, If you look at the specs page in the results of that test the Scandal was lighter than the Niner and cheaper. The Scandal was also What Mountain Bikes HT 29er of the year. The Fork that the KHS was using is the RST M29er in the post above.

It Will be interesting to see how Emma Batty goes switching to 29ers this year...

Hi Christie, I don't think you have been on our site lately? We have 26 HT frames good enough to race competitively for R850 each! We also have FS XC 26er frames (sold out and more coming) for R6500. Let alone our range of steel 26er AM frames. I don't believe any one bike type is perfect for every discipline but 29ers do have a lot going for them.

Yeap, the German MTB Fed only allowed 29ers to start racing not so long ago. I think there's still some shiznik happening in Belgium trying to ban cyclo cross bikes from XC racing, haven't heard much about that lately though.

Since these articles were written the 2010 US Short and Long Course XC Pro Champs (Specialized FS 29er), Trans Alps (Bulls carbon 29er HT) and a host of other events like the Trans Rockies (Kona Hei Hei 29er and Big Kahuna29er HT) have all been won on 29ers. Conrad ran the FS 29er all the time from the moment the carbon came along, before that he seemed to train on the alloy29er but race a carbon 26er FS. The results sheet is what matters. Suasser has tested the 29er on many occasions and if you look at the videos on the Specialized site you will often see a 29er in his pit but he prefers the FS 26er I ride a 29er, either SS, FS or HT but I also ride a 26er long travel HT and an XC 26er HT and will have a FS 26er XC on hand later in the year.

Hi Yeboabe, The Kona goes well. I just had my heavy duty training wheels on rather than the race jobs but it still was loads of fun. Tons of traction, makes mincemeat of the rough stuff - you really are hauling before the warning light comes on in your head!

Our Plan 'B' 29ers: Two sample 18" frames just finished in the paint shop, should fly out in the next couple of days. In the works: Can't say just yet but it will be worth the wait!!!

Hi Velo, We will have 20" frames in the next run of Java HT frames as well as in the Mosso XC full susser 26ers. Lots of very cool things underway!!!
