  1. I'd say phone Probike. My mate had a issue with the shock from his Spark and it had to be sent to the distributer, Probike, to have it repaired. Well that's what the shop told him. Otherwise maybe try Greg Minnaar racing in Pmb, they service just about any suspension fork and shock type.
  2. Forgot to mention that it's a 2008 model but it should not happen. I'm also a light guy, 70kg so not that I'm over stressing the thing. Oh well, will see what I can do.
  3. Hi there. Just been for a couple of laps on the Cascades XC world cup track and having a blast. Now I'm home, washed the bike and find that the horst link is broken straight through the middle on the weld. Now it's a Specialized FSR XC Expert. Would anyone know if you can buy just that part before I start phoning up bike shops or should I just get hold of my insurance company and try get paid out for the bike. I could also try weld it but I don't think it will be as strong as what it's meant to be. I really like the bike. Suggestions or anyone had experience with buying frame/suspension parts like this for a Specialized. Thanks
  4. Can anyone tell me if it's this weekend and who is doing it? Heard it's at the track in Chase valley. Never ridden there before so a bit nervous of what to expect.
  5. I imported a set from the UK some time back cause I could not find any here. Spoke to the importer, think it was Probike and they said they don't import that size, only the downhill sizes. Then I was as Greg Minnaar Racing in Pmb a few weeks back and they had some 2.1's in stock. Did not check if they were tubeless though. High roller 2.1 has not nearly got as much volume as say a crossmark 2.1. They look more like 1.95. So they are a bit less forgiving over the bumps but still rolls very nicely and corners unbelievably well. So if you don't come right give Greg's shop a ring.
  6. I'm also in the same boat as most guys here. Been riding XC trails and doing some races for a few years but only got into downhill this year. Started on a real cheapie but got myself a Specialized Big Hit 3 which I'm really happy with. Really motivated to get my downhill riding skills up. Have not entered a race yet but thinking of doing the 3rd round of the KZN series. Really nervous to go do it but should be fun.
  7. I would not like to jump on a tandem with mechanical disc brakes. Hydraulic disks will always be better. If there is more heat build up it just means your brakes are working better. To stop excessive heat build up you just get bigger discs. As far as I know the Magura Gustav M brakes are the only brakes that say you can use them on a tandem. I might be wrong but thats what I read a while ago. Oh they also stopped making the Gustav M's now. Heavy brake but they are super strong. Got one on the front of my downhill bike and it's a awesome brake.
  8. I've got a mate selling his Scott Spark 30 frame if you decide on the Scott. It's a medium and think it's '09. He's just bought a Scott Scale RC frame. He's got his long travel full sus so is going the hardtail route for the other bike.
  9. Ja, it's a matte black finish. I must say it looks very nice. Just one or two minor things to sort out like the rear rim. My newly built wheel sits off centre. Fished around on the net and looks like these bike need the rim offset 6mm away from the drive side. Will get that sorted, no problem. The bike rides and handles so good. Have not ripped down the downhill course yet, ran out of time this weekend. Just bombed down into Giba Gorge on some of the trials but will be hitting Cascades PMB this coming weekend to give it a real run. Very, very happy with this bike.
  10. Here is my freshly built Specialized Big Hit 3 2007 Marzocchi 888 RCV Fox DHX3 rear shock 200mm Tavel front and rear Magura brakes, Gustav M up front and Louise(I think) in the rear with 203mm discs front and back SDG I beam saddle and seat post Truvativ Box guide chain guide Pro Atherton Star Series 740mm bars Truvativ Hussefelt stem XT cranks with 36T Blackspire downhill chainring and LX rear derailer Sram PG 970 Downhill Cassette and Sram chain Mavic 321 rear rim with Sun Ringle Lawhill hub Front wheel, not so sure Gonna go riding right now!!
  11. I ordered 24 instead of 26 inch tubes a while back from CRC. They are Nokian Gazzalodi. They fit 2.1 - 3.0 tyres, 1.5mm thick and Schrader valve. Brand new of course. R 100 for both, what they cost me. I'm in Hillcrest, Durban. Thanks Pierre
  12. I recently bought a set of slx rings for my mates raceface evolve cranks. Both are 104 mm. The granny and big ring fit perfectly but the middle ring has a plastic moulded piece on it that seems to help the chain up from granny gear to the middle ring. If you look at the chainring the plastic piece is also on the most inner piece of the ring where the bolts fit. I had to file some of that plastic away and then it fitted fine. You don't interfere with the working of the plastic piece at all. Not sure if the xt rings are the same though.
  13. Thanks guys. Forks are serviced and running smoothly. Just need a bit of fine tuning.
  14. Nigel's gopro battery died at the top of the run. Big bummer. I'm sure he will get a video up soon.
  15. I had the pleasure of doing a couple of runs down the full world cup course on Sunday with Nigel Hicks and a couple of the local Pmb guys. I'm new to the dh scene so found some sections very hairy especially the top but all very very good. Will be seeing a lot more of me there. Very good job done there by Nigel and his crew. Can't wait to see the wc guys go down there.
  16. I managed to find specs on 2005 on the site the other day but was not sure if it's same as 2004.
  17. Howzit. Anybody got the specs on oil weight and quantity for 2004 boxxer race forks. Thanks.
  18. Can anybody give me the specs like oil weight and quantity in each leg for my 2004 boxxer race forks. Thanks
  19. No they don't and I can't ride the bike like that. Kinda desperate.
  20. I need a tall upper crown for my 2004 boxxer's please. Hoping someone has one lying around to sell or swop for my regular crown. Thanks
  21. I would also go for the bike with the less complicated rear shock. I reckon the santa cruz butcher.
  22. I've got a Truativ box guide chain guide/tensioner that I'm battling to get to fit correctly on my DH bike. If it does not work I'll let you know and you can buy it from me.
  23. Hi there. I am in desperate need of a 135mm 12mm 36 spoke rear hub or complete rear wheel. Even a 10mm through axle I can make work.
  24. Thanks for the info. About to order some bits and pieces this week to finish the bike. Thanks again.
  25. Thanks for that.
